Calling all American TV downloaders/Americans who watch TV on C3!
Anybody else seen a show called Dexter recently? It's on cable channel Showtime over in America, it's just finished its first series of 12 episodes and is bloody fantastic. It's set in Miami and is about a guy (Dexter - duh) who is a forensic scientist blood expert by day, serial killer by night. Another twist though - he only kills those who deserve it, those who've commited horrendous crimes. While he's a murderer himself, then, he's also a good guy and you find yourself rooting for him very quickly despite his first scene in the show actually being a nasty murder.
It's definitely a show for the more mature audience. Of course there's lots of murder and other death involved, but there's also his girlfriend whose ex-husband (well, current, sortof...) repeatedly beat and raped her, drug usage, alcoholism, prostitutes all over the place and another serial killer, who's toying with Dexter and knows who he is, who is going about chopping said prostitutes into pieces and leaving them on display, sans blood. It's all based on a book called 'Darkly Dreaming Dexter' by Jeff Lindsay, which I've not read yet but plan to once I finish watching the show (I've just seen episode 10). Series 2 has been commissioned to be shown next year and is likely to be based on the second book, 'Dearly Devoted Dexter'.
Have to say – easily one of the best things I’ve seen on TV in years, if not ever. Despite the themes, it’s actually quite a funny show as well and Michael C. Hall, who plays Dexter, is brilliant, as are the rest of the cast. The characters are genuinely likable (and detestable) and I’ve found myself getting into it a lot. Every episode has been great, and the last four I’ve watched have just got better and better each time, so I’m hoping it’s going to build up to some godly conclusion. It started out a little randomly, but the story arc basically started in episode one and carries right through each one, so every episode needs to be seen to get the full effect. I just want to know when it’s out on DVD now; wonder if it’ll ever be shown over here. If somebody’s got some sense, they’ll have already bought the rights on the sly.
Has anybody else seen it, and if so what do you think? Hope somebody has, or I at least have made people a bit curious and want to take a look. It’s all over torrent sites.
