AKA \"The complain about Ubisoft\'s treatment of the Wii Thread\"

That screen above is from the Wii game; Dogz 2008. Clearly Ubisoft are keeping their promise of delivering Nintendo quality titles. (For all you who don\'t really care about how Ubi treats Wii, that was sarcasm)

Well, this has mainly been spurred from links and discussions from this recent C3 newsie. I decided a thread about it may be a good idea, seeing as the news post may die down as time passes, and it\'s worthy of forum discussion.

The manager of Ubisoft\'s Official Forums, recently posted his thoughts on the Wii, and \"why\" Ubisoft make such tripe for it, as an alleged \"backlash\" against complaints, saying many absurd things such as:

Why else would games like Brain Training/Wii Fit/Mario Party sell in the millions if people wanted hardcore games?

Quite clearly he is missing the point, as has been mentioned by many members across many forums across the internet since then, including the Ubisoft forums themselves.

Interestingly enough, many members of other forums believe that Ubisoft are actually sending people in to these forums, to sign up and \"promote\" and defend Ubisoft. (So these are the \"Viral Marketers\" you will be hearing of sooner or later. Smilie)

Some links you may want to check out:
C3\'s Newsie - By our very own Phoenixus. Includes rants from various members here.
Ubisoft Forum Thread - Some interesting stuff where it will damage Ubi the most
Discovery of \"Viral Marketers\" Thread on VG Chartz

So what\'s the point of this thread? To continue where the newsie left off, to express your thoughts on Ubisoft and whether you agree, who you agree with etc. And yeah I guess you can talk about Conspiracy theories and stuff too.

Some people see this as a sort of \"war\" by Wii fans against Ubi, so I titled the thread as such.

Any interesting threads, or links anyone finds may be added to the first post.

Hope I didn\'t write too much. ;D

EDIT: Edited title; didn\'t appear properly.

I think he's right, and I've been saying it all along. There's simply no incentive for producing "hardcore" games for the Wii because there are essentially no hardcore gamers who play on the Wii regularly or lack a 360/PS3. Why bother producing games that cost millions and sell to a niche when you can make a game that costs under a million and sells to many more?

The thing is, their "casual" games aren't selling, because even casual gamers can differentiate quality between Nintendogs and Dogz. The funny thing is, Red Steel is on their list of their top selling games, a Wii exclusive. And their games didn't do too badly at all on the GC. The GC's fanbase basically transferred and grew on the Wii.

Ubisoft can make good games, and if Red Stell was more well critically accepted (as in, if it was better) it would have sold far more. Lots of people were going to buy it before they heard it was crappy. Imagine how many sales it would have gotten then?

It's free money. Making games on Wii is cheap, and it doesn't HAVE to be hard, the benefits will outweigh what you lost, but Ubisoft are going about it the completely wrong way.

Mario Galaxy, and Zelda sold VERY well on a casual console. Galaxy is arguably not a hardcore game (I believe it is) but it's still proof of a well advertised and very GOOD game.

I really think what pushed people was the fact BG&E2 was not coming to wii after it's predecessor did the best on the gamecube (It didn't bother me as much because I was going to get it on 360 anyway) out of all the other consoles. What pushed me anyway is the amount of shitware (not shovelware because shovelware looks and plays better) that they were bring to wii. I mean they are literally spitting in our faces.

Why wouldn\'t there be incentive for hardcore games on the Wii? Nintendo may be making the best of the Hardcore type on the console, but you\'d have two things to consider;

1. There really isn\'t anyone else daring enough to attempt better. Sure, studios like High Voltage Software and Platinum games show promise, but unlike major development studios, they can\'t hope to churn out great games at a rate anywhere near Nintendo, so most don\'t even bother trying, like the lazy fools they are.

2. Nintendo can\'t possibly cover all genres that exist with their games. Why can\'t third parties aim to create a brilliant title that fills that void, and capitalizes on it? First Person Shooters for example. The perfect controls from a home console, ideally suited to the genre.

The casual side of the Wii doesn\'t sell more, it\'s the spread of the games on shelves, the Wii Sports Pack-in, and the general ignorance of Wii bashers that created that belief. Both Casual and Hardcore sell equal, look at the Wii million sellers list if you don\'t believe me. 12 casual, 13 Hardcore.

It\'ll be interesting to see how Ubisoft officially respond to all this, my guess is more PR Bullcrap pulled out of their asses.

I personally couldn\'t care what he has to say and what Ubisoft are doing with the Wii and DS. It\'s not like I\'d be missing out on anything if they did make \"Hardcore\" games for the systems. Most of their games these days don\'t interest me at all. Looking back, hardly any of their games have.

If it was a new Rayman adventure or Far Cry coming out, then maybe my views would change, but games like Prince of Persia and Beyond Good & Evil aren\'t my sort of thing anyway.

I understand how other must feel though and hopefully they\'ll change their attitudes towards the system.

Well FarCry! There's an AWFUL Far Cry game on Wii. It doesn't matter if it's not the Wii version you mean, FarCry is an FPS that has been very good on other consoles. Like Phoenixus said, FPS is perfect for Wii, yet Ubisoft release a shoddy port with less than no effort put in. Why is it just the Wii that gets this level of defiance? It's not on. FarCry is meant to be a hardcore game aswell.

