So in other words, he had a look on neogaf and mixed up a few stupid comments into one big uninformed one that might be taken seriously?

Although I agree with not buying stock in Nintendo before E3, it'll probably go down for no real reason.

If ninty were going to release a console less powerful than current gen wouldent they just release the tab controller for wii? Then release a more powerful console once Sony and microsoft play their hand? That would make a lot more sense.

Cubed3 Member

That's a terrible idea. The Wii could never support a (good) tablet controller. And one of the things I look forward to are HD graphics.

What I think Nintendo needs to do:
- be first to market
- have great games that make full use of the controller (including some killer apps)
- have a machine that's at least a bit stronger than the PS360
- have lots of 3rd party support on board

Wasent an idea nor a suggestion. I was questioning the ideas behind ninty releasing an underpowered machine in relation to current Gen hardware.

The problem with that video is that he's using one rumor to disprove other rumors. The only thing that's been confirmed is that the Wii U is using a Power7 CPU. And that's just a name brand, really. We don't know anything about the specific configuration of that CPU.

And the latest rumors don't complain about the CPU. They complain about the GPU. And we don't have any confirmation what-so-ever about what kind of chip is being used there. Just rumors. Bottom line is we still know very little and we're getting a lot of mixed messages from these developers.

I didn't post that video with the intention of saying that it's the truth because nothing at this point is. However, with those negative rumours floating around lately that influence so many people with ease, I might as well post a more optimistic take on it here.

You're right, he doesn't have confirmed specs to work with either but one point he made still stands. Nintendo would have to go really out of their way to somehow make the Wii U less powerful than the current generation and yet, after the Wii, so many people are happy to jump to that conclusion based on statements from 'anonymous developers'. It's not like with big studios like Epic or Gearbox where we actually know where the messages are coming from. Anyone could have made up those negative rumours and apparently, in many publications' eyes, they have just as much credibility as comments from actual studios that are working with the Wii U.

The Wii U version of Aliens: Colonial Marines is not a port of the ps360 version . And it's movie canon.

We also chatted with Matt Powers, a Senior Producer on the game for Sega, about the Wii U version of the game. Powers initially referred to the game as “the Wii U port” and Faylor rushed back over to scold him, telling us: “I hate that word. The Wii U version is not a port. Remove it from your vocabulary.”

Is that not because most people consider the word "port" almost like a derogotary term.
Like it implies the least amount of effort is being put into getting it working on another piece of hardware.

It's still a port in the sense that at its core it will be the same game as the 360/PS3 version but with a lot of Wii exclusive features, optimised for it's hardware and look a lot better.

Right?

Thats what I have been led to belive.Smilie

Well yeah, it's a port, just not a straight port, it uses the same engine (probably the most recent version) and uses the console to the best of the developer's abilities.

A 2D Mario at launch? Last time that happened was 22 years ago.

Well, Super Mario Advance launched with the GBA, but I guess no-one counts that due to it being a port.

I really am annoyed about how pathetic today's reporters are; just a while ago I read a report about decline in games. It's pathetic a analyst actually said, "Ten years ago, Nintendo largely catered to kids and Nintendo fanboys," (last section)

I really feel ashamed about all the professionalism i'm running into... even in real life scenarios it's pathetic.

This is one thing Nintendo has to fix for the WiiU. Nintendo's online system is a joke compared to every other competitor. The best online experience I've had was with Mario Kart Wii, idk why they didn't take this successful approach with other games.

Cubed3 Member

From what I hear, the other consoles also have pretty strict policies on digital distribution. Like they take 50% of the money, you have to sell a minimum of games before payout...
Nintendo may be strict (and I do agree that they need to change that), but it's not like Sony/Microsoft are such nice and caring companies.

Staff Member

The thing is, that was the way they did things with the Wii, that's not how it works with the 3DS, and it definitely won't with the Wii U since now everything's done with NiN, the 40MB limit will definitely be gone since Iwata talked about the possibility of downloading full games in the January financial talks.

This is just some angry guy who's hitting out on Nintendo because he didn't get his own way one time in the past.

I agree, and that news artical doesn't say anything about the Wii u, and it really does sound like it was said years ago.

(just re-read it)

Yeah, it says one thing about the wii U... but the majority of the article is about the Wii, and Wiiware. NOT the Wii U.

Wow, this is a big mistake in my opinion. Are they afraid of what Sony and Microsoft are gonna unveil?

Staff Member

Not really a mistake, they did the same with the 3DS did they not?

I honestly don't care if the launch date and price aren't announced at E3 because I know I'll get one anyway whenever it comes out later this year. I really just want to see games.

Cubed3 Member

Obviously I'm gonna still gonna get it launch day no matter the price.

It's the general public that they have to appease to. Japanese companies of late have been getting hit really hard by the media, they have to prove to the world that their strong yen shouldn't be a major detractor.

That's really cool, but the problem with placing objects on the pad is that sooner or later, you'll have 20 separate objects. Sorta like the new spyro game. Not my type of thing really. I'd rather collect things in games, not outside of them.
