EDIT: Just played on the VC version of this and me and Azuardo were right.
Also, you couldn't just release A and have it shoot, you still had to tap when it was fully charged. I'm pretty sure they didn't change anything for the VC one, so yeah.Ah, I still remember playing Lylat Wars on N64 with my dad. Now I look at the controllers and think "...How the hell was that design even possible/comfortable?" Part of me wishes I still had my N64. Damn my mum for not watching where she was going. D:

Wow, this thread suddenly exploded.
Inverted controls are a must, it's how Star Fox games have always played.
I've been getting mixed up with boost and the bomb buttons sometimes, to the point where I have to actually take my eyes off the screen and make sure I'm pushing the right button, it strange.
I definitely think it's easier to get a bigger hit score on the original. It's probably due to the circle pad making the Arwing harder to control and the clicky buttons, which don't allow me to hammer down super fast on the laser. I know I can definitely get over 1000 though, so going to keep trying.

@Kafei: Thanks for the hint, though I luckily did find that out two days ago from a review on Amazon.de.
I was actually thinking if it's worth waiting a bit longer now that I didn't get it on release but it's already at €39 on Amazon and I doubt that it'll go lower than that anytime soon. So screw that, I think I'll order it right now.
Should be getting it on Wednesday then.

I got 1159 on hard route on my first "complete" playthrough, but missed most medals :/ by 20 or so points, only getting those for Corneria and Aquas (though I didn't expect to get the Sector Z one on my first attempt, since that one has always been the hardest to get in the whole game for me).
Also, on Venom 2 :
Tried the easy route next and was AMAZED by how vulnerable your partners are on Solar. They die for nothing ! I'm pretty sure they weren't so vulnerable in the original (though by now my memory has proven its inability to remember every little details

I got the game today and just played through it for the first time ever with 661 Hits total. Decent enough I guess, considering that I'm still not used to the controls (be it game or 3DS specific stuff) but I think that'll go away as I play more. I don't know the planet names off the top of my head but I followed the most south route possible. That's the easiest one, I guess?
Anyway, I'm going to try and complete the game and get a respectable high score in the coming days. Should be interesting to see how long that's going to take me.

Kafei and SirLink, which mode did you get those hits on, 3DS or N64? Then I can add you to the leaderboard.

Ah, I was thinking of adding that to my post when I was writing it before but I somehow forgot.
I got those hits in the 3DS mode.
EDIT: Now I remember where I added it instead...*looks at signature*

Sorry I missed your post Ross. Anyway, I beat that score already, and have visual proof
.
1349 Hits, on the hard route. And succeeded in getting that medal in Sector Z
!! Now the other medals should be piss easy
. That's a shame I missed by an inch the medal in Zoness and Area 6.
That's in Nintendo 64 mode by the way. I never play the 3DS mode.

Had to give the N64 version a quick go again, as a comparison. There's no way around it, that game plays much better with the N64 analog stick.
Excuse my French :

Back when I first played the game, I'm pretty sure my best score was over 1600. However since I bought my own copy I never cared to score so big on my own copy (I used to borrow games a lot
)
My best score on my own cartridge (Missed it by only two points on my playthrough today
) :

Another thing I looked out for when replaying through the original, and which I suspected after I tried the remake for the first time, is that bombs and charged shots definitely have a wider range of destruction in the original, making the remake harder since you can't wipe out as many enemies at once with a bomb, and charged shots don't always wipe out as many enemies at once as they should (sometimes locking onto the enemy at the center of a formation won't kill one or two of those around it).

Ah I knew something was up with the charge shot.. I used to be able to get perfect scores on the first couple of stages but it seems to be a lot harder to do on the 3DS version :c
Either way I'm really happy with the remake asides from some of the remixed tracks. The Voice Acting is all amazing and really faithful too, usually I would object to them re-recording it but they really did the original voice track justice imo.

I now got all medals in both 3DS and N64 modes. Now need to go for the Expert mode
.
Something funny that happened to me in 3DS mode was with the golem boss on Venom, when arriving there from Bolse. I killed it just when Slippy was saying "analysis complete", and the life bar showed completely empty for just a second then went away

Can anyone tell me if they added Lylat voices to this game as an option? It was in the EU N64 version.

Since this topic was bumped up... I got all medals on the hard route in Expert Mode except for the last one, on Venom. The Starwolf team is just ridiculously hard in that mode. Just one or two hits from them break on of your wings, making you lose your double lasers. I got to Andross only on my last life, with my energy bar real low, but he's so fast in Expert he caught me in his tentacles and destroyed me completely, leaving me no chance to try again :/. Granted, I sacrificed a couple lives along the way so I could get all the other medals on that route (especially the Sector Z one) so next time I won't have to do so, and prolly will save enough lives to get the last medal there ^^, with only the easy ones left (except for Solar which is another ridiculously hard one)

No Lylat voices anywhere I looked. I just checked and couldn't find a menu to select those in the game. In fact you can't even choose the language for the voices, it sets itself to the language of your console automatically (Had to switch my system from French to English just for that game alone because I couldn't stand the awful voice acting the French provided).
