A summary of the first day presentation events from the Nintendo Media Summit. Including Wii Fit, Mario Super Sluggers and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.


Wii Fit


  • Nintendo's answer for hardcore gamers looking for a unique game to
  • Bringing together casual and core gamers.
  • View week to week weight gain/loss data up to a year long.
  • Logs play time for various different activities and mini-games.
  • Tutorials and assistance to get into exercises.

  • WiiWare


  • A chance for new talent to work on smaller applications for Wii.
  • Existing larger studios to try something different with little investment.

  • Mario Super Sluggers


  • Pull back the Wii-remote to pitch, then toss – twist for a spin.
  • Shake to run/throw.
  • A+B for special pitching.
  • Wario, Shyguy, Hammer Bros, Birdo and Baby Luigi confirmed.

  • Boom Blox


  • Uses realistic physics system, 400 levels.
  • Fully customisable level editor/designer.

  • Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time


  • Treasure town – key area with shops, bank, center etc.
  • Players wake up on a beach with no memory who they are and how they arrived.
  • 490 different Pokemon to find and use.
  • Thieves try to steal goods at the beginning of the game, long/epic storyline with multiple paths.
  • Randomly generated dungeons, always different and exciting.
  • Varied attacks, special moves and unique abilities – 4 moves at any given time.
  • Trainers need to get Pokemon out of the dungeon to allow them to join the team.
  • Email account registering for rescue requests over Nintendo Wi-Fi connection.
  • 50-60 questions, but with specific set used.

  • Various other announcements have been embargoed till a later date.

    The Media Summit is a 2 day event taking place from 10th to 11th April 2008. Various WiiWare and Wii projects are said to be shown, as well as DS support and key games from third parties.

    Boom Blox looks good. I was shocked to see something good emerging from a big name and a company instead of the usual "prominent-guy-no-one-cares-about plays:--- (insert boring game here)". Physics are really very good!

    And what is Mario Super Sluggers? poking slugs until they burp? *looks puzzled*

    Mario Super Sluggers == Baseball game.
