Mario Kart Leads UK Charts Again

By Jorge Ba-oh 22.04.2008 10

The top 40 charts for the week ending Friday 18th April reveals Mario Kart Wii still in pole position.

The karting extravaganza sat firmly at number 1 after a healthy week of strong sales and increased promotion. The porky plumber and spiky chum's sporting antics, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, came in a close second, despite being in the market for some time now.

Dr Kawashima's Brain Training slipped back into the top 10 in 9th, whilst mini-game feasts Wii Play and Carnival: Funfair Games just missed the boat in at 11th and 12th.

1) Mario Kart Wii (Wii)
2) Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii, DS)
3) Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (PS3)
4) Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PC, DS, PSP)
5) SEGA Superstars Tennis (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, DS)
6) Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (Xbox 360, PS3)
7) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Xbox 360, PS3, PC, DS)
8) UEFA Euro 2008 Xbox 360, PC, PS3, PS2, PSP)
9) Dr Kawashima's Brain Training (DS)
10) Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PC, DS)

26 Wii and DS titles made the Top 40 chart last week. The full chart can be found over at Chart Track.

Sad to see M+S at 2nd.... To be honest there aren\'t really any killers there (ignoring CoD4). GTA IV will certainly take the top position next week though.

Great job Mario Kart, can't believe Mario and Sonic is doing so well, the Wii version ain't much good.

The biggest surprise for me is that Brain Training is somehow still in the top 10! Smilie

I never doubted Mario & Sonic doing well. It\'s not a bad game, it just could have been better.

Brawl will probably sell like shit because of Nintendo\'s localization idiocy. It had potential to outsell Halo 3 I reckon.

I don't see why Brawl sales will be too affected. The people who are desperate for Brawl will get it in the first week just as before, and just as with Melee, it will stay consistent with the rest of the pack picking it up as the years go by. Unless it ends up delayed by six years, I don't think a few months will have a noticeable impact.

The ones who desperately want it already have it. With Melee, the GC was only out for 2 months in EU before it came out, but the Wii is already out everywhere, the wait will seem much bigger.

And hype has died down so much it's amazing. The Freeloader may have helped with this, but people would just stop bothering. No more Smash Bros updates. The hype is almost completely gone and we still won't have it for another 2-3 months.

god uk we do buy some shit ^^;

JB, I wish you'd post the games-by-format chart (i.e. the one that shows how well each version of each game sold). Wii games comprise 7 of that top 10, with 2 DS games (if I remember correctly).

That chart also reveals that the positions of SEGA Superstars Tennis and Pro Evo 2008 are largely due to the Wii versions (and you haven't even listed Wii in the formats for Pro Evo).

When games with the same name differ as much across formats as they do it makes little sense having a chart like this (seriously, how can DS, Wii and 360/PS3 versions count as the same game).

"This man has advanced communist views ... He dresses in a bohemian fashion both at his office and in his leisure hours."

I agree with Pro Evo - that is a mistake, but about the single format thing, Cubed3 can only work from the information available from Chart Track. If you want the UK chart by individual format, check C4 teletext on a weekend.

But I am glad to see a return of the UK chart on C3, although I miss the big out-of-date pie chart Smilie
