First screens of Street Fighter IV on iPhone. I hope there's a PSP version in the works also. Nakky mentioned in her last update on he Japanese Super blog that most of the SF4 team want a PSP version.

It looks good for what it is.

Capcom just trolled Wii owners so fucking hard.

Cubed3 Member

It looks quite good, but I can't see it being very easy to control in the heat of the battle.

Cubed3 Member

The iPhone isn't a real game system. So there.

It requires great courage to look at oneself honestly, and forge one's own path.

I know right? Ever since SFIV came out, Capcom just felt like saying "yo guys a Wii version is still possible y'know", but instead of doing that they randomly decided to release it on one of the weakest/niche "systems" on the market.

Heck it's hardly even a system. Still, it looks pretty impressive running on a tiny phone/mp3 player.

Not even DS or PSP. at least you have buttons to work with.

fighting games suck on handheld though. the only handheld that had fun fighting games was the neo geo pocket.

Street Fighter has to be one of the most ported series out there.

Cubed3 Member

I'm suprised they haven't put Streetfighter IV on the PSP, DS and Wii. Streetfighter II was ported to everything, even the Gameboy and ZX spectrum.

Cubed3 Member

Saw this on Kotaku and the comments are filled with Wii owners who were pretty pissed at this.

This will become a more regular occurance though, I've said it for a while now but in the eyes of devs and publishers the iPhone/iPod is the premier place for portable and casual gaming.

Also...it does look pretty goddamn nice! Buttons aside the fact they are using real assets from the console game is impressive.

Cubed3 Member

For an iphone game, it looks pretty impressive. Wii owners should just get Tatsunuko vs capcom instead xD

It is quite offensive, considering Wii could obviously handle some kind of version of SFIV in the impressive Tatsunoko engine (which isn't the same as the SFIV engine, no matter what ONM have recently written). I'm not usually one of these people that says 'blah blah belongs on X system' - I'm a multiformat gamer, I don't particularly care what system something turns up on as long as I can play what I want to play - but I think Capcom are missing a massive trick in skipping Wii with the Street Fighter series.

What's the most well-known fighting series in the world? Street Fighter! What's one of those games that everybody remembers, whether they've quit gaming since the 16-bit days or not? Street Fighter II! What's the system that has sold the most and has probably brought some of those old gamers back in to an extent? Wii! It's a perfect match, so Lord knows what they're playing at. Tatsunoko is an excellent substitute, but it just doesn't make sense to completely skip over Wii with Street Fighter when it's been proven that Capcom are more than capable of getting beautiful visuals out of the system that would do a graphically-downgraded port justice.

It looks great for what it is. The iPhone shocks me once again, though I wouldn't want to play it on a touch screen personally.

It's far from a perfect match. Look at 3rd party sales numbers on the Wii. At the end of the day it's a business and it's gotten to the point for so many developers that it's simply not worth the effort for a 40 thousand or so sales.

There is no way that the game could handle the Wii. I think that if you want SF games just go on XBLMP or the VC they have the best in the series. SFIV is not that good a game.

Ok. I could play on the Wii but I think the graphics would have be turned down. But since this is Capcom, I don't think this will ever see a Wii day.

SFIV is an awesome game, what's wrong with it?

Anyways I hope this get's ported to the DS, there hasn't been a good fighting game on the DS for a while.

It was ok but it did not have the gameplay value that I thought the other games had. The good thing about it was online but there were loads of spammers. Plus some of the AI characters needed to beaten using noob tricks. But that is just what I thought of the game.

I know it's your own opinion but the gameplay is exactly the same as any street fighter game, and there are also plenty more modes so there's far more value there. I'll agree with you on the AI, Seth is a pain in the ass to beat Smilie
Overall the game is pretty good but I prefer games like tekken 6 and Tatsunuko vs Capcom instead.

I think that this will be a really difficult game to play on the iphone because of all the combos as well as specail attacks. They should have released one of the SF game that was released on XBLA because that was a good game.

Controlling Iphone games looks really shit to me, and I've also tried one. It was shit. The game too. Shit.

Anyway this is where the money is probably so yeah. Woop.

The iphone has taken over completely as my number one portable games system a few months ago. There's just so many good stuff on it, and the list is beginning to grow.

I never touch my ds actually, and I never bring it along due to its lame size. Plus, games are becoming so good even the ports start having great gameplay as opposed to their ds counterparts. I wouldn't have believed it myself if you told me I loved my gta chinatown wars more on my iphone than on my ds but it is true.

I think whatever happens to street fighter is just another example of this sort of thing.

Never thought I, biggest nintendo fan, would have to admit it.

But the iphone is smaller than the DS so there is no problem. But I do agree with you on the fact that the iphone is becoming to be a big hit with games. They have Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing, plus I think Unleased is in there as well. And for a game that has really good graphics on 360 it is very impressive I grant them that.

I don't think anybody would dispute that the graphics would have to be downgraded, hence why I said it would have to run in the Tatsunoko engine instead.

As a brand name Street Fighter would do far better on Wii than many of the third party efforts that are either A) poorly crafted, B) not what people were wanting (spin-offs of series, for example) or C) great games but new/less well known IPs (I'm convinced that we'll see that the likes of No More Heroes still fail to reach huge sales figures when they go to the more 'suitable' HD formats; comparable to the Wii figures at best). If they've put the effort into porting to iPhone, it wouldn't take much more to put it on Wii also.

Still, Wii got Tatsunoko. Despite it being brilliant by all accounts, it won't sell that well because of the branding, and then that'll just be used as extra fuel for the 'third parties do crap on Wii' debate. That's despite the VS series not being as well known as Street Fighter anyway.

This game will be incredibly shite.

Meh not a fan of street figher, nor gaming on the iPhone either. I just find it too hard to play - like the only games I play on mine are Bejeweled 2, Peggle and others like that. Others just control bad and have terrible frame rates.

No it's because you suck at the game.
