Right, I'm making a new thread for this because inevitably some people will want to be avoiding spoilers and info on the titles. For those people, I am splitting discussion of the Gen V titles away from the Official Pokémon Discussion Thread. Remember the feeling of first seeing a Dunsparce in Dark Cave and thinking "WTF IS THAT!?"? That's what some people might want to feel again. Remember finding Pachirisu and not being surprised at all because it was everywhere and you didn't have the will power to avoid info? Yeah, wasn't very fun.

All Pokémon Gen V Discussion takes place here. Do not post about Gen V in the other thread without a spoiler tag, but really try to keep it to this thread anyway.

Post leaks, screenshots, pics, anything about Gen V here you like!
Anyone who wants to make a nicer thread image can give it a shot if they want I won't be on this thread very much (see top paragraph) but I'll update this post a li'l bit every now and then. Expect a full reveal around the 11-15th of April!

Any ideas what the 4 and 15 on the website's page mean? I would guess a release date if it wasn't so close... maybe when the site gets updated with more info?

Yeah sorry I should have mentioned that. That's when the games are being fully revealed.

The 4 and 15 were the dates. I think it means new info on April 15th. But this is only a hypothesis.

I'm going to sidestep this issue and say that I don't really think there's a need a new pokemon anyway. Don't we have enough already? Anyway, hopefully they'll be a bit more of a shift in the gameplay from previous pokemon titles. I don't want anything too radical, but I do think that pokemon is starting to feel like the same game over and over again!

It doesn't sound like there's a lot of information about the titles at the moment. I'm assuming they're going to be on the DS?

I'm assuming they won't do as many this gen as in Gen 4. The fact they only started revealing them incredibly recently also suggests to me that they're working really hard with them. Maybe they'll make it a nice round 600 or 601 and be done with it? I'm not sure how likely that is though.


They don't want radical changes either, that's why we have spin offs. However from the sounds of things this gen will shake things up a bit, hopefully regaining some interest it lost.

They look shit compared to the old ones. Can't beat the good ol' first 150/151 Pokémon.

Such an amazing imaginative awesome monster design am I right? Mind blowing quality right there.

And Seel isn't nearly as badass as a narwhal.

We'll found out how racist people are when white outsells black 3:1 (Or maybe everyone will buy black to 'prove' they're not racist?)

SoulSilver is far more popular than HeartGold but they're still selling pretty evenly so I don't think it'll be much of a problem.

I'm kinda disappointed really. Disappointed am I crazy? Pokémon has never looked so different before and it's on the same console as the previous gen!! However the Sprites don't look as nice as I hoped, and where are the following Pokémon? Maybe they'll leave those for the third games.... Atleast the overworld looks great.
Oh, and the protags look like Pokémon Ranger characters.

Could take some getting used to, but I'm feeling different kids of wow right now.

This looks fucking insane, HYPE commence.

Looks... ok, I guess. Personally, I'm having mixed feelings on the visuals. The sprites don't look as good and the background on one of the shots looks really basic.

I'd rather them develop it for the 3DS, it would have been a much better move for the games, in my opinion.

The sprites don't look as good because of the zooming, I'm sure they'll look much better in motion. As for the backgrounds, most Pokémon games until now didn't even have backgrounds. That background has a cityscape that you can't see very clearly, and it will likely move as you move.

Looks pretty cool, though I want to see more before I fully decide. Liking the new 3D look, though I agree that the sprites don't look amazing.

Think we'll finally get diagonal movement?!

I like the map sprites, they don't look chibi. The battle sprites could be better I agree, but I'm thinking we'll be getting some much better animations this time around, just looking at the battle screen.


Nope.

I think it looks amazing, great mix of 2D/3D. The new battle screens give me hope that we're about to get far more animated battles with moves being used and reacted to properly...

Oh, and that battle set up looks, to me, to be BEGGING to be enhanced through 3DS. It looks deeper and more 3D than before despite the use of sprites.

EDIT: I want following Pokémon and Pokéwalker support still in though, dammit.

I don't have a working DS yet sadly but this is the push I need to get me back to DS oh a I don't know which I should get Black or White. I'm leaning towards Black because I wanna see the Legendary Black PokeMon.

Pokéwalker support isn't out of the picture just yet. as for followers, yeah it's a shame. The lack of extra sprites could well mean improved animations or music in their place.

It does look amazing imo! You just need to think about it for a while and it all sounds great. This will be the DS' fantastic swansong, Majora's Mask style. Think about what you've been playing for all these years, it's finally different, and it's come from over 10 years of development and design experience from GameFreak. How can people not feel good about this?

Not being on 3DS doesn't matter! It'll still be a fantastic game, and we'll see even better culminations on the 3DS in many years' time.

@ Mason: Thinking about it, you may be right about 3DS upgrades. I hope that doesn't mean region lockage though

Check out my 3DS edit too - I now reckon more than ever that this is going to be a DS game that supports the new system when you plug this into it!

Yeah the battle screen definitely looks like it would use 3D. Maybe it'll be like Gold/Silver; compatible with GameBoy but colour in GameBoy Color.

I also realised that Crystal came out quite close to the finish of the GameBoy Color so maybe this could be as good. I towns look great!

Yeah the towns are what gave me hype out of 10 (hype/10) can't wait to hear the music and see different seasons and weather effects in this one.
And above everything I can't wait to see the new PokeMon.

And Josh you're right this looks to be the much needed DS swansong. Not saying DS actually needs one with how well it's doing, but that it deserves to go out with a bang.
