I already explained in the original post ffs. Thanks to circumstances, the fact that it sells papers and its gotten people interested and a few other things (as I mentioned, secrecy and the whole portugal is incomptetant thing) is why theres been prolonged media interest.( Edited on 09.09.2007 01:10 by Modplan Man )

You nailed it with "it sells papers". That is all they care about. They know their readership and exploit that. If her last name was Hussein and her dad Mohammed, they spoke poor English, then that does not sell papers.

Your other on Portugese police is interesting as well. The media beat that up because it sells papers to say that our police - good, Portugese police - fools. It taps into nationalistic superiority (endemic to all countries, but specific in this case).

It is always newspapers/television I have problems with. How often is a story been so ridiculously overblown by them and you switch off. Shane Warne screws some slutty nurse and our papers devote the first pages to it - who cares Smilie That is why I say again - it is not the fault of the parents that you are suffering story fatigue and you sholdn't vent it towrds them. I still fell empathy and sympathy for them - it is a christian thing to do (says the atheistSmilie

Mrs Mcann couldn't have killed her own daughter, I mean it is absolute shite that they are treating her as a suspect.

Why couldn't she? Look at the evidence. It's starting to get overwhelming.

Smell of Dead Bodies on Mother (found by Dogs trained to sniff out dead bodies)
Speck of Blood on walls
Fluid from Madeleine found in hire car (rented 25 days after disappearance, and they rented it one day before leaving to go to the Vatican having done for the rest of the holiday without one)
Mrs McCann washed something which could prove to be vital evidence (she washed her daughters favorite doll)-They could easily have hidden something there
Provided with keys to Church

There is quite a bit of evidence against them now

I never thought about that point, well put.

New evidence: She had a catholic bible open on a page where....david or something kills his son.

How long's it been now? Four months? She's gone, either dead or a sex slave. I really do feel for the parents (if they didn't kill her of course). Leaving their kids on their own while they went to a restaurant was a stupid, selfish thing but the punishment for it will be with them for the rest of their lives. I don't think social services (as some have suggested) should be involved.

Random fact: I was in that chapel in Luz where the McCanns were always seen in the media last month.

Apparently with todays revelation that 20 out of 20 (strains/parts/whatever you call it?) of the DNA found in the boot of the hire car are a perfect match for Madeleines, and other eveidence, there is sufficient evidence to charge the parents. A judge is reading all the evidence to see if it can go to trial.

It seems increasingly more like a case of manslaughter (accidental murder) now...

The more they follow up on this case the more confusing it gets.....

So you think they did it for the money maybe? or they thought of that after their daughter died...- I've heard they have made over 1/2 a million in donations - they bought a house in spain with the money...

The donators must be gutted...that is if it was the parents.

Well that explains it all.

Gods in His Heaven. Alls right in the World.

The most suspicious thing is the fact that all of these DNA samples were found in the car, a while after she was "abducted". To make it worse, they were in the boot of the car which is the stereotypical place to store a dead body if you needed to get rid...

The DNA is not conclusive eveidence of anything. They would have had her DNA all over their items. Contamination of DNA is not unknown.

The main thing I don't understand is the public's desire to blame someone - the parents. How can anyone just say they did it, when they just don't know. Yes, it is fine to have an inclination, but keep it rational. I was amongst the minority who believed Lindy Chamberlain was innocent. It set people against each other in Australia at the time. People were like rabid dogs, making up all sorts of shit to justify their beliefs. I see that the media is now questioning Mrs McCann's use of make-up, always looking good. It is the same thing. No matter what you do, people/media will use anything you do/say and read into it to make the story they want.

The biggest point for me, as a parent, is they were bad and selfish parents (assuming they didn't do it). To leave their children alone like that is just bad. There is a problem to that though - it is extremely common. So many hypocrites out there will be villifying them and have done the same things themselves. I myself have been given a hard time because I won't attend Christmas functions (for work - that require a Motel stayover) and just leave my daughters alone in the room. This happened when they were 7 & 9. I won't do it now at 12 & 14.

Seriously, it is common, but for others, they should say, "there but for the grace of god, go I". Just luck (assuming they didn't kill her).

I am still sticking to my inclinination of innocence. I have yet to see anything to truly undermine it. Generally speaking, we must live by our western laws of innocent until proven guilty, and give them the benefit of the doubt - for the moment.

Sorry for the double post - consider it a bump, to emphasise the current status.

So now a Portugese judge declares that there is insufficient evidence to allow the Portugese police the right to demand the McCanns return. The case against them appears to have been built on a house of cards.

The sniffer dog evidence is deemed worthless, having as much as an 8 out 10 failure rate. The hair could have come any number of people. What do they have left - supposition, presumption, assumption - hardly a case to build on.

I also noticed that the Government Cabinet head of Media Monitoring has quit his high paying job, to work for the McCanns for free and Richard Branson has donated something like 100,000 GBP to the fighting fund. Apparently, they are also in direct contact with Gordon Brown and the Foreign Secretary, David Milband. I doubt that they would take such a risk on a high profile case unless they were convinced of their innocence.

I at least hope that the Portugese are spending their resources on following other leads or paths. It owuld be tragedy if they glued themselves to this one, flimsy possibility.

becomes more intriguing by the day, but I still think that the betting money is on innocence of murder, but odds on favoutite that they made the worst parenting act imaginable.
