Rage on PS3

1) America is getting downloads of some cult PS2 games, including GrimGrimoire, Maximo: Ghosts to Glory, Ring of Red, Odin Sphere and God Hand. EU store has their own plans, but haven't said anything more.

2)EU store is getting imported PS1 games which didn't make it here soon, starting with Arc the Lad, Cho Aniki and Sonic Wings Special.

3) Myterious October 5th related video, full of references to PlayStation franchises:

Argh America is getting the full Uncharted 3 multiplayer from specific subways, just for buying a drink >.<

Anyway, Yakuza of the End is coming here! To be called Yakuza: Dead Souls. Still yet to play my Yakuza 3 properly, and waiting for #4 for drop more, but still good to see.

Crysis 1 came out on PSN/XBLA, today. Here's some PS3 footage.

Completed my first Ico playthrough just now (first on PS3). Also downloaded Crysis 1 from PSN, today. Played that for a few hours, too. I've played it on PC, and believe me - everything's there. However, you can tell it's pushing the hardware. It doesn't exactly "look gorgeous" like it can on PC. Muddy textures, less foliage in places, some weird minor graphical glitches, and if the framerate were any worse it'd be in serious "Turok 2 N64 in hi-res mode" territory.

Regardless, it's Crysis on console. It's the same game when you get down to it. All the destruction is there (yes, even the buildings). The levels are not shortened. They have apparently left an unpopular level out from the PC original - Ascension. Not a big deal to me.

I greatly prefer the controls of this remastered version. I find all the different suit powers on PC a mind-fuck to get to when I need to in the thick of a firefight. The suit in Crysis 1 is a lot less powerful (particularly in warding off damage). I found I would die a lot just because I was panicking trying to select invisibility or armour mode or what have you. Not here. On PS3 I've been playing through on Delta (hardest) difficulty, and whilst being challenged massively, I've not been frustrated. It controls just like Crysis 2, and is a lot better for it.

That's not to say that the suit is the one from Crysis 2, it's not. It's the original Crysis 1 suit, just the access to the powers is a lot more common-sense. Instead of having to select speed mode to do a Linford Christie, you just sprint and it activates. Whenever you're not using another suit mode, power mode is on by default (and does not drain battery). So you can bash walls down and stuff without having to select power mode. Just melee and viola. Etc.

Do I prefer it to Crysis 2? Not sure yet. The island setting kind of reminds me of Far Cry 2, but way less annoying. I definitely like the island setting, but I feel PC gods have greatly exaggerated the 'sandbox' nature of the game. It is not a sandbox at all. In fact, the structure of it is nigh on the same as Crysis 2. It's just on an island, not in New York.

Walk for a bit, get radio comms message about enemy camp/stronghold ahead, chose the way in which you want to accomplish objective (guns blazing, tag everyone with binocs and go stealth, etc). There is tons of freedom in how you want to go about an objective, but only in the same way as Crysis 2. The difference is merely in the setting, and I suppose you have more room to manoeuvre. It's still linear.

Great achievement on console, though! I know people with fairly decent PCs, and this game does not look as good as this on their rigs. I wonder if Warhead will come out for console?

Man, I really want a PS3, the amount of stuff on it now is impressive. The game library is now brilliant and continuing to grow!

It does indeed look great. You can get PS3's for really cheap now, £199 for a brand new slim line one or if you care about backwards compatibility you can get the older models second hand from CEX for about £130.

In other news PS Vita just got a western release date for 22nd February 2012.

Totally not watching that Uncharted 3 vid. Only a couple of weeks away now, no point spoiling anything!

But yeah, 160GB PS3 is cheapest at Amazon, £189. Well worth the price now.

Got Fight Night Champion and FIFA11 for cheap today. Unfortunately, FIFA wants an 'Online Pass' code just so that I'm allowed to play it online. It's used, so the code in the box has already been redeemed. Fight Night is new, so it's OK on that one (though still pretty gay).

Taking it back tomorrow for ProEvo. Does anyone know whether Konami does similar bollocks with that game? Just want a cheap footy title to play with a mate online.

Argh. Yellow Light of Death on my PS3. Fuck.

It was playing up the past few days with Movie discs, but I thought games were alright at the very least until Uncharted froze on me. And just now I was booting up P3 when it shut itself off and refuses to reload. Red standby light, then green for 3 secs, then a yellow, and back to a flashing red. Balls.

Might be able to extract the harddrive and persuade Gamestation to put it into another BC PS3, if not I'll have to send it to Sony and that'll probably cost a fair bit.

Bad luck. Mine seems to be getting somewhat tired. I'm just gonna get another one with a much bigger HDD. I'm hanging on for some funky colours.

Me and a mate both bought Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition. In co-op, the game actually kicks ass. Gold Edition is pretty cheap, too (HMV - £15 new). Just unlocked Lost in Nightmares, yet to have access to the other one (or Mercenaries Reunion).

Gutted, Phoenix. Man, if mine wasted on me now with Uncharted 3 I think I'd melt.
