Life after death? I find it unlikely, and I honestly hope that it does not. I don't want to live forever, a bit longer would be great but I when I die I want to die and that is it.

Is love real? Well obviously. If you mean the romantacised love you see in popular books and television, then I find it a bit artificial. I define it as a great affection you have for someone, and doesn't neccesarily mean I exchange compliments every two seconds.

P.S Maybe you should've split up the two questions into two different threads, both are quite independent of the other.

1. One of these things when I have absolutely no idea on, so I'm just focusing on the present really, trying to have as well a rounded life as I can. Thinking about it scares me though so I try not to do that.

2. Love is what you make of it, like many other things. It is a thing of the mind, I mean if we were animals we would just shag anything that ticked boxes for healthy offspring. Whilst some of us humans do do that, others believe that there is more to it and therefore act on glorified affection. Yeah romanticised love is artificial, but it's what some people to love to see whether it's some escapism thing. If someone gave a real account of love some people would be upsetSmilie

Yes, most definitely. In fact, one of the things I'm most afraid of is wasting my time/life as I feel it moves on pretty rapidly.

But then again I have many fearsSmilie

Love is what you make it out to be really, and I think varies depending on what you're loving - like the love for your family is different to the love for your girl/boy friend, and the that love would be different to that of a pet, or that of a music band/artist etc.

But at the root of it, I think it's having a really strong connection between youself and someone, some thing or a group of people/things.

I really don't want to think about death, it's always much better to think about the here and now.

1)It's all down to belief and what has made you believe things. I've seen enough that I believe there is something after life. What it is is of course the great mystery of life.

2)Once you feel love you know it's real, simple as.

Love: It depends on how you define it. I think its whatever you want it to be and if you think you're in love then you're in love, and you're only not in love if you define it as something else. (if that makes sence)

Life after death: I don't like to think about death much... maybe I'll be able to answer questions like this when I've lived a bit longer.

Life after death: I personally believe in reincarnation, because if there was a place where everyone went after they died, it'd get pretty crowded... I think that 'heaven' is just a waiting room, where you wait until someone/something else is born and then you become that. I don't think the reincarnation is to do with how good or bad you were in life, more to do with your personality.

Love: I agree with jb on this one, love is different depending on who/what you have love for.

But you must wonder why where here. Our purpose in live can not just be to eat, sleep be educated, get a job n then die. Its just not how it works. everything in this earth is created for purpose.

I can't comment on the love part since i've never experienced it nor had a girlfriend. But i believe, as beamy said, is how you make of it.

Life after death....

I personally don't believe in reincarnation. The thought that you awaking in another life with no memories of your last life is creepy.

I simply believe that a person dies, his soul is released and goes to heaven with the lord. Smilie

From where I'm standing the 'purpose' appears to be passing on genes and nothing more. Basically we're all slaves to nature (well I suppose humans aren't anymore).

As for life after death, I believe that your body rots to create new life, your mind dies with your body but your soul doesn't die and becomes part of something else. Of course I don't believe the soul is physically real, but it is spirtually Smilie

If I had a strong belief in reincarnation, it would be that exactlySmilie. Well, I guess I do believe in it, but there's always a niggling thought that thinks well maybe it's not? Guess it's the same with most people though.

well we are slaves to nature, just looks at the title of the topic 'sex, is it all guys think about?'. I know it seems a bit weird, but we are just on this earth to pass on genes and so on, thats what all creatures are there for. We weren't 'created' as such, we evolved and survive each day to pass on our genetic material. I know it sounds like a bit of an ultimatum but really...what else can there be?

I suddenly understand why both of these questions were put in the same topic (yeah I may be slowSmilie ). It is a bit creepy to think that we are similiar to a style of robot, that is programmed to carry out life's neccesities so I guess believing in love is that defining spark that makes our lives have more meaning, whether it's a passion, hobby or for a living being. I guess that's what separates us from animals (although I think they have affection, but not fully cerebrally developed).

Life after death? I'm pretty certain there is life after death... Fortunately I'm still skeptical about it so I still have a chance. I say that because I know I'm going to hell. I'm a sinner, we're all sinners, and I don't think that anyone above the age of 15 can truthfully say they've never sinned. Most people are going to hell... If God wants anyone in heaven he'll just have to be a bit more lenient... It's not like I've killed anyone or anything*

Love? I most certainly believe in love also, being a victim of it currently... I tells ya... Life would be a hell of a lot easier without love... Although if it works out well then obviously I'd want it here to stay ^^;;

Ooh, come back after four hours of Philosophy lessons ready for some more. Smilie

Personally my views on such things are generally indecisive and vague (which means I'm a pants Philosopher) but I like challenging and exploring theories whilst (slowly) developing my own. I doubt they will ever fully develop, though

wow karn, thats really deep Smilie

I totally agree with you on the 'two parts' to love though, it makes so much sense. Explains why people do silly things when they're in the first stage anyway

I don't know the purpose of life, I don't know if theres neccesary some grand purpose, but I do believe that its more than to just reproduce. And not everyone is the same, not everyone thinks about sex, not everyone feels the need to reproduce but still have the will to live, so I don't think that can be it.

And not everyone is the same, not everyone thinks about sex, not everyone feels the need to reproduce but still have the will to live

But for many the will to live includes the need to reproduce, to see one's genes passed on and the smile of a child knowing full well it will exist when you have passed the river styx into the great unknown.

Thats based on the evolutionist theory and also states that our actions are innate. Doesn't take into account any cognitivity and is reductionist and also deterministic.

However your view is also extremely limited and assuming that theories cannot co-exist and cross over with eachother. Why couldn't a cognitive human succumb to an innate desire? Or indeed wish to give in to an innate desire?

Reincarnation interests me.. I don't think the principle is any more unlikely than everyone going off to heaven, but I don't see how anyone can explain the fact that there are simply more people on the planet than there were. If there is only reincarnation, how does population increase? If anything, it should decrease from the buddhist perspective, seeing as people should reach enlightenment.
