Update 2

Confirmed as a port of the 1993 Super Famicom/Nintendo game

http://remoon.blog15.fc2.com/blog-entry-13502.html

Update

Nintendo have confirmed the game via it's Japanese release calendar:

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/schedule/1010.html

Original Story

It appears that Nintendo are due to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Super Mario Bros. by releasing a special Wii version of what we know in the West as "Super Mario All-Stars".

The original collection was released on Super Famicom / Nintendo in the early 90's, and comprised of the following games; Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2 (USA), Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels (SMB2), and Super Mario Bros 3.

Various well known retail bloggers across Japan have leaked the information regarding the new collection, which is known in Japan as "Super Mario Special Pack". According to Game Jouhou which summarizes, the collection will come with a booklet titled "Super Mario History 1985 - 2010", this is said to recap 25 years of Mario's history and showcase an array of previously unseen development material. The game will also be come with a series soundtrack CD, which features music from the original game right through to Super Mario Galaxy 2.

The new collection is due to launch across Japan on October 21st priced at ¥2,500.

I suspect it will launch in the West early next year - March in NA and May in the EU, coinciding with the original release dates.

No official word from Nintendo.

Super Mario Bros Collection Special Pack, ehh?

This would have to be some sort of update because all of those games (without their SNES updated graphics) are available on the Virtual Console anyway.

I must have this. I don't care how much it costs.

I wonder what it'll be like.

If they want to sell what is essentially a SNES game for full price, they can kindly fuck off.

Surely they aren't just going to port the SNES game? I'm expecting/hoping they'll include the NSMB games. It can't be a Super Mario Bros compilation without them.

Great, now my mom will want a Wii Smilie.

Great news indeed, but they have to make sure they include ALL, not just bits.

Nintendo...porting a game to make a shedload of money? Doesn't sound like them...
No wait, I remember now, half the GBA games worth owning were SNES ports.

I just completed pokemon yellow! 151 pokemon seen and caught.
Surely that's worth a star?

Could be good if it's somthing, like Sonic Mega Collection, put all the Gameboy games on there for good measure too!
Some artwork and old adverts and shit, could be good.

I suppose it's possible they might even stick in Mario Galaxy 1 now that sequal is out? Hmmm probably not though.
Seems like a budget release with that price too.

Wow okay.
This had better be a budget title ._. I can't believe they're selling this on a disc!?

"A very affordable price is 2,500 yen", so it should be £19.99 here (but we know what Nintendo are like with pricing).

The CD soundtrack and other collectors items sound good.

One would think that it includes all of Mario's main adventures up to now? It would be utterly pointless to just rerelease Super Mario All-Stars with a couple extra 'behind the scenes' bits that you didn't get on the SNES cart. One also reminds ones' self that Nintendo aren't really that big on value, so maybe it won't include all the main adventures up to now. Who knows?

You sound as if they are trying to scam people in this case. Of course they won't sell a port of an SNES game for full price. Use your head.

In Japan, Amazon has started taking pre-orders for Super Mario Collection Special Pack. The company posted a product description, which appears to have been removed from the listing within minutes. However, those few minutes were long enough for somebody to copy and paste the info into a story at Game Jouhou.

According to the description:

- The Wii game is a port of 1993′s Super Mario Collection (Super Mario All-Stars)
- No graphical overhaul
- Will include a booklet that recaps the 25 year history of Mario
- Booklet includes unseen development materials
- Will also Include a soundtrack
- Soundtrack has music from the original Super Mario Bros. through Super Mario Galaxy 2
- Limited time production
- The game will probably come packed in a yellow box.

Full price?

No.

Sod that then. :/ I'd have been all over this if it was a proper remake, perhaps with Mario 64 thrown in. May as well just stick with my SNES cart.

Got me with the yellow box Smilie.

It would rock if they included Super Mario 64 in it. That game represents my first full edged 64 experience, I even enjoyed it in the DS.

I think that's wishful speaking though Smilie.

Seems like a massive piss-take given this new information. Given how many times the series have been chewed up and spat out for remake purposes - on so many inferior systems, it seems absurd that they're leaving it be.

Seems like a cop out - but 25 years isn't anything massively special is it? I hope they do something more for the 30th anniversary.

The least they could've done was make a new "All Stars" collection featuring every major Mario outing, not including spin-offs or RPGs, until Sunshine. Although up until Galaxy 2 would've been best and would well warrant a full price tag.

I dunno why, but 25 years is generally celebrated much more than 30. I guess it's because it's a quarter of a century.

The 50th anniversary will be a whole lot more special. But 25 more years.. a long time to wait. Smilie
