I play all of the Pokemon games and enjoy them immensely. I have yet to find one of the main games that disappointed. As a connection to the title, I also enjoy many of the typical RPG's that employ real time fighting instead of turn based (don't get me wrong though, I really love TBS games).

This become a talking point with my kids while we were playing Tales of Symphonia and Final Fantasy XII. What if they made a proper Pokemon game but made the battles real time (a bit like the cartoon really). You could have random fights in the forest with multiple pokemon attacking and being allowed to use all 3 Pokemon at once. The same would be in a fight with villianous characters who if you lose, could actually steal your Pokemon, making winning vastly more important than usual.

The same would apply on the Wii with a full 3D game.

SO, anyone else think that this has potential? Anyone else like the idea, or just hate it?

It'd work kinda well Knights of the Old Repbulic style (Ie still turn based, but set up in such a way that it seems real time)

If they miss the opportunity to create something really special and different next time, it will mark a real downturn in the slaes I believe.

Considering the squillions of yen they have made from Pokemon, you would think that they would spend a good number of them, get a big tam together and make the ulmimate Pokemon game - both console and handheld - for all the fans that have supported them.

its about time a different approach to battles was made. The battle system has been the same for 5 generations of portable games and is growing stale and repetitive. Final Fantasy had tweaks made to its battle system every game

I wouldn't like real-time battles to be in the main games, as it would remove the focus on skill and instead you'd have to rely on twitch. It would alienate a lot of players with crap reflexes (i.e. me) and instead let the people who spend most of their time playing twitch games beat everyone.

However, I'd like a spin-off game with real-time battles. If they did it well then I'd certainly buy it, reflexes be damned. It'd be fun to see how it worked. And how all the Pokemon moved.

a pokemon tactics games, where you move the party around the batlefield and then attack (basically Final Fantasy Tactics with pokemon) could be good, and different enough

They could make a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 3D game for the Wii, make it sort of like the Phantasy Star games, and possibly make some money off of it! But it would take a LOT of work with all the attack animations and effects.

I actually believe quite the opposite. (Yes, shocking, I disagree with oldschool blah blah blah) I think little children and fans of the show will continue to buy the games regardless weather or not they make any adjustments to the gameplay or "storyline" at all, Nintendo are counting on that.

Its the same concept as sports games. For example the NBA Live series, but we could use any...I just know alot about the NBA so naturally I use this as an example. Every year a new NBA Live game is made and the "tweaks" are nothing more than slightly improved graphics and an updated roster, yet people still buy the games year after year.

The fact is, imo, companies who produce games like Pokemon, Digimon or sporting games are too afraid to move away from a winning formula and bring fans of the series a experiance...but to be fair, why should they? If the fans enjoy that style of the game then there is no point risking making it worse and alienating the fan base.

Yeah I think the main handheld series will probably stay the same for sometime yet but theres no excuse for the pieces of absolute shite they make on the consoles.

A real time game would be a massive undertaking just imagine creating a set of moves for 400 pokemon! I'd be betting on a lot of clone charchters, unless they based it on the original 150 which would make there lives a bit easier..

I believe that they should give this idea a shot in a seperate game, in case it doesn't go well, they can just keep to the same formula in the main series. Sounds interesting though. Smilie

I think controlling Pokemon in battle real-time would be amazingly fun. The problem is that there'd be so many different ones to program, animate, etc., along with the moves, stats and whatnot. I can dream, though. Smilie

well i don't know about you people, but i wanted more than anything to be able to control mewtwo after i saw the movie, not just from a TBS perspective, but to be able to fight with him in real time, and then ladies and gentlemen i got my wish, 24 hours of multiplayer in ssbm and i got to use mewtwo as a character, however it didn't give the rpg like experience i was looking for, so to answer your question hell yes it would make a good game and this is coming from a 17 yr old

Dude, Magikarp learns Tackle sooner or later, and in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon they have a universal attack with no name and base power.

I really am shocked that Nintendo hasn't made a fully fledged 3D Pokemon RPG on one of its home consoles. Surely that'd be a money printer?

They should get in touch with the Level 5 folks.
