Warning: Rant Smilie

Ever since late July where I was told that Mega Man Universe would not be on Wiiware. I thought to myself "Wow....the Wii really is terrible when it comes to hardware..." Now I fully taken an understanding to how bad Nintendo has gotten. With titles such as Epic Yarn and Other M, it really just shows how much Nintendo just wants to innovate. Tweaking is one thing but showing how god awful they could make one of their NES/SNES heroes really shows how they really don't know how to cater to hardcore fans anymore.

I have little to no use for my Wii anymore so I officially softmodded it so I can get Brawl hacks to save replays and put them up on Smashboards. The only justice I see in playing Wii now is either playing with friends, playing Super Mario Galaxy (that Donkey Kong Country 4 and Epic Mickey being the only decent platformers on the system) and playing both Tatsunoko vs Capcom and Brawl competitively. I am ranked top 800 in the game worldwide.

It just saddens me that Nintendo doesn't care for games like Brawl and only cared for the money it would rake in. Capcom to this day is still shoveling more and more into Super Street Fighter VI which is very impressive. Capcom really shows how they are completely dedicated to their series' and giving a lot to their fans. (Off topic but I would say the same for SEGA if they made a Jet Set Radio 3. They renewed the license to the series recently so hopefully that means a new game is on the way. :3)

But still, seeing games like Gran Turismo 5 and Marvel vs Capcom 3 shows how pathetic the Wii really is compared to it's competition. Nintendo does a better job with the DS than the Wii and that is straight up my opinion.

I am hoping to get a new system. If I had to choose, it would be a PS3. I don't have money to pay for Xbox Live. I am really hoping for Mega Man Universe and Rayman Origins to come out soon so I can easily pay for those. I am commited to characters and series' not franchises. (Except for Capcom. They can take my money anyday. ;D)

I have a ton of love for characters like Mario and Fox but I don't think Nintendo really does anythiing except cater to Zelda fans, whore out Mario for profit and fap off to Samus. It's a joke and I've had enough of the lack of F-Zero and a new hardcore Star Fox game.

I still rank Mario as a top 5 favorite character, but I have no loyalty to Nintendo anymore unless they go back and make games like on the NES, SNES and N64. Wii is just a terrible gimmick that has suckered people into buying their system. And Move still feels more fluid and better than WiiMotion+.

Please don't hate me for believing in my opinions. I take it that you should all be mature enough to do that without attacking me.

To be quite honest though, I'm not happy with this generation at all. Sony had their debacle at the beginning which really left them out as an option for anyone who wanted to play games (situation remedied mostly now), and the Xbox's hardware quality is/was piss poor. Unacceptable for any consumer product. How they've made it through with their reputation still intact is impressive.

The Wii in particular has been shoddy. The hardware has always been terrible, and Nintendo's game output has been very patchy.

The only things to save me from giving up totally on videogames are: Super Mario Galaxy, Mirror's Edge, Batman: Arkham Asylum, COD4, Dead Space and Valve.

Love you Gabe.

It has felt pretty shitty despite some fantastic games. The next three years are going to be incredible though, for me it all starts with 3DS & The Last Guardian on PS3.

I've barely touched my Wii since I got my 360 apart from games like monster hunter and Metroid Other M, It doesn't keep my interest that much anymore Smilie

The Wii has been dying for a while now. Nintendo's prime interests now involve catering to "little kids" and money. The core fanbase is gone imo. Nintendo knows it, but the all mighty dollar is keeping them from going back.

I'm only loyal to Capcom atm anyways. MH3 was a great experience and had a better online gameplay than any of Nintendo's other games.

But Wii has the new GoldenEye, wich is teh best game wot has eva bin made.

I thought Sly's post on this was pretty good. I mostly concur with him about which few games really pushed the boat out this gen and carved out their own identity. Although all the COD games following COD4 were great, really it was COD4 that set the new formula, and the others just added minor improvements and tweaks, but also messed with the nice balance COD4 had (minus it's magic Zeus grenades).

I would personally add Uncharted, and although only a minigame, I like to count COD: Nazi Zombies as an entity unto itself. I've seen (first-hand) women who don't play any games at all start to get into Nazi Zombies. That frantic mix of teamwork, strategy, etc really was a winner this gen. So simple, too.

Though I've only played the demo, I would say that Heavy Rain goes against the grain enough whilst being above a certain quality threshold to give it a nomination. It was a nice different game, even if David Cage is a cunt.

It just depends on what games you like.

I'd take a Wii over both other consoles. It has the most appealing games library, to me. I like games on any console though. I don't have some loyalty rubbish getting in my way.

I am tired of hearing the same old thing all the time though. It's like a record on repeat. I've been hearing the same about Nintendo and the Wii for years now.

