SoulCalibur II (GameCube) Reader Review

Graphics are clean, sharp and vibrant. Music themes are epic and I actually noticed the sound effects. No complaints here.

The plot is yet another "find excuse to relate character to evil/good sword". Yes, it sucks.

Gameplay is great because it involves thinking MORE than reflexes. It sounds crazy, but if you see an opponent blocking, you have to KNOW to grab him to counter that. There are lots of counters in this game.

Well, that at least applies to multiplayer. You really don't see patterns in singleplayer from the AI to form counters. It seems that the CPU is just randomly doing things which makes it lose a strategic element.

The depth of the game is amazing as well. You have 20+ fighters with nearly 100 moves each, along with a handful of modes to play, including weapon master mode, which is a longer, story driven mode.

The game only requires 3 attack buttons and one block button, so new players should melt into this one.

With great graphics/audio, deep gameplay which makes up for the terrible plot, Soul Calibur 2 is a game meant to be enjoyed by multiplayer.
