Bit of a mouthful huh.

- Super Sony Smash Bros Sony Edition (now with Sony)
- 6 characters revealed (Kratos, Sly, killzone dude, twisted metal person, Fat Princess, PaRappa)
- Looks familiar right

'omFG DEY COPIED TEH SMAHS BORS!!!11' jokes aside, it looks good! Sure it's obvious where there inspiration came from but who cares?? Good video games are good video games and that's all I, the consumer, care about. Always could do with more quality party games and if they put in characters like Nathan Drake, Sackboy, etc.. well the cast could be pretty limited or pretty good depending on how they treat possibly third party characters.

For example I imagine Lightning and Sonic being possibilities (or maybe not I just want Sonic in it because he's Sonic)

ITT: Ridley, Geno, clones, items r 4 n00bs, etc
(ok really done with the smash bros jokes now)
WE FEEL THIS GAME CAPTURES THE ESSENCE OF CAPTURING THE ESSENCE and God of War is visually the BEST GAME ON THE PLANET
hi this is a thread.

I'm gonna pester the devs to get Lightning in there, since she shamefully missed out on Soul Calibur 5. Look forward to see how it turns out.

I'm gonna say... I couldn't help but laugh at the video. It absolutely SCREAMS Super Smash Bros. but that's all cool, it's about time Sony fans got their own crossover game like SSB. Smilie

This combine with "Little Big Planet Karting" has me worried more than anything about Sony's future. Sure, we can be worried about the the Vita not pushing units and an overall public disdain toward the company in their own home country, but this scares me.

I'm not here to hate, these games will probably be fantastic titles and I will most likely be playing against friends on these within the next year. Let me just point out the total lack of creativity and ingenuity it took to make both these games. This especially is a total, blatant, unabashed, rip off. Not just in the core mechanics, but even down to the very art direction. I will even venture to guess this will even get move support so we can have waggle controls a la the Wii. It's one thing when you can't push hardware, its another thing when the software you make to push those units is wholly unoriginal. I fear SCEA may be starting to stagnate.

I know the internet will be full of crap like what I'm saying shortly and I'm sorry I'm coming across as negative. I guess I should rest easy knowing one thing:
Somewhere right now in an undisclosed location there is a man named "Sakurai" and he will see this trailer and he will laugh.

Sakurai lives in a castle in the mountains of Japan.

I see where you're coming from but.. I think the same can be said on some level for many developers, I see it as more a case of competition and building on other ideas than not having enough ideas of their own. Sony recently did stuff like LBP and ModNation Racing after all, both pretty original takes on their own genres, I think they're just understandably cashing in on some of their popular brands.

Looks like a really over the top SSB game. Could have potential to be a good game, but there needs to be a few more memorable characters, I was not sure who a few of them were. Nathan Drake deserves a spot on this game.

True, true. And we are seeing an extension of the current consoles lifespan far beyond what we have seen in the past. I guess that makes this kind of thing that much more probable.

And I must not forget we just saw the conclusion to the Uncharted trilogy and the release of Journey on PSN. Presumably we also have The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy Versus XIII and The Last of Us to look forward to. Originality isn't something I should be worried about. I guess I'm just a little riled up because its just... its just... so blatant. Oh, well. Like I said, I'll be playing it within a year and I'll be loving it.

I kind of agree. If they just came out and admitted "ok it's like super smash bros we know" it would probably sit more easily with me.
If they try to pass it off or outright deny the inspiration though I'd be like

"god no stop
that's not what people want to hear please put your dumb pride aside foR ONE SECOND."

There's one thing that worries me about the game. From the gameplay we've seen it seems like there's no health bar and the only way to kill someone is with a super move. So the hits you do on your enemy only increases your super gauge and doesen't actually damage them at all. I doubt that's the only type of mode so I guess we'll see.

So...I don't really know how any of those characters are. I'm starting to get really out of touch! Smilie
Surely it HAS to have Crash Bandicoot in. And Spyro! Viva la PS1! Smilie

Chances of them being in are lower now since both of them are owned by different companies now. Their series also kinda went downhill but they have said 3rd party support will play a big role in the game so it's not impossible.

Having Spyro in would be great. And have his skateboard from the third game as an item.

It'll probably have Cloud Strife in it, and a patapon considering the "Story" the guy mentioned in the interview.

I like what they're doing with background action - one stage sees Hades from God of War fighting off hordes of Patapon.

For years I've wanted Cloud in SSB, but this looks more like his place being PlayStation and all. Cloud and Lightning I think are enough FF rep (two to three is plenty) and probably the most likely FF chars to make it in. Would suit me. You know, Snake is even more suitable to this game than SSB, too... I wonder if we could see the likes of Snake and Sonic jumping back to this one? Would they jump back to SSB Wii U afterwards, too? Interesting!

Anyone remember TMNT: Smash Up? That was another Smash Bros. "rip-off".

Yeah my bro got it, think we played it once and then never played it again.

There was also a game for gamecube called Digimon Rumble arena 2. Played kinda like smash and it was brilliant. Another example of a rip off Smilie

Yes.. but the difference between TMNT and this is that this game actually looks like a pretty darn good "rip off". Smilie

Look what this game's devs have in their office:

Top right, Now we know where their inspiration came from. =3

TMNT Smash up wasn't too bad, it just lacked a roster really.

It does feel like Spyro, Crash, Lara Croft, Snake and a whole host of characters should be in this, but with so many 3rd party owners it would be one hell of a battle to get them.

Looks ok, but i'd rather have Smash any day!

I think Spyro and Crash have about as much chance as many other 3rd party characters unfortunately, though I think Ratchet and Jak are sort of likely.

Considering Sony's first party line-up is kind of limited I imagine they'll rely on 3rd party characters more heavily than Nintendo did, so maybe we will see them.
I'm still convinced Square will put Lightning in it, she advertises the PS3 a lot.

Would be funny to see Snake and Sonic in this too.

Haha are you serious? Last time I heard about those platformers, it was Ratchet & Clank and Jack & Daxter. And I think the first duo is exclusive to Xbox?

Ratchet & Clank is still the name of that series but Jak & Daxter just became "Jak".

Either way they're both still Sony exclusive franchises and Ratchet was also in Modnation Racers.
