There has always been something significant about franchises that try to emulate, mimic and almost clone others in the storylines, presentation and generally the approach to marketing and producing their stories. It seems that Bandai's Digimon series is one anim
Digital Monsters what comes to mind? The usual generic plot, why, naturally

Graphically, it's perhaps one of the title's stronger points for the developing body seem to have ported the style behind Japanese based art such as anim

Looking at the game from a gameplay standpoint it seems fairly standard to begin with however after a brief read wit the colourful instruction manual it becomes apparent that button bashing isn't the key option for simultaneous thought is needed to progress through fights. Instead of beating the enemy to a bloody pulp with punches and kicks players need to collect small orbs known as spirit balls that appear on screen after each enemy hit

Sound wise, the game perhaps lacks unfortunately. It seems very mono, single tones that although they do help emphasise the environment and location the characters battle within it seems lacking in emphasis and quality. Having said that, the backing sound isn't too bad but still could have been better presented. Fortunately it does help to build up the atmosphere and is fairly representative of the action on screen but in some cases seems to be thrown in for the sake of music that lets it down in that respect. Effects are fairly good, they seem to replicate the animations to a good degree and there's enough variety to establish a clean set and not something overbearingly tedious.

The game features fairly bland modes
    Gameplay

Unique. One word to summarise the gameplay, quite surprising for what initially seemed like another plaformed base rendition of Digimon however with the slight hint of strategy over pure button fest it seems fair to say that the enjoyment does hold during play. Varied moves, although limited, provide satisfaction and the need to evolve and improve characters during play adds to the variety.
    Graphics

    9

Sublime graphic sets, perhaps one of the best on the format in terms of looks - beautifully designed backdrops complete with highlights and shadow to simulate realism as well as environmental conditions which add to the atmosphere. Drawn to the very last detail and animated fluidly and on-par with the 3D incarnations within the franchise. Top marks.
    Sound

    6

Quite a drawback, unfortunately. Knowing the GameBoy advance to have some excellent renditions of themes and backing music it seems a shame that a uniquely designed little like Battle Spirits 2 lacks the real emphasis on sound to make it anything substantial although provides a nice additional to the background during battles.
    Value

    5

It needs something better, more developed perhaps, to hold the attention span to the title. It seems unfair to outright ask for more however in the long term unfortunately it seems there isn't anything strong to hold a player's time and willingness to return although for short bouts the unique action holds its ground.

C3 Score Digimon Battle Spirits 2 is fairly unique to its genre; almost different from what was expected when Cubed3 received the title for review. The immediate impression is a standard almost generic fighting game however upon playing the title for a while it seem to adapt to skills and general expectations of a title in the genre although invites characteristics and styles from other titles offering a nice and refreshing change to the standard expected. There isn't too much to go by within the title, several secrets to unlock but other than that something which does provide a unique and almost new form of gameplay although doesn't have the backing to make it something substantial in the long-term.
