I heard sex does have something to do with these pregnancies they go on about.
Seriously, the media I don't think promotes them - very often the media tries to either represent the world, or give people technically what they want to see. Yes, you do see shows with lots of sex/violence, but often when the show/book/whatever is fictional then that is a representation of that characters world which they live in, and shouldn't be taken as what is actually going on, and most people probably shouldn't think that's what actually goes on eiter, although often they actually get close to the mark, no matter how ridiculous it seems sometimes.
The fact is we do live in a world where people take drugs, have sex, drink alcohol and generally do bad things. The media shows that, or maybe uses it to get more readers/viewers, although it wouldn't get more readers if people didn't want to read/watch about that kind of thing . People who idealise these things are just gullible idiots, although occasionally the media might play a part in this, overall it's down to how the individual perceives it, and theor own ideas of it.
The media is often used as a scapegoat that promotes these things, but they were there in the first place, they just put it up for everyone to see.
EDIT: Also, in the past, lives were a lot more private, and the media in general were a lot more reserved. Long before the first political scandals, sex stories and Heat magazine these things probably still went on, but many years ago, private lives were private, whether they were famous or not, and papers/tv didn't report that kid of thing, and general public attitudes at the time were that they didn't discuss these things. You could say they reported "real" news, rather than which celebrity has the saggiest tis and the most celulite. Times have changed, now these kinds of things sell papers, so hey report it, TV and film shows it, and music sings about it, and people discuss it. Generally the world is a lot more open and less inhibited, which in many ways is a good thing.
E2: tagline - it's a loss of inhibition and stuffy old restrictions, not a loss of morals that has happened.
