There, I said it.

I've gotten flak over this for so many years, but the fact is I thought Mario Sunshine was a stellar title and that the implementation of FLUDD was awkward at first and then became totally second nature. To the point where when you went into those "retro" levels where you didn't have it, you felt crippled, felt inadequate.

I know it might be a lot to ask, but is there anyone else that liked Super Mario Sunshine too? And if not, be cool and tell us why!

I really liked sunshine, the levels without FLUDD were quite challenging. And princess peach wasn't kidnapped untill a few levels in, which made a change. Plus, i liked that they tried something new with FLUDD.

The graphics were good, and overall it has a nice level of challenge. I still haven't got all the stars. But i'm thinking that I might try and get the rest soon.

Like I said in the other thread, I really liked the expanded story and voice acting, I wish they'd do it more often.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Mario Sunshine, but it is far from being one of my favourite Mario games, let alone one of my all time favourites. Lots of things contributed to this I guess, frustrating missions, worlds that were annoying to traverse, not the greatest music, and no Green Yoshi. D:

Twas a good game, I agree with Superlink on the worlds that were annoying to travers like that one that was just a big square and some frustrating missions like Yoshis fruit adventure and that one in the theme park.
I think if they had tested it somewhat longer those could've been stripped or remade.

Story was really weak, so only tolerable if you're really bored and in a mood like 'I don't care I'll just lie here and watch the rerun of that 70s show'.

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is THE gamecube platformer though. Just pure fun.

Was better than Galaxy.

Maybe, but Uncharted 2 beats all.

I second the disappointment that was no Green Yosh, and the fact he couldn\'t swim =/

But I really do love Sunshine. The levels were very interesting places, and managed to be fun despite the world being always sunny. It was a shame we didn\'t get ice, desert or fire levels but the game managed to be fun that it didn\'t matter too much.

The graphics really showed what the GameCube could do too. The water effects had to be good because of how much the game focused on using water, but they weren\'t just good, they were brilliant and beautiful. I loved the paint too, and how it would stick to Mario, and how you could wash it off in the water.

All these neat little touches showed what a capable little machine the GC was. Certain textures on the land did look very N64-like unfortunately, but for the most part, Sunshine had some of the best graphics on the GC.

It was a very challenging game too. Loved the Mario Bros-like bonus levels. Getting to the end without falling off was a real thrill on some of the later stages. The difficulty was something to be admired in the game.

Sadly, I disliked the end boss battle as it was way too easy, and the reward for getting all the shines was dire. The blue coins were hidden in some truly unbelievable places too, leading me to believe the only way to get them all was by using a guide (but this of course added to the challenge in a different way).

Overall, SMS was a solid sequel to Mario 64, and a fantastic game in its own right.

The only 3D Mario that I didn't get all 120 shinies on. Smilie

Quality fucking tits?

Definitely need to hook up my Gamecube and complete that game I reckon. Awesome!

Tis my favourite 3D Mario. Smilie I just love Delfino Island, the soundtrack and the story. Perfect! Smilie

I loved Super Mario Sunshine.

It would definitely be in my top ten of gamecube games. I loved the boss fights, and boss fight are usually the parts of games I dislike the most.

I loved Luigi's Mansion too, even though it was really short and not the usual mario bros kind of game.

Galaxy is better in every way possible.

Couldn't get past the horrible camera.

It wasn't a bad game, but to say its better than Galaxy is mind blowing! Galaxy was so unbelievably polished in every single way. Sunshine didn't feel finished.

Great, now I miss Toonami again... Smilie

Overall, twas a great game, but it seems to me that everyone pretty much stopped playing at the same point in time - the point where you get access to the amusement park. It pretty much becomes balls hard from there.

The whole atmosphere of the game really sold it for me. I just love the idea of a tropical island, and you being able to explore it and basically play the game on it. Good stuff!

I loved the game.

As with all Mario titles, the game itself was polished and the atmosphere something that you just wont find anywhere else.

The camera could have been far better and some of the challenges seemed rather poorly thought through (Yoshi with his Pigging fruit!)

But all in all it was an experience I savoured and will never forget, surely that makes it a fab title. If not the industry changing step forward that we all craved.

...Galaxy on the other hand ;-Smilie

May you be in heaven for half an hour before the devil knows you are dead.

Yes I know the amusement park was incredibly hard, but I actually liked the overall challenge. And no I don't think that the camera was as good Mario 64, but saying Sunshine wasn't polished is ridiculous. It's a Mario game! It was extremely polished, and the things they introduced weren't as groundbreaking as Mario 64, but were just as much fun!

I wouldn't say its unpolished, but it definitely wasn't Nintendo Standard. With an essentially broken camera, somewhat frequent framerate dips, and a difficulty curve that was inconsistent, I think it was an undercooked game.

The camera sapped a lot of the fun out of it for me. Having to fight it and play the game was a major irritation. I could have enjoyed it a lot more otherwise.

I don't understand how the camera is bad. I have near enough no problems with it. Smilie

Mario 64, on the other hand, (I've only played on VC with Gamecube pad) has a horrible camera that almost ruined the game for me. The camera alone is what makes this my least favourite Super Mario game. It just seemed to fight me at the most inconveniant of times.

Mario Galaxy had fixed cameras with the odd adjustable section. For the most part it worked but there were a number of times that I hated not being able to move it.

Out of the 3, I'd easily pick Sunshine as being the most comfortable to play. This is all my opinion of course so don't hate me. Smilie

Delfino Plaza > Peach's Castle > Peach Clone's SpaceShip Smilie

Too late Wayne, HATE. Smilie

I agree that Mario 64 and Sunshine's cameras were equally bad. The difference is that Mario 64 was designed better around that limitation, whereas in Sunshine half the levels seemed to ignore the fact that the camera would very easily get stuck.

I agree that the Spaceship thing in Galaxy was slightly lame though. It fit in with the theme well enough, but it was just a worse hub than the other games had.

I didn\'t mind the hub in Galaxy to be honest. I know there wern\'t any secrets to be found. But at least you could get to the mission really quickly as soon as you boot up the game.

I don't know why it's suddenly become cool to like Mario Sunshine more than Galaxy. Sunshine relied on over zealously colourful graphics and somewhat of a gimmick (FLUDD) for it's value. Galaxy relied on pure impeccable level design, ingenuity and being way more beautiful both visually and aurally than sunshine. Sunshine was just a bit charmless.

But Sunshine wasn't a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, mind you.

Dude yuor totally awesome. And i won't be killing you anytime soon.

I kind of liked SMS's camera. You see, I like to control the camera while I play to give me the best viewpoint in completing a certain challenge, I didn't understand all the hate for it.

Sunshine was the first 3D Mario I played so nostalgia plays a part in my love for it.

Delphino Island was just perfect IMO. The way the levels were all built around the sunny island resort with the theme parks, hotels and docks etc made playing through each area really fun. It just seemed a better format than the pictures in 64 and the random levels in galaxies.