I agree with what Marzy said, I mean, I've got well over 40 games on my Wii (and I still haven't played all of them to completion), but that's not to say that every console has it's own gems, I mean, sometimes I like to play my PC games as well like Crysis and GTA: EFLC, and sometimes a bit of MW2.

But I also like to sit down and play with my brother on his 360 and PS3, I mean that's where I have a lot of fun on those consoles, I even like to sometimes play GRID and Mirrors edge which I can't find on the Wii.

Being multi-platform is the best (it's quite expensive though).

I agree with Marzy too, if I could only have one console, I'd go for the Wii. Just recently (Back in September) I've gotten a 360. I mean, this is good for games that aren't on Wii, but overall the Wii has more games that I'm interested in.

Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid etc. I really don't see why people have problems with it. Sure it isn't as powerful as the other two consoles but hardware doesn't matter. It has some great games and I hate when people criticize it for being weaker than the other systems. I know you're just posting your opinion but we've heard it a billion times before. So, like the title says it's "time to move on". Smilie

I agree with Marzy and Mush on that. It's always the same. We get it, the Wii is inferior in terms of hardware compared to the other systems but does that make its games any less great? Absolutely not.

And what's with that "Nintendo abandoned the hardcore" notion? There are plenty "hardcore"(god, I hate that term..I really do) titles from Nintendo for the Wii, especially this year. Not to mention Skyward Sword next year and the hinted Pikmin 3 somewhere in the future too. Heck, they could even be working on a new F-Zero or Starfox title right now since they are bringing back Kid Icarus on the 3DS. Really, nobody knows what they are up to.

Cubed3 Member

I've never been more pleased with my gaming options than I have been on a wii. The HUGE difference between this and the gamecube is easily forgotten by the looks of it.

There's sooo many great titles to choose from that this is the first generation where I can't get to play every title that was on my wish list. The best games yet have been released on wii, so I don't share the sentiment at all.

Staff Member

The thing I like about Nintendo is that they're never afraid to try something new. It could be a success or a failure, but they're always willing to take the risk. I also like how they're quite secretive about some of the games they're developing. It definitely comes as a surprise when a game we wasn't expecting has been announced.

ModeratorStaff Member

I hear you on the lack of F-Zero and Star Fox. Where the hell are they? Can you imagine what those games would be like on the PS3? That's what I want.

Nintendo have done a terrific job in bringing all sorts of people together to play games and get people who never played them before to play them now. But in doing so, they've somewhat abandoned the players that got them there in the first place. They've done a few good things here and there, like Mario Galaxy, Brawl and Mario Kart Wii, but the other games like Metroid Prime 3, Other M and DK Country Returns have been made by other developers. Surely they have the teams to bring us some proper F-Zero or Star Fox goodness? Not even Zelda has made an appearance on Wii (excluding the Twilight Princess).

Being able to play fantastic looking games like FFXIII, Uncharted and GTA IV has made me realise you can't really survive on just owning a Wii. If you love games, you're doing yourself a favour by having a PS3 or Xbox too. But for sure, I miss the days where Nintendo produced triple A titles for all their core franchises, and competed head to head with Sony and MS.

Don't get me wrong, there're quite a few top games on the Wii that I like, such as No More Heroes, but the Wii does miss out on titles like COD and GTA, which is why you'd have to own more than just a Wii.

I just sold my Wii online for the new Playstation move.. The game is hands down more advanced than the Wii!

I managed to, for about 4 years. I even managed to kill one after 3 and a bit years, that's how much I played the damn thing.

CoD is available on Wii, and from my experience of playing MWR. It plays really well. I'd even go as far as saying I enjoy CoD4 on the Wii more than I do on the 360. (Due to the controls) I haven't played Black Ops on Wii, but If MWR is anything to go by I'm guessing that it will be brilliant too. WaW (The Wii version) may of had a lot of content missing but Treyarch did a great job at bringing the CoD online experience to the Wii.

I conclude to say, I could still survive with just a Wii. Sure, it's nice to have 2 consoles. But, when I just had my Wii I was perfectly fine. I also have to say that I'm looking forward to the Wii's 2011 lineup more than 360's. (The PS3... well, let's just say I'm not huge on Sony)

Oh, I know COD is on Wii too, but it's obviously not going to be on par with the PS3/Xbox versions, especially when it comes to online (which is another area the Wii fails big time). I haven't played COD much to make any judgement on which version is better, but I think it's fair to say almost anybody would choose the PS3/Xbox version over the Wii one if they had the choice.

Again, the online for Wii failing isn't a factor if you aren't big on online games, but it's something that does put a lot of gamers off. I am addicted to Mario Kart Wii online, so it shows that Nintendo can do it. Brawl needed to have the same kind of structure as MK Wii online to be more successful in that area. Imagining F-Zero online against 29 other people in one race would be awesome. That's what I want next gen.

