Im just watching Wii video's and Im just terrified on how really crappy the games look. Why aren't developers really putting an effort in making the game look good. I know Wii isn't the graphical power house compared to Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, but c'mon, Some of them games I've seen so far are like n64 graphics. I am pretty sure Developers can make a game look superb. If Capcom can make Resident Evil 4 look magnificent on the Gamecube, why can't other developers do that on the Wii and stop doing rubbish port overs. Port overs never really work, No effort is put into making the game.

What do you think?

I think the games look unimpressive lately because developers aren't putting as much effort into the graphical side of things as they are into implementing and figuring out good ways to use the Wii-mote. I think it can be comparable to what happened early on for the DS. We got a lot of games that tried too hard to use the touch screen (and often failed in that regard) and didn't pay much attention to anything else. Now though, we are seeing much better looking DS games in general.

As time goes on, and developers get to grips with the Wii and what it offers, we will see much better looking games. For now, we just have to wait for the developers to "grow up" and take advantage fully of what the Wii has to offer.

These are first generation Wii games. When most new consoles are released developers are focused on getting the most out of the new console graphically because thats going to be a major selling point, but on Wii its not the major selling point - the control is - so graphics just weren't a major focus at launch. Wait until developers actually start trying, and then I think we'll see some great graphics, I'd even predict it'll be much better than most people are expecting.

To be fair Resident Evil 4 was in development for quite a few years, Wii dev kits haven't been around for 12 months yet. Its taken Microsoft and Capcom about 12 months each to get their graphical big-hitters onto the console.

Evans is right good looking games take time to make and it takes time for developers to get used to a new system. Youve also got to take into account that most developers are looking for ways to make the Wii-mote work with the games as well, so im quite sure once developers have worked out a way to make the Wii-mote work in their games they will move on to improving the graphical quality of the games.

What the hell are you talking about Zcollvee?

Tman!! the main point I was trying to make was the deadline issue. These games needed to be ready for launch, the twelve plus months Gears of War had weren't available to UbiSoft's RedSteel as it had to be released at a given time. Xbox360 games look as good as they do now because there is no rush, time can be taken (well as much as is normally allowed) and better results gained.

As others have said, it is early in the consoles life.

I'm expecting the first game to show what the Wii can do to be Super Mario Galaxy (probably followed by MP3). It that still looks crap then maybe the Wii can't do all that much afterall?

I just completed pokemon yellow! 151 pokemon seen and caught.
Surely that's worth a star?

Stupid crap quality...

anyway, 'nuff said. MP3 is fecking gorgeous.

And there is your answer.
Call of Duty 2 and Perfect Dark zero were both 360 launch games yet the likes of Gears of War and Alan Wake look far better than those games, just wait a bit.
If the Wiis power really isnt that good then I think Developers should try to focus more on stylised graphics rather than realism.

It's georgous indeed, but I wouldn't say it's a great amount better than Metroid Prime 2.

Some better lighting, a few smoother edges....They're redoing the graphics anyhow aren't they?

It's FAR better than MP1 + 2

The lighting is much MUCH better, and the textures are a lot sharper. The models are really good too. As are the particle effects.

I can't wait for Metroid Prime 3!!!!

For the Wii most Nintendo games are shaping up with pretty cool graphics but third party games aren't really....but that should change soon as its been a while since the final dev kits were sent out.

And I'm really looking forward for disaster....but theres not been any official screen shots released (i don't think)

..which is obviously from an FMV.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

To be honest I think Wii graphics are what they need to be. If they were any worse, I would have reason to complain, but for what it is, I think there just right. I always thought that less graphical games always appeared on launch, but I can guarantee they will get better through it's life. Already I was saying to a friend today that I thoguht Pokemon Battle Revolutions visuals looked exceptionally smooth and had gorgeous lighting. Super Smash Bros Brawl also looks gorgeous and has some nice effects.

Well it obvious that Nintendo made games and the big third party exclusives are going to leap above the rest, but right now so far third party titles aren't cutting and are looking to make a quick buck.

So far MP3, Mario Galaxy and SSBB are look graphically stunning. HD or not

Hmm - I think they can do better in some areas graphically where Nintendo themselves are concerned.

IMO some of the backgrounds in titles are a lot poorer compared to some of the far nicer looking character models. Granted backgrounds tend to be far bigger than characters themselves, but nice looking environments can really help bring a lot of character/feeling to a level/area/dungeon.

It's just really cringe-worthy looking at shoddy 2D tiles/gratings that ruin the niceness of a scene. It seems like a few are getting the hang of things though, Pokemon Battle Revolution does look very nice as Marzy said above, it's smooth, has nice animation and models along with some better looking backgrounds over last gen. Even smaller titles like MP8 seem to have a good step up from their GC predecessors.

I hope the PS2 ports will cut down and Wii specific titles will begin to shine and show the full potential of the machine. Funilly enough I wish there were less games on the Wii, I'd rather a publisher (cough Ubisoft cough) release 2/3 good games in a quarter as opposed to 6/7 lazy ports with Wiitack.

I don't expect some GoW level of graphics from the Wii, but would expect some nice, clear characters and backgrounds.

Developers should really get their finger out - the Wii isn't a powerhouse, but can handle some good visuals and effects. Sure, control is the main focus here, and you'd find a legion of fanboys ranting on about gameplay over graphics, but gameplay certainly aint the sole part of a game - well, unless it's a sound-only game.

Don't worry, you will all feel much happier when you play Mario Galaxy. I'm sure that will be stunning to look at.

That could be interesting. Could you have a decent videogame without visuals?

Well, it wouldn't exactly be a videogame without visuals, now, would it?Smilie

It's a concern. Take into account that developers are going from working with two systems with a vast ammount of power and processing to a system argubly still this generation. They're not used to pushing the limits and optimizing for this type of hardware anymore. I'm sure if the PS3 and 360 were more similar to the specifications of the Wii, we'd be seeing some much better looking visuals. But right now, bar Nintendo, they just don't care. If Nintendo are happy run with "it's the controls that count" then so are they.
