I was on live since it launced on the original XBox. Yup, when there was no Halo 2 and the only good game you could play on was Unreal Championship. Sure for a while it was fun, glitchy and lag filled fun, but at least people were polite.

Ever since Halo 2 and then the move to 360, I had to encounter this:

Quick warning, its not for the faint of mind.

Now imagine everyone, on every server, talking like this online. Yup. BYE LIVE!!!

While I am not in favor of the Friends Code system, I do admire that Nintendo was thinking about how to block morons like this on there service by limiting chat. Sure, everyone says there is a "Mute" button, but with so many morons on the network you really expect me to go in and block all 2 million users I hate just to play some Uno online?

Screw that! Smilie

Any Online service is anything but perfect. It's overrated, it'll never be perfected. Nintendo have tried to stop the thing you didn't like about XBOX Live, but it's made it arguably worse. Friend codes, the main reason we'll prolly never see an MMO on a Nintendo console, ever. I was hoping for Final Fantasy XI, but I doubt it'll happen, because Nintendo think that everyone on the planet in a pedophile. Smilie

Is this, like, the first discussion-type post in the WiFi forum? Smilie

Why yes, I believe you are right.

Sidepocket could probably win the "C3 Discussion topic poster" award. Dunno what the award ceremony would be called though. I didn't think that deeply into it, I was thinking CAFTAs, with the first word meaning "Cubed3" but I couldn't think of what the other words meant.

I'm smart! Honestly! It's God's fault for resting on Sunday! Smilie

We could indeed have gotten Final Fantasy XII, after all, the game was made for PS2. But then I guess we can't handle proper Final Fantasy, so we get another Crystal Chronicles game. I'm hoping for more RPGs really, there is a big lack of them, and the Xbox 360 has Blue Dragon. Hopefully, some Tales games besides Sword of Legendia (which isn't confirmed as a Tales game yet) will come.

Star to Sidepocket for the first WI-Fi thread I've taken any interest in.

Personally, having never really played online, I'm not too bothered about the restrictions of Friends Codes, although of course I see the problems this set-up causes for MMOs. Multiplayer gaming is most fun for me when I know the person I'm whipping mercilessly, so I'm happy with the FC scenario. If I don't personally know who I'm playing against, I may as well be playing the single-player offline. Yes, I realise that I won't experience as intuitive dynamic intelligence from the AI, but very few of those online display intelligence of any kind anyway.

Less posty, more gamey.

The guy being a nob on the other end sounds like a 12 year old.

Any person who believes anything like that, and then goes and starts blabbing about it over the Internet is a complete dickhead.

Still, Friend Codes also suck balls. Especially as nobody on here will add me back Smilie

I have SO many codes to add back at some point, but I just haven't got round to it, sorry all!

I have never tried LIVE. FACT.

You can still speak to friends In MP:H, which is a great laugh. I remember I only used an Arnold Schwarzenegger soundboard, meaning any attempts of communication were replied to with, "What is best in life?" instead of my high, girly thirteen year old voice

1"We're mentalist psychic Scots , which means we can read your mind. If you're lying, your head explodes and we laugh."

Well. The only thing Live is good for to me is to play with my friends, screw random matches, you'll end up adding 5 new cursewords to your dictionary every go.

So for me the friendcode thing isn't bothering me that much, I'll still only play with people I know, because people I don't know are usually turds anyways.

There are plenty of good people on XBox Live. In fact, in my first few matches on Halo 2 I found some of my best friends on Live who I talk regularly to. They're great guys, and there are tons more like that.

Xbox Live >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wifi connection

To say it isn't is PURE ignorance.

To the poster above...

