What doesn't help is that both the 360 and PS3 are packed into pathetically small cases for the amount of heat they generate. It wouldn't surprise me if my PS3 slim snuffed it.

The latter quote I find dubious, because there have been several models of PS3. The fat design isn\'t just one model. They might all look the same, but some have 90nm CPU and GPU, whilst others have a 90nm CPU and a 65nm GPU, and all sorts of crazy combinations and differences. One would think these differences must equal different operating temperatures and power consumptions.

This begs the question: What actual model of fat PS3 have Sony compared the slim to in order to arrive at those percentages? Was it the very last PS3 fat model? If so - well done Sony. However, Sony are known for giving their statistics, specs, and what have you an extremely liberal dose of artistic license. It would be rather dishonest of them to have pulled those figures by comparing the PS3 slim to the original fat 60GB model, but this may actually have been the case.

Time will tell. If PS3 slims all start dropping dead around the same time - Sony are cunts.

They'll probably use this as a means to completely fuck you over. Console manufacturers are sticklers for the warranty being voided if the seal is broken. Maybe if you're really nice on the phone, and be straight up with them and tell them you just did it to get the game out, maybe they'll let you off.

On the other hand, you're out of warranty anyway, so I personally don't see that it makes any fucking difference whether you opened it up or not. Modifying your console isn't illegal, and you haven't done that anyway. I should hope that they will offer you the same service for the same price as any other person with a fucked PS3 out of warranty.

Did you actually read my post, Jump? Sony's official statement on the subject reveals a 34% reduction in power consumption. Where are you pulling this 50% from? Also, you completely ignored my point about which PS3 fat they were comparing the slim against. 'PS3 fat' is not one single model - there are several, all with different power consumptions, heat generation, etc. We don't know what fat model the slim was compared against to arrive at those percentages.

Also, I know you have difficulties, but do try and write legible English. The opening sentance from that quote is complete gibberish. Makes no sense. I can't even tell what you're trying to say, other than perhaps "No, it is 50%" ..?

Sorry but it is 50% less power from the ps3 fat not every model ok but 50%/34% alot to cut down on.

I'm willing to believe you if you can cite a source. Just where are you getting this "50%" from? Every place I've looked says 34%. Here is the PS3 slim section of the official Sony website. They do unfortunately state that the comparisons are drawn from the original 60GB PS3 fat, not the later ones. I find this to be disheartening, and I now look at my slim with suspicious eyes.

Apparently there's a 250GB Uncharted 2 one coming out in America. I don't know about PAL territories. This would piss me off if the PS3 HDD wasn't so easily upgradeable!

It's true Martin. They have that one, then there's the FFXIII one which you know about and it's going to sell billions. Sony will only ship in the millions but selling billions is quite devastating.
