Metroid Prime Hunters (Nintendo DS) Reader Review

The Demo Originally released with our good friend, The brick sized Nintendo DS, Metroid prime Hunters: First hunt Is a great example Of what This system Is capable of. It's Fun, Yet Shallow Content Could have been expanded, But then, Thats what the retail version is for.

Graphics:
The Intro Video sequence for Metroid is stunning for A handheld. Apart from The fact that samus starts to spin around awkwardly at the waist (Spine problems much?) And the Music that sounds all too much like a Milo Ad, its relatively Solid. The Traditional Metroid theme music (Bar, Slightly remixed) Plays as the Menu comes up, Revealing the viable options for the Game. as a level stars, The 'level starting' Music plays and you will start In first person perspective, Like in previous 'prime' installments. Samus' Arm Gun at the lower right of the screen. Some sections of Levels are too dark, Or too bland and uncoloured (or 'uncolored' if you arent australian.) And Tend to get repeditive after a few plays through, But This will likely not be the case With the Full retail game, released more then a year later. The Enemies And weapons (Except that of the boss at the end of regulator) Are nice and detailed, Showing off the impressive capabilities of the system, Though If you're expecting Quality of wow'ing preportions, You better be in it to enjoy the game, Unlike our friends at GT. Sound:
The games sound Is nothing more or less then 'metroid'. (For those who have played the previous installments, If your old you have no excuse, but Younger ones, this being packadged with the DS, Probably wont recognise the classic Music)
The Theme music is all here, Which is a releif for me because I went insane at how cool super metroid's music was. >_<
The sound effects, could probably use a bit of work. The Rocket launcher is decent, But the main Laser is annoying, A repedetive and Annoying Feature that had me searching for rocket ammo, more then anything else. The metroids sound effects are fine, Sqealing as they charge to make out with your helmet is kinda cute, Though it wont stop you from blowing them to smithereens with a well placed rocket shot or two.

Gameplay:
THE most important aspect of a Game, Not knowing what Was in store for me, I was both dissapointed and pleased. The worst thing is that you start with NO powerups whatsoever, other then Morph ball. At least the ability to use the charge beam would have made the demo a heck of a lot cooler. The modes; First, Survivor, A straightforward mission, you merely need to run around the floating station you're on, Destroying Metroids and trying to make sure they dont destroy you, for as long as possible, with increasing Levels of difficulty. Easily the 'hardcore' Level, Our 'hardcore' Gamer we have back here holds a record of over 500 kills, compared to mine, 234. Bloody Geek.
Regulator is the level they want to use to give you a idea of what The general 'levels' are, Though not as good. you will run through rooms, having to destroy all the enemies in it to unlock the door to the next room, which, even being way too linear, (You dont even have to shoot the doors to open them) Is relatively Easy to ignore for a while, though its a releif its being intergrated into the final game.
Morph ball is closer to a Race/minigame where you control Samus in morph ball form (obviously) And have to guide her to the end of the Level, while picking up small glowing balls to give you points, Also a timer is going so you will need to be speedy.
Multiplayer is where the demo shines, making up for the lack of Single player content. It isnt wi-fi, But you will be able to wirelessly connect with a Friend to play Deathmatch through three levels. These have a lot more variety and Individualism compared to the single player levels, so you'll wish You could play these offline against Bots when You arent near a friend who can play.

Length:
This being a demo of a game, We werent expecting them to show too much, and they didnt. You will get about two hours max out of single player, plus maybe a extra couple of hours if you have a friend to go online against.
Far too shallow, They could easily ad a couple of online modes at LEAST, but Satisfing enough considering you got it for free.

5/10

So:
a Relatively fun if lacking demo that is no where near comparible to the final game but is worth a look regardless. if you dont have this and want to get it on eBay we wouldnt recommend it, But it passes the time until you can get your hands on the real thing.
