New Top Spin 3 Details - No Online, Casual Play

By Jorge Ba-oh 10.05.2008 6

2K Sports recently held a conference call into their upcoming next-gen sports sim, Top Spin 3.

Lead producer Anthony DeLuca spoke on the differences between the Wii and PS3/Xbox 360 versions and visual/gameplay details.

  • Both simple and realistic tennis experiences. The Wii version features more simple gameplay, mini-games and motion control
  • Aiming, position and momentum of shots are most important.
  • Visual updates and enhancements, sound effect improvements and more.
  • Signature player styles, unique animations and movements. All players will be available at the start, with Rafael Nadal being exclusive to the PS3 version.
  • Online play will not be included in the Wii version. So no unlockable online content etc.

With the Wii's clearly inferior version, would there be much incentive in purchasing it over other versions? Is it a lazy attempt on cashing in on the whole Wii Sports phenomenon?

Something tells me that this game was not actually planned for the Wii when development began. Everything that I've read.

The Wii version features more simple gameplay, mini-games and motion control and Online play will not be included in the Wii version. So no unlockable online content etc.

Suggests that this is a cashin game. There hoping to make money off of the casual crowd by spending little money on the development of the game.

I wish there were someway that gamers could call out these lazy developers and let the casual crowd know not to support this kind of half hearted effort for the Wii. This will stop other developers from trying this approach. Yes, I'm looking at you Sega and Ubisoft. And I prepared to not purchase your titles. Well, Ubisoft, I actually have not purchased any of your games since XII.

Mini games!! On a freaking tennis game!!! DEAR GOD!

Urgh. No-online, what a sodding bummer. I seriously hope Nintendo get their arse in gear and urge developers to push online for the Wii.

It needs a hard-drive. With it, more potential for dlc, and developers will no doubt include online play/content.
