Castle (PC) Review

Review for Castle on PC

There is a great castle sale in town, 50% off on the first castle bought. This makes the customers fly on the offer and the castle sales skyrocketing in this title. However, there are many threats to the castles under construction, like chickens and fierce knights who want nothing more than to prevent the newly built structures from getting finished in time. Will they be finished in time to keep the customers happy?

After a lacklustre excuse for a story about a castle sale going on in town, Castle finally begins. The goal in is to build castles for customers in order to make them happy. This is done by placing blocks in the matching silhouettes, but there is the twist of enemies constantly attacking the castle to try to prevent it from getting finished in time. While it might appear fun at first, it does not take long before a feeling of boredom strikes.

The most obvious flaw of is its highly repetitive and simple gameplay that could just have been taken straight out of a free-to-play Flash game. The controls are extremely basic, yet at the same time annoying. The main issue is that there are small boxes to hit and the game is clearly designed around having a Touch Screen to allow for faster movement, which is simply not there on most home computers.

Besides that, Castle is an extremely stressful experience, something that is hard to believe at first as it starts off at a slow pace, but as the game goes on, it does not show any mercy, throwing several enemies at the castle at once for players to tackle at the same time as trying to build, and with castles getting bigger and bigger for each stage, the frustrations levels rise just as quickly. When the difficulty is simply a test of how much stress someone can handle more than a test of actual skill, it is barely fun or rewarding at all.

While Castle does have an interesting concept that could have turned into something fun, it instead succeeds in turning it into a stressful bore of a game. It is a title worth getting only if it truly sounds appealing. In the end, though, Castle cannot be seen as anything more than a test of gamer resolve and patience.

Subpar

Castle would have done pretty well as a free-to-play title with its nice and creative concept that would tempt many to at least try it out. However, at a price of 4.99€, much more is expected than the average repetitive Flash game experience. This, mixed with stressful gameplay that ends up being anything but fun, does not make this a game that can be recommended to many. While there is not much bad with Castle, besides its high price-point and the fact that it gets stressful, there is also not much good with it either.