I like Ubisoft, the Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six games are excellent and some of my favourites.

From Ubisoft;

From me;

Smilie

To be honest, Ubisoft are getting worse than Engulf Anything (EA) with the constant swarm of gamez endingz in \"z\'s\". Ubisoft tend to pull their finger out on some games such as red steel which was enjoyable, and was the first FPS on the wii and went for something different.

Prince of persia games seem to undulate between being
awesome (sands of time) to being complete utter crap (warrior within) and something in between (Two thrones/Rival swords).

To me, It seems they never put enough effort in, or put alot in if they know they are appealing to a wide market but still usually produce mediocre gamez.

For the wii, Ubisofts outings have been appaling in my opinion other than a few games (raving rabbids was fun to play with freinds, and red steel was a break from formula FPS with revamped controls that felt a little mishapped, but worked) Like superlink said Far Cry Vengence was absoloubtlty rubbish compared to Far Cry, No effort went into it, It seemed to be a spur of the moment money making schemes to bring in possible hardcore farcry fans, who were left seriously dissapointed on loading the disk.

Also, Ubisoft haven\'t invested any money into a \'propper\' rayman game, the last one which was quite good was Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc which would be snapped up eagerly among gamers who are willing to reminice about the hours wasted as children with the limbless hero (I was addicted to rayman gold edition!), and from figures, France would snap it up.

The problem lies with Ubisoft turning a blind eye on what consumers want from a game and focusing and copying what nintendo are doing succesfully, coppying, and failing miserably. Thus, leaving the consumers very bad gamez and making them feel minority, not a very good marketing strategy.

Ubisoft need to get their act together and review the 4 p\'s of marketing strategy (price, product, promotion, place) and possibly employ some more able bodied business minds like me.

p.s. That was my longest post on record!

I think the important question here is..

There's a BG&E2????

Exactly they have total fucked us, the most loyal of fans.

With regards to Ubisoft and BG&E2, It's just like Capcom and Resident Evil 5.

In what way? Did Capcom do something wrong? Smilie

Sorry, should have explained. I meant Ubisoft ignoring the Wii with BG&E2 is the same as Capcom ignoring the Wii with RE5.

Anyway...

ANGRY MOB, ANGRY MOB....ANGRY MOB WITH TREE
Most developers seem to ignore the Wii with games they think are too good for it, and instead of dubbing down the graphics, this infuriates me, The usually gets a very bad spin off that has had no time and effort put into it causing very bad games, They are currenly doing it with Prince of Persia at the moment, making a spin off for the wii whereas Xbox 360 and Ps3 get the full versions. Thank god i have PC.

You've got a point, but it's the whole mentality that at the very least, Capcom are giving us great games, even if we don't get a select few that go for other consoles. After what happened with the whole Capcom 5 fiasco, it was hardly a surprise to see Resi 5 go High Def.

Beyond Good and Evil though, was a prime candidate to see Wii release; The original sold best on a Nintendo Console, the Wiimote controls would've worked exceptionally well with the camera mechanic, and it would have been a low cost, less risky production, which, for the sequel of a game that flopped in sales, would have been perfect for. Not to mention that the audience for the title are mostly on Wii anyway.
Smilie

While I'm sure the companies in question raped my unborn children, I have nothing against the games themselves or the game studios that produce them Smilie

Like I said before. Some of Ubisoft's 6th gen titles performed best on the GC, and the GC's fanbase has been transferred to the Wii, as well as having grown with additional interest. Of course it has more interest. The Wii is a phenominon sales wise, especially compared with the GC.

I don't see why Ubisoft would think that all of GC's hardcore gamers naturally flew to 360. How were we supposed to know the Wii would be a casual haven back in E3 '06? It looked great to everyone. Ubisoft's audience are ON the Wii, and Ubisoft are pissing on their audience without even knowing it.

Early GC ubisoft were decent.

They were still chucking out Rainbox Six on the console when everyone else considered the machine as dead.

Anyone remember "XIII"? GC version apparently ran the best. (I had only ever played PS2 and PC)

Why would I hate Ubisoft? I've had immense fun on many of their games...

Assasins Creed, Splinter CellSmilieA, GRAW 1 and 2 and Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2.

Well this thread is generally about how Ubisoft treats the Wii and their general misunderstanding of the console's demographic.

XIII was pure brilliant, One of the best shooters from Ubisoft. Its a shame they havent kept providing for the wii with quality games for the Wii.

Re-iterating my point, Ubisoft put more effort into those consoles than the Wii, How many of those great games *cough cough* have you seen reproduced for wii?? None, nada, zilch, zero. This is what infuriates me so. They could dub down the graphics like Alone in the dark, What makes a game great is gameplay. For an example there are many many great games on the ds many of them 2D, whereas look at the PSP, there are only a select few compared to the DS library (no offence to PSP owners, Dont rant and rave about great games on the PSP)
The same can be said for the Wii, Even though the XBOX 360 has counltess great games on it, so does the Wii.

Ubisoft just dont think outside the box, or they have gone so far, it is not possible to reach them.

Splinter Cell was reproduced for the Wii but it sucked because to be blunt it\'s not powerful enough for it. [edit] The GameCube could hardly handle Splinter Cell 1... and the Wii isn\'t much more powerfull than that.
