Valve Seeking Wii Project for Kids

By Jorge Ba-oh 02.05.2008 15

Valve's Doug Lombardi recently spoke on the company's interest in developing a children's game on the Wii.

The company, well known for its gorgeous first-person shooters and the innovative puzzler, Portal, recently spoke to CVG expressing positive prospects for a future Wii project.

There's a lot of people at Valve who are parents and would love to make a game for kids. We all play the Wii a lot and we think that the proper way for Valve to approach the Wii would be to make something cool designed specifically for it.

That said, the company have yet to announce any games for the system, but have expressed "a lot of desire to do something for kids, do something on the Wii."

Should Valve be bringing a game tailored to kids for the system, or would something they're more well known for be a better option?

Thanks to C3 reader Linkyshinks for the tip.

Arent all Wii games for Kids? sorry, had to be said...

No Longer Temporarily Banned.

As long as its good who cares

I think kids is the wrong word for them to use, but who cares this is Valve and they make great games.

what do they mean exactly when they say kids? I presume that means no fps or portal spin-off? pity at least were getting something from valve which will HAVE to be good

Wii is so misunderstood Smilie

If Wii was a person it would be fed up of being patronised by all around it.

Ok, i like Valve, but COME ON!!! GIVE US A GOOD GAME THAT ISN"T AIMED AT KIDS JUST BECAUSE IT'S THE Wii!!! (caps lock was definitly needed, no argument.)

i love to hav a wii game from them

I suppose Boom Blox could be considered for kids, but it's deep and looking good. If Valve can do the same I would be happy.

As long as it's a kid game with depth who cares? I love a good Pixar movie or Studio Ghibli film, they're all for kids too, but they're amazing. When a kid product is made well adults can play it too.

Bad communication. Never call something a kids game. Just like you never call something a girls product. If you do, boys won't buy it.
Now grown-ups have already dismissed the game before they even know what it is.

Amen. I guess.

Just like that Square guy on Final Fantasy: Brain Training though, some companies just have the complete wrong view of Nintendo, and while I blame them, I also can't blame them, because Nintendo have set up this image of themselves.

It's not like the people who'd buy it in 2 years time read interviews on CVG.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

WiiFit is the most most adult orientated product out at the minute, much more so than any FPS or GTA4. It's funny that people think otherwise because it doesn't have an 18/adult rating, whereas those shooters that do actually appeal to young boys. I don't know many older adults that would think running around assaulting people and shooting them is fun.

Ah.... and just when I thought we were going to see something from Valve.

Oh damn...stupid mini-games selling well. Now look, Valve won't take it seriously.
