New Prince of Persia DS Info, Wii Version Still Possible

Ubisoft speak more on the DS version of the new Prince of Persia title, and mentions the likelihood of a Wii Version.

Speaking to UK magazine Edge, Ubisoft's Ben Mattes, producer of The Two Thrones and its ports, talks of how the idea of a possible Wii version is being treated 'very seriously'.

The game ships on PS3, 360 and PC later this year, but a complementary DS title is also in the works. 'It's connected to the game in a very interesting way, but it's not a port. A complementary experience, shall we say?' And the prospect of a Wii Version? 'We ported Two Thrones to the Wii. It was a quick and dirty port, i can say. With that we saw a lot of potential. The controls were not fully optimised, did not take full advantage of the Wii, but a lot of people saw the POP universe could certainly have a home on Wii. Since then people have been looking into that, but there's no formal announcement. We are investigating it very seriously. You would never see a port of the game we're making however. That'll never, never happen.'

The DS title is expected to release later in the year.

    Echoes will be happy. But...

We ported Two Thrones to the Wii. It was a quick and dirty port, i can say.

    Those total utter bastards.

You would never see a port of the game we’re making however. That'll never, never happen.

Wow that was blunt. I guess Ubisoft hate Nintendo afterall. Stop making crap like PoP and make moar Animalz games please.

So they\'ll make a proper PoP for the Wii instead of a port wont they?

Ubisoft is a company that I've come to despise. Their Wii and Ds support is nothing but shovelware to finance their big budget titles. I hope their strategy backfires on them. I can not wait to see that happen.

Hopefully, which would definitely be a step up, but just the way they said it...

I mean it's not like we don't know already that the Wii won't handle a 360/PS3 game. They don't have to smear in in our faces.

PoP is one game that absolutely does not need motion controlls.
PoP is about charecter movement, not about the charecter moving objects.

Not every Wii game has to use motion controlls. No use is better then bad use. (DS Developers learnt that in the end...how long will it take Wii developers?).

That said, I cant help thinking its too soon for a Pop game.
Two Thrones had an utterly fantastic ending.
It seems somehow...wrong..to continue it yet.

As I have said before, they will likely start a completely new PoP continuity. It's been done before, because Sands of Time wasn't the first PoP game.

Welll i doubt all of Ubisoft hate Nintendo, There is Red Steel 2 coming out this year(or next).

Yeah since Red Steel 1 was so amazing, Red Steel 2 will be one of the best games evar.[/sarcasm]

Yes, but its to soon to reboot again.
Between the old PoP games and the new ones there was a big gap.
(ignoreing PoP3D, that is...but I think thats safe to ignore)

Id much rather they did something else for now.

Wouldn't get too excited, the main game will be on 360/PS3/PC, and the Wii one will likely not even be a scratch. You have a good PC so I'd recommend that one unless the reviews for the Wii version are unnaturally good for a Ubisoft Wii game.

I can't see the PS3/360 version being anything more than an attempt to shame Assassins Creed, which would be very difficult imo.

A wii version I like the sound of, looks like they are looking at the financial and time ramifications of building a PoP game from the ground up for Wii. I would love to see it done properly, even a spin off title done properly would still be an excellent game.

Why would they wanna shame Assassin's Creed? PoP is more of an adventure game than a free-roamer, sure they have the same sort of gameplay, but they're both made by the same company, and I'm sure a new Assassin's Creed with be announced any minute.

True SuperLink but can you not see the glaring comparisons that have already been made in peoples minds? These games are in direct competition with one another and yes the new Creed will be announced soon and the comparative evil eye will be cast upon it.

I didn't really explain myself well enough when I said 'shame'. I meant that due to the very comparative nature of these games one will gain unfair press over the other which is not right by any standards as both PoP and the Creed are both great games in their own rights. My only problem is in making IP's that are too similar to one another, to reiterate my point it only means one game will be seen as inferior to the other.

It's probably because Ubisoft are too stupid to come up with original ideas.

well rival swords(two thrones) is out for wii dont forget, i advise you get it.

to me assasins creed and prince of persia are two very different games, fighting style (though AC did take the princes movements, climbing ect)im my minds eye, they are kinda difficult to compare, since they are different in many ways.

    PoP is a platform game.
    Very much a platform game.
Its just got a good story, which makes it seems like something else. But gameplay, its platforming.

\"Ive never played a PoP game, but ive always wanted to. \"

Then why not get the Cube versions of the previous games?
They are still fantastic games even today.

Well, Sands Of Time and Two Thrones are anyway.

Dont bother getting Revil Blades for the Wii.
Its just a port of Two Thrones, youd be paying extra for poor added controlls.

As I said, the heart of a PoP game is about charecter movement, and thats not something that lends itself to motion controlls.

Look in the second hand bins, or Budget cube stuff. Get the first and third game, you wont regret it.

That is such a stupid claim to make, besides games are subjective I personally thought it was a great game. Granted it was not without its faults but it did not suck.

Have you played the game is the question I put to you D. Because it is a real experience even if you think the game sucks it is still worthwhile just for the experience of playing and the feeling you get when the story works out, the first time you look over Jerusalem or Acre or the moments after an assassination when you put your enemy to rest. They are truly unique moments.

And after doing it again and again and again and again it begins to get really tedious. Smilie

In the game itself they are the total opposite of unique. Smilie

Ahhh I can see that not everyone has my appreciation of the Creed, its okay though at least there were enough of us to ensure the trilogy gets released.

We will see just how unique PoP will be when it uses the same engine and gameplay mechanic just spooned into a different setting.
