    The goal of this thread is to establish what the members of Cubed3 see as the top 20 games for the Nintendo DS system.

    Thanks to everyone who wrote entries, I think it really helped add a bit of personality to what would otherwise be just a list. If anyone else would like to write some, there are still a few slots open. Smilie

    -Top 20 Must Own Nintendo DS Titles-

    1) Mario Kart DS [93 Points]

    Mario Kart DS represents the pinnacle of racing games on the system. Its perfect controls, balanced gameplay, and hours of longevity through its local and Wifi multiplayer modes make Mario Kart DS the game C3 members ranked highest. If you have a Nintendo DS, you must have Mario Kart. -- Jacob4000

    2) Ace Attorney Series [85 Points]

    Ace Attorney is an excellent little series that for many is a highlight for the DS\' unique selection of games. With a surprisingly in-depth story and a cast full of characters you can\'t help but love, Ace Attorney is a series that must be checked out at all costs. -- Superlink

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [85/100] || Wikipedia

    4) Pokemon Diamond and Pearl [40 Points]

    The fourth mainseries Pokemon game is seen by many as the first worthwhile addition in years. With around 400 Pokemon to catch without trading being necessary, and hours of gameplay after the main story is finished, this is a must have for all gamers who have ever loved Pokemon. -- Superlink

    Ranked By: Superlink, Stulaw, Kevin, ShiptonCraig, Bart, Echoes221, Marzy, Ikana, The Cheese

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [85/100] || Wikipedia

    5) Elite Beat Agents [38.5 Points]

    Elite Beat Agents is a frustratingly addictive game based on the Japanese \'Ouendan\' Series. Icon based rhythm is needed to dance through a wide range of music from Steriograms \'Walkie talkie Man\', to \'Jumping Jack Flash\' by The Rolling Stones. This hilarious game has something for everyone. -- Echoes221

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [87/100] || Wikipedia

    6) The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass [37.5 Points]

    The Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass puts to excellent use nearly every aspect of the unique DS hardware, while at the same time delivering a Zelda adventure that does the series justice. If you like good games, what are you waiting for? -- Jacob4000

    Ranked By: Jacob4000, Keven, Stulaw, Echoes221, ShiptonCraig, Ikana, Kangaroo_kid, The Cheese

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [90/100] || Wikipedia

    7) Chrono Trigger [35 Points]

    What may seem a lazy port in the light of recent Final Fantasy remakes, Square Enix thought right to make Chrono Trigger DS a perfect re-imagining of the original game. The whole package is complete with a solid story, a spine tingling soundtrack and Toriyama\'s classic artwork. Even if classic JRPG gameplay isn\'t your cup of tea, you\'d be missing out if you didn\'t give this a chance. -- ShiptonCraig

    Ranked By: Superlink, ShiptonCraig, Tim~tam, Falcon Armour X

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [94/100] || Wikipedia

    8) Hotel Dusk: Room 215 [34.5 Points]

    Hotel Dusk is a point-and-click game that makes good use of the DS\'s two screens. The game involves puzzle solving (most puzzles are clever yet intuitive) and charming information from guests (this requires instinct- one mistake means game over). The storyline is relatively strong and although a little slow to start, it\'s not long until you\'re hooked. -- The Cheese

    Ranked By: Jambo, mage_mccloud, The Cheese, Kangaroo_Kid

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [78/100] || Wikipedia

    9) New Super Mario Bros. [31 Points]

    New Super Mario Bros. brings a fresh new feel to the classic Mario platformer and takes it to levels where it\'s never been before. The 2.5D graphics (3D character on a 2D world) give the game a modern look, yet still retains the old-school side-scrolling feel to it. With 240 Stars to collect, it\'s a game that provides challenge and will not soon be put down.
    --Keven

    Ranked By: Jacob4000, Keven, Stulaw, Jambo, The Cheese, Falcon Armour X

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [89/100] || Wikipedia

    10) Animal Crossing: Wild World [29.5 Points]

    Create yourself a second life in your own miniature town and interact with a variety of different animal friends. -- Marzy

    Ranked By: Jacob4000, Marzy, Keven, Echoes221, ShiptonCraig, Ikana,

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [86/100] || Wikipedia

    11) Sonic Rush Series [29.5 Points]

    Sonic and co return to their roots for his 2.5D adventure, running between both screens at incredible speeds courtesy of the all new boost system. The courses offer a wide variety and the bosses are bigger than ever and with the addition of a new character blaze, Are your reflexes quick enough to handle the pace? -- Echoes221

    Games: Sonic Rush || Sonic Rush Adventure

    Ranked By: ShiptonCraig, Superlink, Jambo, Flynnie, Super_sonic, The Cheese, Falcon Armour X

    Links: Cubed3 GamePages: 1 2 || Metacritic || Wikipedia

    12) Advance Wars Series [28 Points]

    The DS Advance Wars games build on the addictive turn-based strategy of their predecessors. Dual Strike\'s new tweaks keep the gameplay familiar but fresh, and the amount of content is rather staggering. Dark Conflict removes some content, but also cuts out the unneeded gimmicks and features an excellent online play to beef it up -- The Cheese

    Games: Advance Wars: Dual Strike || Advance Wars: Days of Ruin/Dark Conflict

    Ranked By: Jacob4000, ShiptonCraig, The Cheese, Kangaroo_Kid

    Links: Cubed3 GamePages: 1 2 || Metacritic || Wikipedia

    13) Professor Layton and the Curious Village [27 Points]