You did not read my post did you tart? I did not say that Nintendo WFC was better than Live. I am saying that I am glad such morons are not on WFC. I know they are, but they cannot talk to me so I am happy. Less Migrains during gameplay. Smilie

It's an extremely mixed bag on Live, but you can't judge it purely on Halo 2. You have to appreciate the audience that different games appeal to, in Halo 2's case that includes the worst people in the world, and since the game is so massively popular there'll be millions of those people. Some people can put up with it, some people can't. You can still play private custom games with just people you know and you can mute people (although it's a bit of a cafuffle, which they've fixed in H3).
If you play unranked Gears of War on the other hand, it's a totally different story. The awful retards all play ranked, so you're left with all the friendly, or at least relaxed people who just want a of grief-free laugh.

The live user base has broadened massively just while I've had it over the last year, so it's not quite as dominated by teenage American assholes as it used to be.

I don't think that aspects a big problem any more at all, the problem at the moment is how quickly all games but the most popular become underpopulated, and that can only get better with time.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

There is alot of decent pepole that play Rainbow 6:vegas and many of them don't trash talk and piss guys off. After the patch was released.

GO Bill!

You can mute people on live you know.. I think in halo 2 it was a bit of a pain, but to be honest, on wifi connection you are only playing with your friends, which is totally possible on the 360. You can limit yourself to that if you want to- point is on the wifi connection you don't have the option not to.

Dear oh dear, someone's being terribley dramatic. It's a simple case of muting the idiots, and playing regularly with the friends that you builf up. Live kicks Wiiconnect's arse. Into oblivion.

The problem is with popular games, which is a shame as usually (with the exception of 50 Cent games) popular games are really good.

But with great power, comes great irresponsibility, & the most popular Online games, like Mario Kart DS & Halo 2, get twats on them. Thankfully, on Mario Kart DS, the worst kind you get to see is avatars with vulgar images, or Swastikas.... while they're horrible too, to some people at least, on Halo 2 you can have the same thing & swearing I guess.

It should be said over & over, no Online system will ever be perfect. I think the best online systems are probably those you have to pay a monthly fee for, noone in their right mind would pay a monthly fee for a game, just to be a stupid twat on it, unless they were rich, since games like Mario Kart, Halo 2, & especially Runescape are easy to get online, it means idiots can get on with no problem. Personally, I liked what Nintendo did with MKDS and Hunters - you can play anyone, but only use features such as voice chat with those you know and (presumably) love. That stops irate tabloids blaming Nintendo for encouraging paedophilia and lets you play against anyone. Two birds, one particularly vicious and elastic stone.

Screwing the rules since 1989.

Am I bad? I kinda agreed with the racist kid.

But seriouslly, Wii hasn't taken advantage of the online demands of gamers, and it doesn't seem to me that it will because of one reason or another. This factor will remain one of X360's (besides it great game range) main selling point over Wii.

Enoch Powell was right, and you know it.

The Wii's online service hasn't really started yet, details aren't even announced - and there is no reason why it can't be at least as good as Xbox Live when it is up and running. Of course equally it might not be as good as Live, but until it actually starts and until we actually know the full details you can't say that Xbox Live is better, we don't know yet.

Beam I respect your views but that's just outrageous. XBox Live ALREADY wins because you can have more than 1 account per xbox. XBox live has:

Messaging - voice, video, pictures
Chat - You can be anywhere and talk to each other (games, dashboard, movies)
Downloads - No way the Wii is gonna beat this if you have to pay money to download games under a mb)
Friends list - I will eat my hat if Nintendo actually make it so you can see what games people are playing
NO FUCKING FRIENDS CODES.

I think Xbox live will probably be better than the Wii's online but it's definitely too soon to say. You never know, maybe Metroid prime will have an awesome online service that has Friend battles, stranger battles (not the search stuff that's on DS but proper server browsing) and a really good stat system that'll let us have forum signatures with our stats on etc.
EDIT Ooh and a map creator!

Someone's a little over optimistic...

I'm just saying that it would be good if that did happen, I doubt that it will but It's possible.

Microsoft do everything right as far as giving their community what they want ( a product of good research and talking to the fan hubs= fanzine websites), Nintendo on the other hand have already made mistakes in my opinion by not allowing a gamertag in tandem with your Wii number, perhaps a change their would be a good foundation to build upon.

It's too early to make assumptions until GDC. LS