I survived with just the GameCube last gen, and admittedly, I could probably have gone this gen without any of the current consoles. I was a late bloomer this gen (only got my Wii and PS3 this time last year). I could probably survive on just the Wii too. But I just think that to enjoy all types of games, you need another system to accompany it.

Sure, you can survive without it. I mean, I only got my PS2 last year, and have only just started going through FFX, XII, Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, etc, in recent times, but it makes you realise what you missed out on too. Maybe I did the right thing anyway, seeing as I'm getting these gems at about 5 quid each, and maybe that's the way to do it if you can survive with one console (as I did).

But all I can say is that I'm not surprised that some of the Nintendo faithful are looking elsewhere for quality games.

As mentioned, I think the best way to be is open-minded, and not to tie yourself down to any one company. Admittedly, I'm not a fan of Xbox, but having a PS3 to accompany my Wii means I get almost the best of both worlds.

I could survive on just a Wii, the only reason I game on my PC is because I needed one and I had enough money, so I built it. As I said I have 40 odd games on my Wii and I'm pretty satisfied with what I have, plus I don't spend as much time playing games anymore.

It's not enough to survive. Shouldn't you be able to thrive? Why can't any one console give us the best gaming experience possible? The answer is they can't, so we look elsewhere.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to go multi-platform. I feel in a perfect world we'd all could afford the three systems and be able to play whatever we want. Fact of the matter is we can't.

I do agree with the OP in that in my experience and in recent times, I've suffered through recent droughts of desired titles and thanks to Sonic Colors (woot woot) I've enjoyed my Wii for the first time in a while.

Whats the matter with playing Gears of War 2 or Borderlands or even Hitman: Blood Money in the mean time? There isn't.

We all have different tastes. Thats what makes this world interesting.

It is Nintendo's job to keep their fanbase, not all of their fanbase, just the ones that are in jeopardy of leaving. Not anyone else's. The reason why we're having this conversation is that Nintendo...has been busy with other things.

Sure they'll give you a bone here and there, but do they give me great online capabilities? No. Do they...give me good 3rd party support resulting in a healthy library of games? Not for my preferences <--- keyword: Preferences.

I'm a huge mario fan and I've bought neither SMG 1 or 2....and thats saying something. In my own opinion its not cutting it for me so I'm getting my gaming elsewhere.

I agree with teetrap on what he said that it's all about preferences and that's it's not a big deal to move on and play a different game.

It doesn't matter if someone wants to get one or all three.

I like the Wii, I game enough on it and even dug into the games, that I forgot that I even had.

heck I even started to go back to playing a few of my GB games, too... which I really don't know why I did. -shrugs- maybe it's just wanting to play them one last time, before I get my own place.

I like my old school games, and i'm only 19. XD But the old school games, are where the real challenges are. Ha, try and beat a game, from the NES's Era in a few (3) hours, it's hard believe me. Yeah today's games are bright and shinny but that's not me, I like the old games that force you to think and be strategic. Maybe that's why I go with Nintendo.

How many games today, can even hold a candle to the games that started this industry, and I don't mean just Nintendo, I mean all of them.

When all is bad don't look for a easy way out. Because you wont know what to do once your out

This thread has been over the top, since the opening post. Just buy the games you want, if that means buying another console, do so.

There's no right or wrong in this. Smilie

I like games on all consoles and even though the Wii has weaker graphical power, I think it's had some of the best looking games of this generation. The Mario Galaxy games, Muramasa, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Donkey Kong Counrty Returns, Metroid Prime 3 and Madworld are all strong games graphically, and all have very different art styles.

There are also gorgeous games on the other two consoles, but I think the art styles of a lot of the top games are very similar. They are pushing for reality, which in itself isn't a bad thing, but when it's making games look samey, it's nice to have a Wii there to go to, to experience another artistic direction.

I personally spend more time on my Wii than my PS3, but it all depends on what game I get at the time. Some times the balance changes over for a while. But to each there own, and if you can afford more than one console all the better. Smilie

Cubed3 Member

Yeah this topic is a bit OTT.

I personally think this has been the best year for the Wii in terms of Software. Out of the 3 consoles, it is my 360 that has hardly been used recently. It's just about tastes. Smilie

I have all the systems too, as most of you know. I've barely played the home consoles this gen, it's been all about handhelds, handhelds, handhelds for me. I stopped buying XBOX Live simply because I never needed it.

So even though it's been underwhelming, I still play the Wii more than my PS3 or 360.
But oh my god you guys have no idea how much I've played my PSP and especially my DS. I've easily played them more than any console last gen.

So yes it comes down to preference. And yes this gen has been largely a bit meh with a couple of instant classics thrown in so far, but things are really looking up.

Just not for the PSP it's really bloody dead. ._. All I want on it is Valkyria Chronicles 3, and I already resent that game for not being on PS3 instead.

Would you agree that the DS has done better than the Wii?
