Well I thought it is about time to create one of these threads as we seem to have an increasing ammount of people with various problems *cough* such as \"Memory card stuck\" or \"Hairpin in Wii\" Syndrome.
I thought this would be nice just to clean up the forum a little bit, everyone can just post their problems be it life or material and we can have everyone pitch in their own answers whether they are sarcastic or generally helpfull!

Go on, lend a helping hand

I'll get the ball rolling.

I have a torrented version of Photoshop, if I accept updates it keeps reminding me about will I be arrested by the internet police?

I have *that* version of CS3 and I update sometimes but not all the time, No problems so far. It's down to the Key code, if there are tonnes of peeps using one code then it's probably more likely + They will more likely get you for movies than software...though it does cost +£500 for PS...
Don't update!

While there's no real reason to keep updating, you're more likely to have "internet police" problems if you send error reports from crashes etc, so don't error report cracked programs! I'm personally not really sure about updates though.

Most likly it would disable the programe, doubt you would have any trouble with \"internet police\", unless you where caught uploading it from the torrent, thats a more serious offense I think but even thats unlikly.

Adobe are probably more concerned about buisness\' using cracked versions of there software rather than an individual (who more than likely will end up learning how to use it and may provide them with buisness in the future)

Right, my nephew\'s laptop won\'t load DVDs or CDs anymore. The tray spins then stops, so everything sounds normal, but there\'s no DVD drive in \"My Computer\". He\'s got Window\'s Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1 on a Toshiba Equium L40 - 156. Any ideas of what the problem may be?

( Edited 11.04.2009 20:23 by Angus )

Well, there may be a faulty connection between the drive and the laptop. CD drives are easy to remove from laptops, there will be 1 or 2 screws, the pull it out, blow on the connectors and try again. Because there is no DVD drive in my computer that may be the problem as DVD drives don\'t need drivers, just to be connected is enough....he might of messed with the bios however...ask him to check but it is probably a connection problem or a faulty disk drive as there is power going to it because it\'s spins ect.

Thanks man, I shall try opening it and reconnecting it.

I also checked the device status and it says:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

The "Check for solutions" provides no solutions, as you'd expect. And the "update driver" doesn't work so maybe something is disconnected.

Anyways, take my last star of the week for your troubles.Smilie

Disk drives don't need drivers strangely enough, there shoudl be a screw at the back, and then you can simply pull the drive out of the laptop, clean the connectors and try again, shouldn't happen, but shit happens.

Its cool. I found a forum by searching the driver name and that code and found out I had to delete two corrupt references in the registry. Its all fixed now. Thanks nonetheless!

Stickied. It's a good idea to have a thread like this. Smilie

WLM is sending me random messages from offline contacts. Is anyone else noticing this?

Nope, but it has happened in the past. The guy who kept sending me messages had a virus. It seems to have gone now though.

Here's one to ponder over. I'm yet to take my laptop in for repairs and whatnot as I need to write my essays, but...

The Aiport/wireless on my three year old Macbook cuts out after about 30/40 minutes of use and wont work anymore unless I'm sat in the same room as the wireless router. Also, the battery is dead and wont charge/isn't recognised.

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

So what are you asking? how to fix the Airport and the battery? They both seem to be internal problems, and seems to be on it\'s last legs. Apple should fix it for you

Most likely their MSN (whoever is sending the messages) Has been hacked by a Virus. They need to run some virus scans etc and change the password for their MSN, It is also a good idea to change other passwords associated with MSN i.e. Hotmail. My freind had to completly wipe her computer to get rid of the Virus

Hi all.

My Xbox has quick working. When I turn it on, I get one of the red lights and the screen says it's Error 73 (googling around says error 73 is some problem with the ethernet port). This shouldn't be confused with Error 74, the one involving the new dashboard, nor is it the red ring of death.

My warranty is gone, so the question is how do fix this thing? Is it even possible? From my searches, the only solutions I've found are dodgy and most are temporary anyway.
I think it costs $100 to send it to Microsoft since the warranty is up.

I'm honestly not really expecting any answers, but I figured it doesn't hurt to give it a try.

Do what I'm in the process of doing myself. Claim it has three-red rings (so its free and covered by the extended three year warranty) and send it off anyway. Apparently lots of people have done it and got away with it, they either don't check them before they replace it/repair the basic components or maybe unofficialy people down there have just accepted its criminal to be charging people for long-standing faults with the system that have nothing to do with the customer.

Either way, you win. Smilie

I just updated to Firefox 3.5 and there is one problem that is REALLY bugging me. It makes tab browsing an absolute nightmare compared to what I\'m used to.

Usually in the past, when I clicked on a tab twice, it would \"highlight/select\", and I could use the arrow keys to change which tab I was viewing. Now on 3.5, it doesn\'t do that, and I have no idea why.

If I can\'t fix it I\'d rather just downgrade, even if FF3.5 is faster =_=

Help?
