This Thread is about God Hand

It's SO good! Like REALLY REALLY good.

I've been playing it almost solidly since 12:30, stuck on the Stage 3 boss. Stuck as in getting better every time I do it, knowing that I only get hurt if I make a mistake.

It's so hard, but so damned fair. It's unbelievable. If you screw up, you get hurt, if you don't you feel amazing pasting these guys without getting hit. But if you get too good the game starts to get harder, the difficulty levels up as you get hits without being hit. It's ingenious.

Being shite at memorizing button combos, this is absolutely perfectly suited to me because instead you just select moves for each button and a few basic combinations (down and each button), and get more and more moves as you go on. Special moves are integrated fantastically, you have to put just as much thought into using them as any other moves to get the most out of them, it's not just a big nuke.

You need to buy this before it disappears off the face of the earth. My best PS2 game by far and I'm about a 3rd of the way in.

Nah, it's too satisfying to get old. You get new moves all the time and because the system is so flexible that you can easily completely change your fighting style just by switching some techniques around. And you always want to see what rediculous miniboss will come next.

This video demonstrates it quite well. All this stuff is done just using 3 face buttons and the movement analogue to do standard moves.

The gameplay reminds me of Viewtiful Joe. Not just the small number of bottons used, but the style and speed. In 3D........and that game was awesome.

It is repetetive, but there's not time to get bored of it because it's so intense and frantic and you're having too much fun.

I think it's quite similar to Viewtiful Joe yeah, never played that though.

The combat system is okay (at best), but player control, the camera, level design, enemy design and basically everything else flat-out sucks.
The game is surprising lengthy for such a basic game, though it gets increbily boring and frustrating so you likely won't play for too long.

    IGN gave it a 3/10.
The game does look pretty cool but also pretty repetitive.

Have you actually played it? Because this post is exactly what somone would say if they'd only read the IGN review, which is a steaming pile of shit.

The combat system is absolutely perfect. It's all about being creative and making rediculous fight scenes like in a kung fu film or something. When you play most fighting games, you go through all the characters and find the one with a style that suits you, in this you make it up as you go along and customize it for each situation. I don't see how it could be any better, at all.

The control is slightly cumbersome, but since 90% of the time you're locked onto an enemy and just dodging and hitting them, it really doesn't affect the game a great deal.

The camera is absolutely perfect. How could it possibly be better? It's always facing where you need to see (the enemy you're hitting). There is no other solution for a 3D game like this that doesn't ever obscure you're view.

The 'level design' is crude (it's like early fps), but it's not about levels. The levels are there to facilitate the fighting, if you want elaborate puzzles and intricate levels you shouldn't be playing this.

What's wrong with the enemy design? It's got it's own style and if you don't like it then fine, it doesn't mean it sucks though.

You have to understand that not all games are like Zelda where you do a lot of different things in quite simple ways. In games like God Hand, Odama, Panzer Dragoon, Radiant Silvergun, Tetris: you do one thing, and it's very well thought out and refined. You don't get a flying section and a shooting section and a mirror puzzle and a water puzzle, you get an intense, non stop, skill based game. It's quite an old fashioned philosophy which is very unpopular with uncultured Californian game journalists who just want to do what the game tells them to do over and over again (which is what 99% of games are based around these days) and get the game finished and reviewed in an evening.
It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

It's sortof Viewtiful Joe 3D set in the Wild West with more techniques and much more customisation. It's frigging AWESOME. Basic graphics aside the character models, but who gives a crap when it plays so well? I actually prefer it over Clover's other swansong, Okami. At times it's unforgivingly difficult, but I just keep coming back for more. And it's really funny to boot.

I'm on normal, on stage 4 I think. I like the dodge mechanism on the right analogue stick, but one thing I don't like is that there's no way to jump. Imagine how much more mad it could have been if air attacks were in as well - though I suppose it could've mucked it up.

Same, I keep wanting to jump. it seems quite a big thing to leave out so I assume they must have tried it and run into problems or something. It might just have made it too complicated.

The face running roulette move almost makesup for it though.Smilie

That's because it's copied and pasted from the IGN review Smilie

Anyway... I'm really not sure how I feel about it. I haven't played it get because it was a choice between this and Okami and I'm sure Okami'll be better, but it does seem like it might get a little bit repetitive if you don't bother to use all the moves available to you.

It seems good in the same way Viewtiful Joe was, but I often had to stop playing that before I'd even done a whole level because I'd either get so pissed off with it, or I'd get a bit tired. It looks hard in almost the same way VJ was as well, but thankfully it doesn't look like it has the annoying impossible to escape situations and 'near-death in one hit' bits that VJ had...

    If I have any extra money at any point I'll probably get it and ask my friend if I can borrow his PS2 again... Until then I'll just have to watch videos and dream about kicking enemies miles into the distance ;-;
