Favorite Horror Films

Superlink and I have been talking about some (hopefully) fun Halloween discussion to have over the weekend. So this is the first in what will be a small series of fun topics around this general theme.

So around this time of year I generally start mixing a steady stream of horror films into my netflix rotation. What'd be your favorites? Are you one of those people who can't stand any sort of horror film? Discuss!

I love horror films and grew up watching quite a lot of horror.

Halloween (the original) is my favourite horror film of all-time, followed closely by Dawn of the Dead (the original).

The most scariest horror film I\'ve ever seen was Candyman. I feel like I can\'t watch it again.

Never seen Candyman, but I've heard things. Scary things.

My favorite horror film would have to be The Shining (which also happens to be my favorite horror book). Its just so awesome. Even though the book is ten times better.

Scariest for me would have to be the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Something that attacks you through your dreams? Terrifying.

Favourite horror film so far has to be Noroi (the curse) It doesn't feed you the story and comes in the form of a documentary and has a really creepy ending. It lets you come up with your own ending, but it's worth a watch definately.

I've only seen one Japanese horror, and it was just the Japanese version of The Ring. Wasn't overly impressed, but one film isn't enough to judge.

I watched Candyman when I was little, and pretty much screamed my tits off all the way through it. Watched it again a month ago, and it didn't hold up to my memories. Still a jokes little film, but it no longer scares me at all.

I generally love Horror movies; something to get the blood pumping and the goosebumps to pop up. One I couldn\'t finish though, was The Descent. That film creeped the hell out of me.

It's Thai, not Japanese...you racist

I'm not the biggest horror fan as most don't scare me. I like The Shining but, as Jacob said, the book is far superior. I also like some Asian horror. Personally though I prefer Horror books such as Stephen King and Koji Suzuki. The trilogy of "Ring" books is so much better as is "It" which I've just started.

Horror movies are great, but the only movie that really scared me was 'Visitors'...something like that at least. It was about a women who got abducted by aliens, the scary grey kind.
The scene where she is awake at 4:00 in the night, and looks out of the window with those creepy aliens just standing there looking at her. Fuck, that impressed me a lot.
I still think of that movie when I awaken in the middle of the night and look at the time.

I'm actually just getting into Stephen King, and I'm loving his work. Shining was fantastic, and Salem's Lot -- once it finally got going after 200 pages or so -- was good as well. I just finished the Talisman last weekend, which although not a really a horror, is another solid book.

After I finish Black House (sequel to the Talisman) I want to read Pet Cemetery, which is apparently one of the scariest books ever.

I remember commercials for that, but I think it was the American version which looked crappy.

I'll have to see the Thai version though.

Also watch a film called Alone, I heard it's scarier than Shutter. It's an Eastern film too.

Stephen King actually wasn't a fan of Kubrick's film adaptation. He's probably just all butt-hurt because it's better than the book.

I may try and watch it again, now that I'm older.

I'm not really sure if you would say the Saw series is horror. But I like watching those. Other movies are cool too though.
