User Poll - Will you get The Last Story?

I am definitely buying it!
I will get it eventually, it looks good.
I might get it, depending on reviews.
I probably won't get it.
I have no interest in it at all.

Wow, so is everybody except me getting the Limited Edition then? Damn, you guys make me feel like a cheapskate. Smilie Seriously though, I just didn't find the extra stuff worth the higher price. I can't wait to play the game though. However, I'm a bit worried about the British dubs. I watched a few trailers and the voice acting I heard in there made me cringe more than once. There are definitely worse dubs out there, but something about them just instantly takes that sense of immersion away from me. Maybe that's just me...

Oh no, don't tell me there's no options for subs like Xenoblade. >_< It's gonna be hard to get into a game where the voice actors don't care about their role. I awlays prefer playing and watching stuff in it's original format becuase that's how the creator intended it to sound.

Sadly that seems to be the case. :/ I looked everywhere but I've only seen reports that there is no such thing in The Last Story. Definitely a hype killer for me and it's not just because the voicework isn't in Japanese. I recently played FFXIII which had some really great voice acting but The Last Story's...ugh.

The only voice I don't like out of the ones I've heard so far is Zaels, he sounds far too wimpy and his voice isn't deep enough.

I haven't got the game yet though :/, not enough cash atm.

I've only played this for about an hour or so, and that was a lot earlier. I'm really loving the game so far, and voice acting has never been something to piss me off. I am 99.9% sure that there is no Japanese VA options in this game, as I have used pretty much all of the menus. There might be a chance that I overlooked that option, but I certainly doubt it.

I will play some more of this later. Only had like two hours sleep last night so I was napping for a few hours.

Cubed3 Member

I only just opened it but I doubt I'll have time to play it until next week. I like all the stuff that comes with the Limited Edition, well worth the extra £7. XD

Indeed! My playtime is just over 2 hours now, I'm loving it. The cutscenes look stunning, especially for a Wii game. The voice acting isn't spectacular, but it's growing on me.

Some of the options are so funny, if you don't mind spoilers... read the next part. It isn't a MAJOR spoiler though. I won't use any character names.

Cubed3 Member

I won't read it. XP I avoid spoilers at all costs.Smilie But it's good to hear that the voices are bearable.

Well you're not alone mate, because I simply couldn't get a hold of a limited edition in the end Smilie. It seems like very few stores had any copies in stock, and those that did had only a few.

Anyway, I played twenty minutes or so (up to the second save point) and I'm liking it so far. The voices aren't too bad I guess, would have preferred having the choice to listen to Japanese voices, but at least I can play the game without the need to read the subtitles that way, and concentrate on the action (especially since the characters chat a lot during battles).

I'll be getting the limited edition of Pandora's Tower too, just because y'know... Operation Rainfall and stuff. Gotta make the most of the European releases, haha.

Anyways, I haven't played this game at all today. I was playing Raid Mode with SirLink for a few hours earlier. I might play some of this later, since I'll be up for quite a few hours.

Having played a bit earlier today, I have to say I like the writing very much in this game Smilie. Dialogues are almost always good, and apart from the hero, I think the English voice cast this time is better than it was in Xenoblade (Zael's voice is a bad match IMHO).

Yes I did, haha. I loved the reaction. I haven't actually played anymore of this since my last comment. Been playing a lot of Revelations Raid Mode with SirLink. Smilie

I'll probably get around to playing some of this tomorrow.

Just started playing - good first impressions of Brit voices and battle system. Won't be getting through it much due to work, but will try to play where I can this week.

Only 85% on the April'S edition of GamesMaster, wait until price drop.

Yes, because 85% means the game is shit and it is best to just avoid it at all costs. Btw, I would've thought you would know Nintendo games never drop in price.

Super Mario Galaxy for 20 Euro. Your point is null and void.

That is a part of the Nintendo Selects range. My point still stands. Smilie I mean, sure. They drop eventually, or they bring out the Gamer's Choice/Nintendo Selects copy. Other than that though, it takes a while for Nintendo games to drop in price. Twilight Princess was around £40 everywhere until just recently.

ModeratorStaff Member

Fair enough if you prefer to wait for a price drop, but I think it's a shame you're only highlighting the lowest score review for the game and going with that, despite it getting mostly 9/10 across the board most elsewhere, and despite the fact that 85 is a bloody terrific score. To each his own.

I think we have a troll on our hands. I can't quite comprehend how an 8.5/85% is a bad score. Anything above 7 is worth checking out in my books. Even then though, there have been some games that didn't get great reviews on some sites, yet I have loved them.

Talking to someone with shit taste is apparently a waste of time.

I had to double check which thread I was in, thought I clicked the mass effect 3 thread by accident.

Smilie If your intent is to start arguments think again. Why can't people just discuss things rationally without resorting to insults? Getting tired of seeing this sort of thing.

I may have a shit taste... but it's certainly better than your assumption that 8.5/85% is a bad score for a game.

Aw, and here I was thinking that there was some sort of discussion about The Last Story going on in here when I saw a lot of new posts...but it's just UntoItsDream trying to pick a fight. I have to wonder though, are you ever buying any game at launch or before a price drop? Because I can't recall any fairly recent game except Super Mario Galaxy 2 that didn't get a score below 90% from at least one gaming website out there. Oh yeah, you might want to avoid The Last Story altogether since it actually received a 6/10 and two 7/10's. Surely those reviewers are right and it must be a terrible game that's not worth your precious time and money...

That aside, let's bring this thread back on track, shall we? How is everyone who owns it liking it (so far)? I finished it last weekend and thought it was a brilliant JRPG that was unlike any JRPG I've played before. I've seen a lot of direct comparisons with Xenoblade which makes sense since they're both JRPGs on the Wii but I myself couldn't directly compare them and say that one is better than the other since they both have a focus on very different elements, with The Last Story focusing more on the characters and combat system while Xenoblade offered so much freedom, exploration and sidequests.

I loved the action-based combat, the setting, the characters, the graphics, the music and pretty much everything else. Heck, I even liked the British dubs by the end of it. The rather frequent slowdowns are a shame though, but they didn't negatively affect the overall experience for me. If I had to give it a score, I'd probably go with a 9.5/10. Smilie

The Last Story is not included in the Famitsu's Top 50 Nintendo Games of All Time. If a game can't manage to be included in a list , where a mediocre 7.5 game like Skyward can achieve 10th place, then it'S a hopeless game.
