Wolverine 6/10

I went with low expectations and found it hard to take seriously. It also has to be mentioned that it has some of the most appalling CGI I've seen in ages. Lots of epic action, however.

Blade Runner
Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner

Both amazing. Blade Runner is my favourite science fiction film of all time.

This could go in "Latest Purchases" too, but I'll just save time and space with one entry:

Grave of the Fireflies - 10/10
Amazing film. I don't usually watch depressive films but this was excellent. Nothing positive happens throughout, and the melancholy really hits you. Great ending scene. Has anyone seen the Live Action adaption or the novel it was based on? I really want to check out the novel, but seeing as it is semi-autobiographical I bet its very emotional.

Perfect Blue - 8/10.

Star Trek - 9/10

I've never really watched Star Trek - but this was incredibly enjoyable. Seriously good stuff, best film I've seen this year. So far. Smilie

Vantage point 4/10~One american man saves the day, the whole vantage point is completly shit as it could be finished in half an hour and only seems to take up pointless time.

The Da Vinci Code 8/10~ Love films along these lines, haven't read the book, it's on my reading list along with angels and demons (Grr movie book covers) good acting, and good story

Wolverine - It passed some time, but Gambit was muck.

Meh, I found that movie not that bad. I mean, my family and I wanted an entertaining movie, so we're not really looking into it that much. I though it was decent and enjoyable.

Star Trek (The old one)

This film shows its age. Really really cheap looking. Still alright though.

Star Trek (The new one)

Really really ridiculously awesome film. And the IMAX-ness was especially lovely.

Serenity

Firefly, but in movie form...how can that be bad?

Sernity was awesome. But maybe I'm saying that because i'm a Joss Wheadon fan Smilie

What's wrong with you people? Wolverine was great! Granted, CG Patrick Stewart was toilet, but everything else was top-drawer nonsense. What more do you want?

Star Trek ****

A top-notch job. The performances ticked all the boxes in every way, it was as slick as you like, and everything looked retro-sleek. But the real genius is the story. Credibly giving the new crew license to take the best bits of the characters but still forge their own path is a mammoth job, but they did it. Its all tied up with a conceit that treats everything that has gone before reverently. If you're geek enough to know anything about Spock's relationship with the Romulans in Next Generation-era and get the myriad references to all the series' then you'll appreciate the great job the writers have done all the more. Everything else is great, but from a fan's point of view, the writers deserve the most credit.

What is it about big spectacle cinema that leaves you feeling so good and infused? Resolute, focused. I think it's the binary nature of it. There's good, there's evil - the choices are easy, no matter what they say in the script. Greyness doesn't trouble the big screen. And those choices lead to immediately evident consequences. People don't bumble and wank away their lives up there, and if they do it's in a montage of comedic juxtaposition or a cut-fade followed by an X years later subtitle.

Less posty, more gamey.

Goodfellas 10/10
Casino 9/10

I've seen both Goodfellas and Casino before but I had a Scorsese double bill yesterday.

Angels & Demons

Fans of the book (of which I'm one) will most likely not find this a faithful adaptation, there is a LOT of stuff omitted, or merely re-assigned. Slightly understandable given that the film-makers had to fit it inside of 2 hours, but if Da Vinci can remain true to its source, there really is little excuse for this.

I will say that the pace of the film was kept at a high because of these ommisions, and as such those who read the book still may be surprised by what happens, so it's a 6/10 from me personally.

Star Trek: Stayed pretty faithful, had some fan service but did not go overboard. Took some of the naff factor out that was present in the original treks, making it more suitable for non-trekkies and trekkies alike. There were cliched moments but that's what you expect from cinema blockbusters like these, especially ones reviving old franchises (see Die Hard and Transformers).

It was surprisingly emotional at times. They did a good job of not making the villain too black-and-white old star treky, there was only one 'villain monologue' in the film. The technobabble talk was limited. The action too was very well done.

All in all, the best Star Trek I've seen. Certainly much better the last one. It's to Star Trek what Batman Begins was to Batman. It makes me proud to be a trekkie.

A logical 4/5 Captain, despite the shite seats that I got for landing in 5mins before screening. As good a Star Trek movie as you could hope for.

Live long and prosper, or should I say, good luck!

In terms of films with great twists, Oldboy > Fight Club and American Psycho.

I'm dreading the remake by Speilberg. How could Will Smith play the lead role? He wouldn't eat the squid and would be making dumbass one liners every minute, especially when when he'd be "keeping it in the family"Smilie

Cubed3 Member

Yeah it's one of the best/most shocking twists in a film i've seen to date.