    Well over a hundred great puzzles, wrapped up in an engaging story and presented through fantastic studio Ghibli-like cutscenes make Prof Layton and the Curious Village one of the essential purchases for Nintendo DS. I\'ve yet to hear from anyone who didn\'t like it in some way or another, although your mentally deficient brother may have some difficulty finding the hint coins. Even then though, he can still appreciate the music and excellent voice acting, I\'m sure. -- Bart

    Ranked By: Bart, Echoes221, Jambo, mage_mccloud,

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [85/100] || Wikipedia

    14) Jump Ultimate Stars [25 Points]

    Jump Ultimate Stars is a 2D brawler derived from Shonen Jump\'s manga. It supports an impressive character roster, as well as a wide variety of impressive levels. Ultimate stars is highly addictive and can be hailed as the \'Smash Bros\' on the DS. It will always have you coming back for more! -- Echoes221

    Ranked By: Echoes221, Ikana, Flynnie,

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [89/100] || Wikipedia

    15) Metroid Prime: Hunters [21 Points]

    No-one expected a story mode that would rival the Metroid Prime games on the GC and the result of said story mode is not a surprise. What really makes Metroid Prime Hunters is it\'s multiplayer and wifi capabilities. While the game no longer represents the pinnacle of the WFC service, as on release, you won\'t find another FPS as complete as this on the DS. -- ShiptonCraig

    Ranked By: Jacob4000, Echoes221, Marzy, ShiptonCraig, Flynnie

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [85/100] || Wikipedia

    16) Super Mario 64 DS [20.5 Points]

    Ranked By: Ikana, Kangaroo_Kid

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [89/100] || Wikipedia

    18) Rhythm Tengoku Gold [17 Points]

    Tap, flick and scribble to the rhythm of the music, in tons of wacky styled minigames, from the developers of the WarioWare series. -- Marzy

    Ranked By: Marzy, Echoes221

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [xx/100] || Wikipedia

    19) Another Code [17 Points]

    Another Code is a point-and-click style adventure game filled with clever puzzles that make ingenious use of the DS hardware. Though short, Another Code is a fantastic game that sports an intriguing storyline and interesting characters. Well worth the purchase if you\'ve yet to play it and enjoy similar games such as Hotel Dusk and Ace Attorney. -- Ikana

    Ranked By: Marzy, Ikana, mage_mccloud,

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [70/100] || Wikipedia

    20) Final Fantasy III [13.5 Points]

    No entry, volunteer! PM me a 50 word entry.

    Ranked By: Stulaw, ShiptonCraig, Superlink, Jambo,

    Links: Cubed3 GamePage || Metacritic [70/100] || Wikipedia

    Note on Rankings:

    Games were assigned points based on rankings from members. Every first place rankings earns a game 10 points, with every ranking past that earning one less point. If you ranked more than 10 games, I gave every game past rank ten .5. In some cases, multiple games from a series were combined to avoid somewhat redundant entries (i.e. Advance Wars, Ace Attorney).

    Sonic Rush was changed to 11th, because it had the same member score as Animal Crossing, yet a lower metacritic score. I didn\'t do it to spite you SuperLink. Smilie

    This is a great idea, but it\'s gonna be really hard, especially since my opinions fluctuate depending on the genre I\'m most into. Right now it\'d be RPGs but at another time and place it\'ll be platformers. I\'ll give it a go based on my current state of mind though.

    1. Ace Attorney (I don\'t want to list them all so I\'ll stick them under the series title if that\'s OK... but basically collectively they\'re my fave DS game)
    2. Pokémon Diamond
    3. Mario Kart DS
    4. Final Fantasy IV
    5. Sonic Rush
    6. Chrono Trigger
    7. Final Fantasy III
    8. Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness
    9. Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia
    10. Super Mario 64 DS

    I\'ll throw in a few honourable mentions

    - Sonic Rush Adventure
    - Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood
    - Rune Factory
    - WarioWare Touched!
    - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates
    - Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
    - Kirby Squeak Squad

    I\'m thinking of doing the rankings like that for Ace Attorney -- because they\'re sort of one must own game really.

    Can this be the general DS appreciation thread too?

    Every time the Wii pisses me off, a new great DS game comes out that lasts me ages, and I remember why I love Nintendo. I have no idea what went wrong with the Wii, but I think the DS is easily one of the best consoles ever made, whether it\'s to do with the hardware that attracted the shitload of games, or whether it\'s just pure luck. Every few months, a new DS game is announced that utterly shocks me in terms of visuals, recently we\'ve had FFIV released, and soon we\'re getting the amazing looking Kingdom Hearts, packed to the brim with FMV, as well as Phantasy Star Zero, which I\'m considering getting even if the gameplay isn\'t great, just because the visuals are so impressive.

    I say if you don\'t like/love the DS, then maybe handheld gaming just isn\'t for you, or maybe you need to lower your standards a little and let yourself enjoy all the \"good-great\" games aswell, \'cos I feel the DS is the true PS2 of this gen.

    Can this be the general DS appreciation thread too?

    Sure!

    I'd say there's only one thing about the DS that I don't like -- Nintendo gimped online play. Other than that though, the system is a BEAST.
