You can't choose characters though :-/ the Story mode is set out so you have to use certain characters in a certain part of the story. i.e. you HAVE to use either Mario or Kirby for the first match, or you HAVE to use Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong for their stage.

There might be a stage select where you can choose and play it sort of freely, but that won't be in the story mode. Smilie

And where did you get this information from?!!?

Well, todays update should have been great, but alas, it was not to be. Just bloody Nintendo reminding us of the Crap Online functions they use. Smilie

It's pretty obvious isn't it? I mean look at the FMV, they're not going to make tons of FMV sequences for EVERY character. It just wouldn't make sense if you could change your character freely.

Smilie @ today's update. Rather than it being an awesome update like some though, it was actually shit Smilie. At first everyone thought we could use Mii Codes or Wii Friends, but NOOOOO we have to register ANOTHER set of codes! Smilie

I looooooooooooove friend codes.

Cubed3 Member

Even though today was originally the Japanese launch date, none of you bothered to check the Japanese site? They DO have an awesome update. Smilie I just hope we also get it in Europe and America.

ModeratorStaff Member

Actually... today was the original US release date. The original Japanese release date is still the same (January 24th I think)

& I don't see any awesome updates on the Japanese site... What made you say that?

Funny how many people speculated as today was the original release date, that there will be a super awesome update.
Instead it's about friend codes... the irony. Smilie

ModeratorStaff Member

I was expecting something shitty for an update everyone thought would be epic... Smilie I'm so glad I didn't get my hopes up!

The irony indeed...

Not very impressed. We've seen from other games that Miis and the Wii Friend list can be used for online functionality.

It should have used the Prime 3 Corruption method of showing those on your Wii Friends who are online enabled for the game.

It should use Mii's as profiles like in Mario Strikers to seperate users who have the same Wii code (SuperLink and Bomberman are a good example).

It should tie these Mii's into the whole game, i.e. control setups, level designing etc.

Now we can only hope Mario Kart does a better job, Battalion Wars and Smash seem to have failed in this regard.

That I agree with. I mean how the fuck is anyone going to know if they're playing me or my brother? Unlike with strikers where our Miis have codes.

This is quite annoying indeed. I guess we'll just have to deduct it from the characters we play as, if she's anything like she is in Melee, my bro will probably be Peach.

Actually today is the release date for the 2nd push back of Japan and US release.Smilie

Well TBh I don't count the earlier ones, since Dec 3rd was the first accurate and official release date, anything before that was simply speculation and "Q4 2007" stuff. Smilie

i dont know if the updates will be any better. i mean they basically told us everything about the game anyways. Unless the reveal some super awesome character like zero from megaman zero series (considering the megaman zero series is nintendo consoles only). so other than character updates, smashdojo is basically dried out of any good ones.

But Megaman X (with much Zero in it) is a fairly Sony leniant series.

I think it'd be Classic Megaman or X, preferably the former. Smilie

Ah, I guess I was annoyed by today's update earlier... actually, I still am, I'm going to rant some more.

Bad points:
- You can't tell who you're fighting on the other side of your Wii WiFi.
- Does this say to anyone that this means "only 1 player per Wii"? Meaning that if my brother wants to play against me and say, Craig at the same time, we couldn't do that? Only me, or my brother, VS Craig?

Good Points:
- Since it displays the person's name above them when you play them, this could mean that you can choose a name when you play online. Surely Sakurai has anticipated that many people use the same console? That way, you play with your name, not only will your opponent know who he/she's facing, but you'll be able to keep using your set control method.

Or there can only be one online profile per console, which would suck more ass than is physically possible. Infact, if you could only have 1 profile/player on WiFi per console, I'm not sure I think WiFi for Brawl is a good idea anymore. Smilie

Returning Poke-ball Pokemon today.
Meh.

Yay Pokemon... and they look pretty shit too.

Cubed3 Member

I thought they had repeated themselves today with this update. Its about the fight for the smash ball, they never detailed that on the site however that is all stuff we learned from the various shows (E4all especially)

I guess this update is handy for the people who didnt search around for Smash videos that appeared from the show... like all 3 of them/

And then a song that I cant listen to for some reason..

ModeratorStaff Member

Another meh update. I guess if you look at it one way, getting all the meh updates out the way... MOAR COOL UPDATES. Smilie

TBH I can't think of many more "meh" things for them to reveal. More old items, more old Pok

I guess this was expected, there are tons of "meh" things in SSBB that unfortunately has to be included in the updates. When will we get a cooool one... when?!

ModeratorStaff Member

I'm thinking, not before the game is released. Smilie I also think they'll stop the updates before then. What about the promised info from that Japanese magazine on the 15th? Anything on that?

I really don't know what to expect at this point in time. I guess its good to have some surprises, whether it be updates or eventually by playing the game.

Cool update today, another character's Final Smash, another character's moves which aren't Zelda's Smilie a mystery eh?

And is anyone else worried that the EU release date hasn't been announced yet? When do NoE usually announce their Q1 release dates?

No need to worry, they've given a ballpark date!

Nintendo confirms to VideoGamer.com that the game won't hit our shores until after the end of Q2 2008.

Hotly anticipated Wii title Super Smash Bros. Brawl won't be coming out in Europe until after June 2008, Nintendo has confirmed to VideoGamer.com.

We thought something was up when we noticed the game was absent from Nintendo's updated schedule, distributed to media this morning. This seemed odd considering Mario Kart Wii, another high-profile first-party Wii game, was listed as coming out in Q2.

When contacted by VideoGamer.com a Nintendo spokesperson revealed that SSBB won't be out until after Q2 in Europe. SSBB is set for release in the US on February 10, 2008 and January 24, 2008 in Japan.

This is obviously bad news for European fans of the series. It means at best we won't be seeing SSBB for a whopping 158 days after its Japanese release, and 141 days after its US release.

The Nintendo spokesperson said: "If the game is not listed on the schedule up until the end of Q2 it is currently not due out until after that time."
