Playing Lemmings Trial Edition on my PS3 Slim and the music is Daft Punk

One thing I don't think the PS3 does very well (in comparison to the 360) is up-scale stuff to 1080p. I had read about this before, and had seen it in PS3 versions of certain games, but it's difficult to really compare two different code-bases. Anyway, today I got a DVD box set through the post (The Cult of Eric Cartman), and decided I'd compare how both units up-scale SD content like this DVD. You can't blame inexperienced developers or anything like that when we're just talking about DVD playback.

Anyway, cut a long story short, there is more aliasing present when watching the same DVD via PS3 than on 360. I tried setting the PS3's DVD playback to smooth as well, it made very little difference. I'm going to do another comparison with a different DVD when I can be bothered, since even on Xbox this one has some unsightly shimmering. I guess they don't put too much effort into South Park DVDs, since South Park looks like crap, anyway.

But yeah, the 360 has a nice dedicated video scaling chip, whereas the PS3 achieves up-scaling via software. Hardware > software.

Sorry for the bump, but whenever I try to get one of those "Portable IDs" for my sig (to go with my XBL banner), I get some bollocks about migrating my account to the EU site or some nonsense, and it says I can't activate my account until I do this. What does this mean? Surely my account is already an EU one? I created it on my PS3 whilst signed into PSN. What gives?

Also - Modern Warefare 2.. should I get this for my 360 or my PS3? I've got the first Modern Warfare on my 360, and World at War on my PS3. I kind of want more PS3 games, but I'm not sure about all this multi-platform lark, since 360 tends to get the better versions. I'm probably going to get Uncharted 2 (once they fix the first game so I can actually fucking play the cunt).

I'd go for 360 - bigger community for Call of Duty and always seems to get more support.

Earth is actually a condensed, re-edited version of the Planet Earth series, going by what I\'ve read. That would indeed make it excellent, as Planet Earth is fucking amazing. I have the Planet Earth box set on DVD. The \'Caves\' episode is one of the best things I\'ve ever seen in my life while stoned. I might re-buy the Planet Earth set on Blu-ray. Documentaries have got to be fucking amazing in HD, and I can\'t wait for Earth and Nature\'s Great Events to arrive!

Oh, and then there\'s the small matter of 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1080p. Jupiter And Beyond The Infinite has got to be completely fucking mind-blowing in HD. I\'m planning on tripping absolute balls when that comes.

Edit: Anyone wanna buy my mint-condition Planet Earth DVD box-set? It only costs £12.99 on Play.com, but mine is in as-new condition, no scratches on the discs. Mint. If anyone fancies it for a tenner (including postage), PM me.

Back on my PS3 regular guys, get you hands on Warhawk if you have some spare money it's my favourte PS3 game and I need to get a clan going.

I'm thinking of getting Battlefield 1943 on my PS3, anyone else here have it? If you fancy a game, I'll get it.

And I have Planet Earth on Blu-ray. It really is a fucking awesome looking documentary in HD. And it was only £20 for the 5 disc set. Bargain!

Edit: £25 now. Still half of the RRP. And worth it for nearly 10 hours of some of the most amazing footage ever captured on film.

I got Battlefield. It's fantastic, to be honest. However, I do lack a PS3 microphone at the moment, and they're so fucking expensive. I hear tell that you can just use any old Blutooth headset on PS3, is this true? I've got Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 coming soon, and online that needs the microphone. By the way, Vegas 2 is only £9.99 on Play.com, if anyone fancies jamming on it with me. They're excellent squad shooters. Slower and more deliberately paced.

I suggest going out and finding either the End War/ Socom headset packs and then selling the game back to game trading store. Cuts the headset cost down by at least $20.

And martin you should invest in Killzone 2, join me and Simez online. The new patch allows squads formed in games to carry over so voice chat stays constant.

As for games to try, i'd recommend giving Valkyria Chronicles a look at. I know a couple of xbox owners that bought a ps3, played uncharted and weren't as excited of it as i was, but thoroughly enjoyed VC. If you don't mind importing, get Demon's Souls off playasia. The Asian/Chinese version comes complete with English voice acting and text.

Other than those, jump mentioned Ratchet and Clank, and Pointflex mentioned warhawk. For PSN store downloads I'd recommend Pixeljunk Monsters foremost, then flOwer, and Fat princess.

I got Uncharted through the post this morning and it's freezing up on the same bit as Martin mentioned. I also downloaded the Sonic Unloeashed Demo and it's jittery, compared the the 360 version.

I may buy some Blu-Rays sometime, if I see any decent films going for cheap. I'll probably get a headset in the future too.

Martin, if you can find a Gamestation that has warhawk, they are selling for £19.56 brand new with a Headset.

Just went back on Uncharted and it's alright now. I've got up to chapter 4 and it hasn't froze once.

I've got a Killzone medal of Valor for being in the top 6%. I've been playing that till 4am, medic class is really helpful to your team, too bad I'm like the only medic at times.

Yeah, haven't played it like a year though. I have all the expansions as well. And I only paid the price of two as well as I bought the double pack the day before the third one was out, and they put it up wrong so I got it a day early.

Don't have a headset as I downloaded it though.

I had that confusion too. All it\'s asking is for you to enter your personal details and if you already have an account on the EU site, you can transfer them across from there.

I have a question too. Does the aiming \'fix\' in Killzone 2 work well?
