When you hear the word 'Nintendo', what are the first words that spring into your head? Mario? True, since the mascot of the company is world-renowned. How about family values? Indeed, the Kyoto-based legendary power caters for a wide range of gamers. Hmm, innovation? Bingo! Touted as the Kings of Innovation, Nintendo has continuously led the way with its creative ideas and none have been more crazy than that of the Wario Ware series that appeared out of the blue. But now it has turned up on the mighty GameCube, can its novelty value survive?
Believe it or not, but Wario Ware, Inc: Mega Party Games$! does indeed have a storyline. However, do not raise your hopes too high as it is kookier than actually engrossing (as if you ever believed it would hold your attention at all!). Wario is, as many of you already know, a damn lazy, money-crazy, obese fool. But he has just hit upon a spectacular idea. After throwing together short three-second micro games for his Ware, Inc GBA d Looking at the game on paper you might think that it is not Wario scamming his fictitious friends, but Nintendo doing the very same to us, the vulnerable, innocent gamer. But no, you see the graphics are meant to be so unusual. You get a nice mixture to be honest, between the basic Game Boy / Game 'N Watch stylings right through to perfect representations of the SNES and NES, all thrown at you at break-neck speed that, whilst not pushing the GameCube, does at least remove the annoying part of re-living past titles
Games, not mini-games, but micro-games. But what does this mean? Well, it means that you are treated to short bursts of superb, and not so wonderful, gameplay from various stages in the past. You could be guiding Link into a cave, dodging vehicles on the F-Zero race track, jumping barrels to reach Donkey Kong or simply helping Wario jump on a Goomba's head in a Mario Bros pastiche. The idea is that your reflexes, attention and general mental constitution are all tested to their extremes, whilst at the same time proving to be one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences for several years
Work your way up the chain in the one-player mode, trying your best to last through the melee of three-to-five second tests of skill or focus on fun with your friends
Gameplay

The Coup de Gras, the saving grace, the icing on the gaming cake. Nintendo knows how to make addictive games and wow this really will drag you in with its simple 'pick up and play' nature that then never lets you go!
Graphics
5
Whilst the animations that drive the crazy storyline along are quite pleasing and the fact that no slowdown lingers in any of the micro-games is admirable, the GameCube can be used for far more than primitive old-skool graphics!
Sound
3
Emulated tunes from age-old games is not what you expect to hear blasting from your Dolby Surround Sound system. No matter how amusing Wario and his friends are, the volume will nearly always be turned firmly OFF!
Value
7
The amount of modes included might be a slight cheat since many are simply regurgitated ideas, however, the fun to be had with your friends, or merely attempting to out-do your previous high score will ensure the word 'tiresome' will not enter your head...

C3 Score Nintendo has done it again, albeit by the skin of its teeth this time round. The company has once more produced a seriously addictive game that will leave you and your friends wondering where all that time flew to. At the bargain RRP of /10
