Bump.
Geez C3 why do you hate good games so much ;_;
I'm on 232 Stars! Only 10 away from completion!
I'm on the final stretch, and I'm sure it's only going to get tougher from here.... wish me luck. ^^
I've enjoyed almost every moment with this game, it will probably end up being one of my favourite video games EVAR.
Those of you who don't have it are sorely missing out.
Unless you didn't like SMG1, in which case you won't like this either.

I have only played the first SMG, and I thought it was really good. The controls were just fine for me and everything. Although the previews for the 2nd one did make the game look pretty awesome. I have a feeling I should get this game soon.

I'm on 62 stars, at world 5. Still loving it, but it;s just finding the time to play it now

Just got home and had a quick blast. Great fun. I've only got a star or two so far so I haven't seen anything that new or challenging, I suppose I can really only comment on the charm of Yoshi and the nice opening.

@ Squidboy:
Yes.
Just about to try it now.

I've noticed that most people don't start really enjoying SMG2 until about a world or so in, the first few stages people think "well this seems ok but I wonder what all the fuss is abou-" and then a little later you're like "HOLY SHIT THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME" and then you're like "OH MY GOD I'M THE MOTHERFUCKING FIST OF THE NORTH STAR JESUS CHRIST". Fuck yes you are the best Mario game ever!
Which has been pretty much the case for atleast 10 people I know, my brother included.
BUMP.
YES! I DID IT!

Oh god that was one of the toughest things I've ever had to do in gaming...

Yeah that's pretty much the case. I'm about 10 stars in. Suddenly the awesomeness seemed to click with a few impressive things. The level where the saws are cutting up the enviroment before Mario, the Yoshi chili pepper thing, the first 2D/3D/Overhead switch - things just started getting better and better. ![]()

I do not have this game, but my friend does, he brought it over, I just completely HATED the beginning, they should give a little more back story, they should have him go to some kind of different observatory, not a little small planet, but other than the beginning, its a good game.

Just started playing, I have 2 stars.
I enjoyed the first Mario Galaxy, but not as much as most other people. Only bothered to get 90-something stars, I think. Liking Galaxy 2 so far, though I'm barely into it.
Yoshi is pretty nice to use. ^_^

Now on 82 stars, and defeated the final boss. Some of the stars are quite tough to get as well, after initailly finding it pretty easy
Going back through to all the galaxies I completely missed out on and getting stars there etc, as well as trying all the prankster stars as well. Overall, enjoying the game muchly. Initiail completion time was 16 hours, and that was only at the minimum to get to the boss

106 stars so far, not doing to badly, finding the comet medlas is preaty tough.

123 stars. Loved every bit. Some parts frustrated the hell out of me like the bird flying parts which are the only parts of the game I wish they had not bothered with as the flying controls are so crap.
Just got green stars to get now. ![]()

I'm now about 20 stars in and the 'holy crap that's awesome' moments have continued. I feel like I've already seen more innovation in a fragment of Galaxy 2 then I saw across the whole of Galaxy 1. I guess the original was all about the gravity concept itself, which is really impressive. But I'm thankful Ninty created a sequel (which I wasn't sure was going to happen) because they seemed to have pushed the boat out in various different ways.
I'm curious, do they find new ways to really impress you throughout the game or does it slowly start to feel pretty similar?

Whereas in SMG2, it's just pure platforming, and it makes the very best of all that SMG had to offer, gravity, gimmicks, the lot.
Despite all my previous pessimism I'm glad to admit that I prefer it to the first game, even if it doesn't give me the initial awe SMG1 did, it makes up with genius stage design.

just started collecting the green stars last night, up to 124 stars in total. i may take my time with these green stars, make the game pan out a bit.

I'm up to 102 stars, at the moment. I haven't played it very much over the last week and it hasn't helped that I'm out of batteries all the time.
It'll be nice to finally get back to it, when I get the chance.

Bump
I got 120 stars last night and I've been going through the Green Stars this morning. altogether, I'm up to 150 stars now.
One thing I do think the game would have benefited from is a 'Restart Level' option. There's been times where I know I can't complete a level, so I either have to commit suicide or quit out to Starship Mario, which is inconvenient and slow.
What's everyone's favourite Galaxies?
Mine are:
Hightail Falls
Melty Monster
Space Storm
Fluffy Bluff
All the Bowser Stages

I'm not fully sure, I'll have to play some of the game again.
Slimy Spring Galaxy
Melty Monster Galaxy
Most of the Bowser stages
Probably some that I missed. I'll update later.

I'm 50 stars in and I'm convinced I love this more than Mario 64. The 3D step up in that was a massive wow which probably can't be replicated again through any graphics-related means. But in Galaxy 2 all of those little level innovations seem to gel together into that 'holy crap this be awesome' feeling.
Sunshine didn't really do that - fludd got a bit of a wtf type of reaction. Galaxy was of course, very impressive but after the initial wow of the gravity thing I just felt it was missing a little something extra. But Galaxy 2 has the perfect balance of charm, consistent innovation and well, pure Mario platforming.
I also think the lack of a hub goes a long way to getting rid of the frustration when dealing with a difficult star. In Galaxy 1, I was dying a lot trying to get a star and ended up getting booted into the hub - it would annoy me so much that I'd usually switch the system off straight away.

I enjoyed it more than Galaxy 1. finished it last week, currently only got a few green stars, not really much fun there....
Anyway, while the mechanics are generally great, there were quite a few things that drop this down from perfect significantly. The flying levels for one were just dreadful, and Mario is extremely buggy when grabbing onto platforms that CAN move, even if they're still. For example, on the level with the blue and red blocks you wall jump up, I failed 3 TIMES because Mario glitched up at the top and fell off when he grabbed.
I want them to go back to a Mario 64/ Sunshine style of game so badly right now. I hope they don't continue with linear platformers.
Oh and, the amount of crap that comes up after you finish each level....talk about artificial lengthening...
At the end of the day, for me there are countless moments in Sunshine and 64 that I fondly remember. On the contrary, both Galaxy's had very little for me to remember because it's pure down to basics platforming, with very little else. Maybe that's a good thing for some people, but I'd rather have some more 'interesting' things to do if that makes any sense. I mean, take the delivering of the baby penguin in 64, there's nothing like that in Galaxy at all.

Most people should be able to get the 70 stars required to finish the game, but to get 120 stars you have to try quite a lot harder. They should offer another final boss though for the 120 stars completion.
Mod Edit: No advertising thanks. You've been warned.

Damn fun game and I've really been enjoying it, between this, my PC and Demons Souls it's been taking up far too much of my time over the past couple of weeks.

Finally collected all the stars. My death count was 478 am i just rubbish or did others have similar death counts oh and i did not use one continue which i think shows how easy it is to get lives on this game.
