New Alone In The Dark Wii Footage and Information

In an interview with IGN, the producer states that the Wii version of the series isn't a mere port of the PS2 version, but an adaptation of the 360/PS3 game.
It is also said that content between the two is functionally similar, whilst keeping to the Hardware limitations of the Wii.
The clip below shows the game as having a strong resemblance to Resident Evil 4, in both looks and perspective.
Alone is the Dark is slated for a June release in Europe.
At the beginning, the original design for the game was the same for all platforms, but was then adapted in order to maximise the potential and the unique features of each platform. Personally, I feel that Hydravision, who were in charge of developing the Wii and PS2 versions, did a particularly great job on the Wii.
The Wii version is more of an adaptation of the next gen versions rather than a direct port. In this sense, the controls are all unique to Alone in the Dark and lead to great immersive gameplay.

Yes, the content will function identically on the Wii as we felt it was key to keep all the next gen features on the Wii. However, the original game design was more tailored towards next gen consoles which are more powerful and have a lot more memory. This is why we consider the Wii version of the game as an adaptation because we adapted the features in order to make them work. A good example is the fire, which propagates dynamically in real time in the next gen games but, unfortunately, is technically impossible to achieve on the Wii. In order to keep this feature, we included fire which gives the impression of propagating dynamically, but in fact propagates in a scripted manner. As in the next gen game, the fire can be used according to its real world properties, such as setting fire to a chair or creating a lethal flamethrower.

none"which propagates dynamically in real time in the next gen games but, unfortunately, is technically impossible to achieve on the Wii"
umm....why?
That task would be no harder then the liquid simulation in MarioSunshine.
(where you can spray around the water on floors, walls ect).
A simerla thing is done in "de Blob" too.
If you have some vertical addative flame sprites coming upwards instead of water/paint.
You set the "water" to expand along the surface (which in this case is a surface marker for the flames)
You then look for objects near the flames (simple radius measurement), and set them on fire too if they have a flamability tag set.
This really, really isnt beyond the wii, and would be far better then scrippted alternatives.
2D Zelda games have had fire spreading before and it looked excelent. While its harder in 3d, it isnt THAT much harder.
Id even say the PS2 is able to handel this non-scriped method of fire spreading.

Err..excuse me for sounding rude but do you even know what the hell you are talking about?.
Your comparison of Mario Sunshines water effects to the real-time propagation of fire in next gen games like this and others is completely nonsensical. The water does not even remain visible in Sunshine for fuck sake
It's not about recreating cool looking effects to simply add visual quality, but instead getting elements to react in a naturalistic manner that the game requires for realism effecting gameplay. Real-time fire effects react to the subtle environmental changes within the 3D engine. The fire models will also react in a realistic manner depending on the physical qualities of the objects in question, and also to how players choose manipulate them. All within real-time.
There is no way in hell that the Wii could do real time propagation of fire, especially to the degree that the other versions of this game will have and require as a fundamental gameplay mechanic.
It is impossible like the guys says. It require processing power way beyond the Wii's capability.

noneWe do not know how hard fire is to achieve in the boundaries of their engine, so I don't want to give any comment. I believe them. Why should they lie?
I think scenes in the trailer of jeuxfrance look good, shame I don't speakt French.
The controls are unique, but I accept them and look forward to experience them in the game itself. It looks quite good. There may be glitches in texture, but it seems, that all the key elements, scripted events and background-action are there. Just behold the skyscaper crushing down at the end. Is that even Wii?
I can't say anything about texture and detail, as the trailer is very low quality and the screen showing the game very small.
The game looks good. I wonder what differences there are in detail between buttonmashing consoles and Wii...
same here!

Yeah, why would they lie (lol). I do agree
Blame the PS2, it's like the Wii's ball & chain in some cases. Seriously, I think it's mainly down to Atari not having that much money to throw around right now, certainly on a Wii project. Not entirely sure but it's one of their first of this calibre on Wii. I think it looks great it may not be of the high standard elsewhere but this Wii version looks like it has great attributes of it's own.

supersoniclooks great and it should be really good for the Wii. The controls maybe a little different for the Wii than for the PS3 version, but it still has high hopes of being a good success with other fans.

noneIt was said in an interview that the Wii version is the "lead" version between the Wii and the PS2 and that the textures are taken from the PS3/360 version and changed for Wii and then from Wii to PS2.
