Nintendo Confirm Euro WiiWare Launch Lineup

Nintendo UK have issued out the European WiiWare launch details, including the line-up of downloadable goodies.

Following on from the US launch on the May 12th 2008, Europeans can enjoy the service just over a week later on May 20th 2008. Nintendo's service aims to seek smaller, more affordable projects with less risk and more freedom to be unique and creative.

Update: Nintendo have noted that whilst these titles will be available to download during the launch period, not all will make launch day.
  • Dr. Mario & Germ Buster (Nintendo)
  • Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King
  • Lost Winds (Frontier)
  • Pirates: The Key of Dreams (Oxygen Interactive)
  • Pop (Nnooo)
  • Star Soldier R (Hudson)
  • Toki Tori (Two Tribes B.V.)
  • TV Show King (Gameloft)

  • Despite not including pricing details for each game, it's likely that a similar scheme will follow through from the US and Japan set, with a maximum price of 1500 points (for FFCC: My Life as a King).

We are excited by the positive response we have received from third party developers to the announcement of WiiWare. We hope that this opportunity and the inspiration to produce original and exciting games will allow developers of all sizes to bring new concepts, genres and game play experiences to Wii. Opening this creative door will also provide Wii users access to a huge choice of games that they can easily download and enjoy.

Laurent Fischer, Managing Director of Marketing & PR of Nintendo of Europe

WiiWare launches across Europe on May 20th 2008, with a dedicated Nintendo Channel hitting on the 30th.

Looks like an alright launch line up. Smilie

I was thinking of getting Dr Mario, until I found out it cost 1000 Wii Points. It\'s a bit too expensive in my opinion. Star Soldier looks awesome though, hopefully that will be a bit cheaper.

I think i\'ll be getting lost winds, it\'s an original idea and looks beautiful.

Also where\'s defend your castle? That looks wicked.

I\'ve only just noticed but the site has changed, theres no adverts on the side and it looks wider now.

Nintendo has been in touch to say "not all eight titles will be immediately available from the May 20th launch date". The wording in the press release was, "From 20th May onwards a whole host of brand new creative games from developers across Europe and the rest of the globe become available, including..." followed by a list. We've asked Nintendo to clarify which ones will be out when.

All the games will be sold through the Wii Shop, as with Virtual Console titles
I find your lack of faith disturbing!

I love the look of Lost Winds so will likely get that depending on reviews. I am definitely getting Dr Mario, but nothing else on that list. Star Soldier R is deeply disappointing due to it\'s feeble gameplay structure. I would prefer to get Castle S on Wii, I hear it will be budget priced. It\'s two player also.

For those thinking about getting Star Soldier R, you should be aware of this before making the purchase-

Instead of a traditional progressive level structure, the game revolves around time attack-style gameplay, called Caravan mode, with players aiming to score as many points as possible in either 2 or 5 minute game modes in one of the game\'s levels. Unlike previous installments in the series, however, there are only two playable levels ( Smilie ). Aside from regular scrolling-shooter gameplay, the game also has a Fast Shot mode which measures how quickly the player can press the fire button

    It does have online leaderboards.

The choice is yours. It costs 700 points in the US and will likely be the same here

I buy LostWinds yesterday and it's brilliant! but so short, And the reason why European have 2 more titles is because it launches a week later which mean US will have two new titles by then.

Some people reviewed lost winds and gave it a 9/10, they said it looks better than most retail wii games, play awesome, mechanics are brilliant, but the game is short only 4-5 hours that's why they gave it a 9/10. i definately want that, Dr Mario, Star soldier, gyrostarr, FF possibly, and i have to check the others to see what's interesting. Nope, seems to be called WiiWare in Europe too - most likely for sake of simplicity Smilie
