Protothea, a three year old PC title, is being upgraded by Ubisoft for Wiiware's Launch in May.
The game, a top-down vertical-scrolling shooter, gives the player the task of taking down a huge, deadly asteroid called Maqno 01 and simultaneously disrupting the evil plans of a political faction called 'The Core.'
Improvements from the original include;
-Three new missions for a total of ten
-Four worlds altogether instead of just two
-Two new main power-up weapons; te Destructor and Absorb
-50 enemies, 10 more than previous
-Whole game now takes place in full 3D, as opposed to a 2D/3D mix before.

"Ubisoft is excited to bring Protothea exclusively to the platform and we feel it's a must-have WiiWare title. Protothea really reminds me of some of the best arcade games, with the Wii Remote as an added dimension. It's just a flurry of fast-paced action that anyone can simply pick up and enjoy."

noneIt looks good but if I had to choose between shooters on Wiiware, I'd choose Gyrostarr.

noneI see a bunch of old school shooters coming to Wiiware. Hope it's no flood of bad ones. But it's a chance for them, since they aren't much of a sale on retail.
Which is a shame.
it looks like 'hit it with mouse controlled cursor and stir your ship with analogstick'. I wonder if that's actually fun to play for a long time. Seems fairly easy for me, too.
