Cubed3 Review of The Last Story
Cubed3 Preview of The Last Story

Well, apparently, The Last Story will be coming to Europe!

I thought that with this news, we might as well have a thread for the game. No ideas on release dates yet but I'd wager late this year. PAL regions are getting good news lately, what with Xenoblade due in September, and now this. Next up, Pandora's Tower!

Famitsu gave The Last Story 38/40. By comparison, they gave Xenoblade 36/40. Not that it matters, but perhaps gives an indication that we're getting another quality RPG on our shores. And with Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi at the helm, I'm really excited by this.

Happy New Year one and all!

So, this has been a long time coming - The Last Story has been officially unveiled for PAL regions - for release on 24 February 2012!

Seeing as there isnt an official thread, I thought I'd make one.

I'm very excited, the game looks amazing and I honestly hope that the special edition will be available from more than one retailer.

As with Xenoblade, I hypothesise that there's a Japanese Dub with subtitles (in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish) and also an English Dub if you don't like the Japanese VA.

As there's no english trailer, I've included the debut trailers released a while back Smilie

FUCK YEAH!! Smilie I'm almost exploding out of excitement right now! Smilie Now all I need till I completely explode is a confirmation that the original Japanese voices will still be included as an option if there are going to be English dubs just like in Xenoblade. Smilie

I would love a proper confirmation of this at E3, it'll have Q4 of this year sorted for me.

I was going to ask one of the Reps as well, but I ended up talking to her about Xenoblade (which I was playing at the time).

Knew it. Smilie

Any updates? confirmation? news about this game?

Why cant Nintendo just say something

Still nothing. I reckon it's entirely possible that Europe could miss out on this one too. A rep for Ninty said it would come here, but given that not much else has been said since, it doesn't look good.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Well, Hironobu Sakaguchi himself said in an interview with a french site called Gameblog that it IS coming to Europe. That was at the end of May, shortly after a Nintendo rep said that we can expect to see it coming out in Europe, which is the article this thread is based on.

I'd take that as a near confirmation. It's still not set in stone with an official press release or something but there just has to be some truth behind those statements.

Even if it is coming out, then how do Nintendo expect the game to sell/ make money without any advertising and telling us gamers that it is out.

It just seems utter stupidity, which, sad to say Nintendo is famous forSmilie

It'll get some marketing nearer the time, if it truly does come here, but you can see why it might not.

They wouldn't want to spend money localising and translating the game into 5 different languages when only a small % of Wii owners will buy it. This type of game has limited appeal, especially for the Wii market.

Don't get me wrong, I want this as much as you, but I can totally understand it from a business standpoint. Even though I think all types of games should be released in all markets as much as possible.

Duh, I was almost done writing a similar post as you but then continued with the PM to you and you posted it before me, Azuardo. Smilie You're right, we won't see any marketing until it's officially announced and rather close to its release.

Xenoblade has already been confirmed, so they should have had a good reason to bring it to the European market. The Last Story is very similar so if Xenoblade is making it, there's no reason why The Last Story wouldn't. In fact, since it's from the creator from Final Fantasy and other popular developers it probably has even more appeal than Xenoblade.

If marketed properly, I don't see why both of them wouldn't sell well. There IS a market for JRPGs on the Wii, there was just nothing that was marketed so that it got some attention. Nintendo pushed Monster Hunter Tri (which arguably has even less appeal than your typical JRPG) considerably in the West and it has become the best selling third party Wii game. (I know, not a huge accomplishment but whatever) The die-hard fans like us will of course be informed of it and buy it but many others just need to be told "HERE! THIS IS THE LAST STORY, AN EXCELLENT JRPG! GO BUY IT NAO!" to buy it.

Here's something I came across while researching for more information about The Last Story and its release

GOD DAMMIT... I REALLY WANT THIS GAME.

Watching that review... I really want this game! Need some damn games to play on my dust covered Wii.

Sigh... another day and still no news Smilie

If you're going into every day expecting news on The Last Story, then I can assure you that you're going to have a very sad time for the next few weeks or even months.

For sure. There are plenty of great JRPGs out there I'm sure you haven't played Sher!

Haha.... thanks for that Guys Smilie

At least we have Xenoblade to look forward to Smilie

What consoles do you have Sher? I assume you've played the FF games? The fanboy in me says any of FF7 to FF13 should be played! In fact, FF12 plays similarly to Last Story; try that!

I've got a PS3 and PS2 in addition to my Wii/GC/N64/SNES.

I'm looking after my mates Xbox 360 (but cant seem to want to touch that thing). It's got Vanquish on it.

I tried getting into FF - but I really dislike the battle system. The stories are engrossing tho Smilie Are you shocked Azuardo?

For this year: My pics are COD:MW3, BF3, Zelda, Xenoblade and hopefully Last Story

I am a bit! You just don't like turn based gameplay in general then? That's a shame that you get to miss out on some great stories and characters, but can't expect you to play a game if you don't like the gameplay of course.

Like I say, have you tried FF12? It's not turn based, it's real time, and Last Story has been likened to it for having a similar battle system. Watch a vid or two and try it! It might be the closest you get to Last Story...

Guys I was just wondering if any of you have read about the news on american Wii owners taking the fight to Nintendo?

I wonder whether we should consider doing something similar in Europe so we can get Last Story / Pandora's box confirmed for PAL territories?

Perhaps it's time - Power to the people time!?

Last Story is once again confirmed for a release next year in Europe by Ludovic Amouroux, Product Chief at Nintendo France Smilie.

I'm guessing the 'Official' announcement and release period will be told at Gamescom, it's great getting these RPG's confirmed Smilie. Now there's only Earth Seeker (which didn't do so well in Famitsu) and Pandora's Tower (which isn't exactly an RPG) to go.

I heard from people who played it that Pandora's Tower is very, very Zelda-esque and a lot of fun, so it looks like Zelda just much more Japanese. Hoping that we get it since Action/Adventure games generally do well over here, right?

Last Story in 2012? Man thats like FAR AWAY.

Nintendo needs to be more open with its communicationsSmilie

And by the way, the man confirmed Xenoblade for End of August/ early September (more specifically for when school starts again in France, and that means end of august or early September, which could mean that the date of August 26th was the real one Smilie )
