Tiger has already come close to beating Mario to best golf game on the 'Cube (Although that is down to debate) however has snuck in before anyone can go Outlaw or Mario on the DS. One of the DS' largest problems was whether or not developers would use all the functions available, and among many suspects was The Godfather, EA. However all those naysayers will be surprised to hear, EA are one of the few companies going for something new.
The way in which PGA Tour sets itself apart from all the other versions (And there have been many) is the use of the two screens and touch mechanism to line up and hit shots. On the top screen you get a view of your golfer preparing the shot and on the bottom is a 2D representation of the course. To first line up the shot you can either use the stylus or D pad to aim the ball in line with the hole. To then determine the power of the shot you must use the stylus to draw lines on a meter on the bottom screen that is a hook shape leading up to a sprite of the ball. Drawing at the top of the meter generates a powerful swing and drawing at the bottom creates a very light swing. After you have defined this swing power, again the stylus must be used to draw the direction the ball will go in. Finally there is a vertical meter that you can give a quick rub to get some extra power behind the ball. But as if all those meters and rubbing was not enough, you can also put spin on the ball by rubbing the ball in the direction wanted, as you see it fly through the air.

Apart from this new controlling method it is pretty much the usual with real life golfing pros at the ready, and the ability to make your own golfer and take him or her through the legend tour. Although this is nowhere near as in-depth as the console versions, the various attributes that can be modified are still present to dictate your golfing ability. On the aesthetic side of things, clothing, hair, head and body can all be changed, along with which hand to golf with. In the legend tour, your golfer plays through various tournaments against well known golfers and finally challenges Tiger Woods himself, which guarantees to be a long and difficult journey. As you progress you can use money earned to buy more attribute points and also unlock new courses and golfers for use in quick play mode.

Apart from standard matches, Wi-Fi enables four player matches that take place all at the same time, so no waiting for your turn to putt. Quite unlike the actual game. The match modes vary from short three holes, to the full 18. And even if you are new to the game, Caddy Tips are always present to give you hints on how to tackle each hole, so experience is not always needed.

PGA Tour supports full 3D character models and courses that despite looking a little chunky and bland; do not make it difficult to recognize each and every golfer. The music is a little muted, but then again golf is not exactly a nosey game and overall PGA Tour looks like decent game for the DS.
The Tiger Woods series has always been one that has managed to get slightly better with each incarnation compared to the rest of EA's updates, and the DS version is no different. Despite the new gameplay being the only real new idea on offer it is sill the only golf game for the DS for the time being and looks to be a good one at that.

The control system for this drove me crazy in Paris, which is why I didn't bother with it enough to give my views on it...Maybe the alcohol didn't help with my precision stroking...(and I AM talking about the game still there!! :eek:Smilie

I have heard that to, I think alcohol and golf doesn't mix in all honestly. Or maybe 'Raz just sucks at golf. :P Or scratch that, 'Raz sucks at all golf bar Mario themed versions.
