Is the Wii's bubble about to burst?
Amazon.com have Sony's PS3 at the top of their Top Seller List, knocking off the Wii, which has been there a while.
Is this the beginning of the end?

The trend hasnt caught on in the UK. Checking Amazons UK version of Top Seller list, the PS3 is in about 13th - unlucky for some - with the Wii at top spot.

Erm, surely global sales are what matter most. Not just Amazon Top Seller lists.

The PS3 is at the top. Price reduction maybe? I seem to remember Nintendo issuing a press release when the gamecube was selling again due to a price of 99 dollars.

Everybody knows it's all about the sales in Japan anyway.

And why Wii Bubble Burst? It's at no 2 ffsms! First of the losers I guess, right?

Dude, whats your problem? Calm down; it's only a forum.

I know it's only Amazon, I know it's only in the US, but this is how these things start.
With the PS3 starting to sell better the World may begin to relise the Wii just isnt that good.?

Sony may be thinking to themselves "Today Amazon; tomorrow THE WORLD"

I can see the Wii's bubble bursting in a year or so. Not now, though.

True, that. Ninty has a lot of work on its hands to make sure that interest doesn't wain in time.

Obviously, as GR said, it's just due to the recent $100 price drop. Until there's a similar price drop here, PS3 sales will still lag far behind the Wii. As for when the Wii's bubble might burst, I really have no idea.

And also when the 60GB model is phased out in America I can see the PS3 sales dropping back down again.

It's Microsoft who should be worrying rather than Nintendo, considering they're the ones more directly competing with Sony.

Sorry, I just found out I'm a product of incest. Having difficulty coping with it.

Yeah, the PS3 price drop, they're probably selling like crazy, as people want to get them for cheaper before the old models are phased out & people will have to buy 80GB PS3s for the same price as the old one.

Great software will keep the Wii alive in the long haul. Right now is it's not really so much a problem in the U.S but it is here due to a release schedule that we have in comparison. Super Mario Galaxy has got to come out here at christmas, the Wii needs the prospect of that title with the name Mario in it to hit at christmas to keep sales ticking of units within europe. Metroid does not have any power with parents. {LS]

Well, almost. Here's a picture of my great great great grandparents:

Sorry for the way of topicness, I couldn't believe my eyes when I read it. Bastards. Filthy filthy bastards.

Who are they now?

ModeratorStaff Member

As everyone has been saying, it is undoubtedly due to the price cut. And that's really the only explanation. Besides, the Wii dropping one place is hardly the beginning of a "bubble burst".

The greatest man that ever lived with his wife, their three sons and their wives. In fact this man was so great he went on to live 950 years, after surviving a huge catastrophe which killed all humans and animals.
But as I said, way off topic.

Cubed3 Member

Ah right. Didn't see the ark in the background. Zoom, went right over my head that one it did. Too slow, been out of the game too long. The 'life' game that is, not the 'family' one that that old man's grandkids took part in.

Perverts.

Erm if anything the Wii's bubble is about to get bigger now that THE games everyone has been waiting are a stones through away from coming out. Mario galaxy will keep the bubble there for a while for sure.

Woooooooo!!!
Cubed3 Member

Regardless of Galaxy's pure genius, that is only one game. Speaking only for myself of course, there is not a single other game on Wii that I would spend any of my actual British pounds on. There's probably some stuff my mum would play for 5mins every now and again, mind. Might get her one for Christmas, play the one game I want on it, and then let it sit in her cupboard forever more.

In other news, Xbox360 sales went up majorly, almost 1.5 times more 360's were sold...it's happening folks, true gaming will win.

Look, of course the PS3 sales are up...doubling even, because an enormously popular game was released, though the installment on the PSP sold more in it's first week.
How much are the Wii sales down this week? 9000 units, from 86000, this is less than 12% if I'm not mistaken.

I can't predict the future, so I know what will happen as
much as a random analyst. But to say this is the glorious return of the PS3 and the demise of the Wii is a bit rediculous, don't you think?

(You didn't say that, I know, but you implied as much)

Indeed. Galaxy along with Smash Bros, Bwii, Corruption, Fire Emblem etc etc. *drools* Smilie

edit: Besides, that link really doesn't mean anything. Wii and DS sales ALWAYS fluctuate week to week, yet they still don't drop below 100K and 60K for the DS and Wii respectively. The PS3 rose because of its new game and the price drop (there was one there right?) but that doesn't mean the Wii is about to die. Smilie

Take a look at Wii sales since launch. The system has nearly always managed 60K atleast, but some weeks it is nearing 100K and others it is lower. The same goes for the DS, sometimes it is selling nearly 200K like with a new release and other times it is selling lower. That doesn't mean a bubble is about to burst, and as I've said, it never seems to drop beyond a certain point either.

LOL at that list, Jacob. Smilie 'etc' and 'etc' are the Wii games I'd like to see, other than the sublime Galaxy.
