Tales of Innocence, Bandai Namco, RPG, Japan Only Recent News
Bandai Namco's Hideo Baba-san has exclusively confirmed to Cubed3 that Tales of Innocence will not be coming to the US or Europe. Speaking in an interview that will be published later this week on Cubed3 about Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, the Tales Brand Manager stated that despite fans being eager to get their hands on the fantastic DS RPG, "I'm sorry to say that there are currently no plans at this point."
So unless Nintendo sees fit to eventually strike up a deal late in the day, as it did with the much delayed release of Tales of Phantasia on the Game Boy Advance, chances are we will not be getting our hands on one of the best Tales RPGs in the long-running series.
Be sure to stick around for the full interview in the next couple of days...

Dang, luckily it's a quick fix by importing, but still. They really should realise that there's quite a big fanbase for the series over here!

Nah, it's been confirmed that the ToS sequel will be released here (for obvious reason).

Namco must stand for *idiot decisions* or something when translated.
Tales of Vesperia for the X360 for example is about the worse decision they could make for the franchise, when interviewed at np they'll say Symphonia still sells more than abyss and it's the biggest selling Tales game outside japan by far, blablabla. But all in reality, in the same month they go to another magazine saying that it is:
- by a secondary team
- most people in that team are new to tales
- poketales of symphonia, using copy, pasted Abyss monsters.
- ToS character designer wasn't available for ToS2, as they said on NP, but he was for Vesperia
- Vesperia will have a lot more FMV's
- Vesperia to define tales for the years to come
And what about ToS2? a game who could be done on GC, that puts the same towns the way they were modeled and textured 5 years ago changing only the wheater they're in. A stupid cash-in no less, and wow, nintendo got spit in the face again.
Way to go Namco, I wish I could boycott their games now. This crap has to stop.
If there's no resources for Innocence, Namco should make way for it, it's not like the poor guys are doing us a big service since forever, quite the contrary.

Likely because 360 is affordable, popular, and seems to be the real leader for multiplatform series' evolution. Namco Tales won't bring it to Wii because they can't do what they want with the FMV & visuals, and they won't bring it to PS3 because it may not sell enough.
That being said, for a series that lives on the Japanese market, a 360 exclusive is a very strange idea. :/

This is the most disapointing thin I have ever heard on this site. I really like the Tales games and I can't believe that this isn't coming out in europe or America. AHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRAAAAAGGGGG

Namco were just paid, A LOT, by Microsoft to screw us over. I mean, they'd have to pay for a port, let alone the real thing.
Namco can do whatever they want, but us getting the worser game... they're kidding us. I hope Vesperia flops HARD.
About to board my plane. Merry Christmas everyone!

Why do you hope it flops? I hope it does well! The Tales series will NEVER be main to Nintendo, since last gen there were 3 on PS2 & 1 on GC. Personally I'm happy, because I have a 360, and in the west at least, the game will reach a lot more people than it would have done, had it been on PS3, 'cos if it has been PS3 exclusive, I likely would have never been able to play it!

Why? basically because it's the game we should be getting instead of a sequel to a game that doesn't need one in order to recycle 5 year old assets. Not only that, but a sequel given to a nobody's team that didn't work on tales previously; who are we kidding? 90% of Team Symphonia (90 of the 100% that did Symphonia) are on the X360, ours? it's scraps, scraps that Namco knows that could sell better than Vesperia, but still we get the crappy spin-off and they get the real thing.
Our console is leading and we get a low tier game? their console doesn't sell in Japan and their RPG's flopped and they get main installments? with Tales series in particular we deserved way more. Way more than X360 (hadn't they paid large sums for such exclusive.( Edited 11.04.2008 16:32 by raidzero )

I don't think I'm alone in saying that this news is baffling. When paired with the effort they're clearly diverting from the more popular Wii title to put into the Xbox title, it almost feels like Namco is just trying to commit business suicide?
How much does it actually cost to localize a ds rpg? Could they possibly lose money on it? Does the DS market have too many action RPGs?
Maybe Vespera was a decision made back when the 360 looked like it might win by a wide margin, and they're just having to follow through with it now. Maybe they just wanted to make a bold move. But not bringing what looks like the best new rpg for the DS in japan, a game that got stellar ratings from Famitsu -- I'm totally stumped. What's going on here?

I'm boycotting Vesperia though.

If the project started that long ago... they'd have loads of time to make it multiplatform, a PS3 game or even a Wii game.
The reason it's staying X360 is obvious, Microsoft paid a large sum for it. It might still be ported in the future too, but it's still disrespectful for us; and of course even if it is we, on the Wii won't be getting it, since developers seem to love to try and make us believe that a game with "ok" graphics is not possible on the Wii, despite not looking that much better at all than Wind Waker did all these years ago.
And indeed, with decreasing Japanese sales over the years for the series... putting it on X360 is exactly where I would go to ruin the franchise's popularity. It's disrespectful for the userbase too, we're not their pawns to be sold to Microsoft.

Microsoft tried to get Final Fantasy...it was given FFXI. It tried to get Dragon Quest, the DS beat it to the punch. So the next choice? Well, Tales is the third biggest long-term RPG franchise and it seems Bandai Namco was more than willing to accept the big fat pay cheque.
And the sad thing is how the DS is getting completely overlooked in the West. Bandai Namco isn't bringing over Our Videogame Exams, Drum Master or Game Centre CX either. In fact, the company doesn't have much support for the DS in the West
