Chrono Trigger was a no-holds-barred, swashbuckling adventure that was a lot of fun to work on... If the demand is great enough, it's certainly possible. But as a creator, I feel the need to create new titles and not just series installments and remakes. I realize it's a little strange for me to be saying that in an interview about Final Fantasy IV (laughs). But I need to remind myself of that, too.

There have been countless 'Possible Chrono Trigger remake?' stories. I'll be interested when I hear it confirmed until then, meh.
"If the demand is great enough"?
Very few games I can think of that have a higher remake demand than Chrono Trigger.

Agreed! Really hope they do consider it, whether as a fully-blown console release or a quicker-development with the DS.

If, the demand has always been there
. Why not just release the original on VC and see the demand for that and use that as a indicator..

if it does get released on the vc, I think a remake will have even less of a chance. Would you buy it 2 times? I know I wouldn't.

but if they did do this it would be sweet
I've been disappointed by these stories before, though.

I get the sense, reading all these developer comments, that developers have no idea how popular games like Chrono Trigger are, and how well they would sell if they were remade. They seem to get their date from sales records from the game's original release, or sales of remakes. They don't take into account the fact that makes Chrono Trigger fans never purchased remakes or sequels, either because they owned a N64 instead of a PS1, because they still had a SNES, etc.
Developers need to pay more attention to forums on the internet, where it is more than apparent that there are tens of thousands, probably millions of Chrono Trigger fans already desperate to see a remake of the game, never mind the new fans that will jump on board once they play it for the first time. Also, how cool would it be if the remake sold well enough to encourage SE to make a few more Chrono Trigger sequels?
Developers should make new games, and they do, but they should also give the consumer what they want. Remakes have their place in the market as well.
