I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to PC upgrading but I have decided i'd like to upgrade my HD in my MacBook pro.

I upgraded my ram from 4 to 8gb last summer and now want to upgrade my hard drive from 250 to 500-750.

Does anyone would a cheap website to get parts? I need a sata II 2.5 drive and looking to pay £70-80 tops. My currently one runes at 5400 RPM... i'll probably just keep that the same. I heard that if you go 7200 it can cause problems.

Would something like this be good?

What problems would you have if you were to upgrade to a 7200 RPM HDD? Other then a significant increase in power consumption (which you may not want if you use it on battery on a regular basis, I can understand that), I don't see what the problem could be, it's just a faster HDD.

The one you posted seems good enough. Never had any bad experience with WD HDDs.

Since I don't live in the UK, I wouldn't know of a good website from where to order spare parts though. I only know of French websites but you would have to pay significantly more in delivery fee.

I have heard things like battery life decrease, significant noise increase, vibrations etc.

But i'm not sure yet, 'm reading conflicting comments online. My limit for this machine is 1TB but if I could get a 500-750 7200 RPM drive around £70 that would be good.

Ah yes vibrations, that's true. Didn't think of that.

I guess you could get a 7200 RPM HDD that's very quiet and don't vibrate too much, but I'm ready to bet these wouldn't come cheap.

Yeah, very good. Only point to note though, is that samsung spinpoints can be a little noisy on startup, but they soon settle down. They make a whhooooop noise on startup.

You can buy a sata 2 3.5 HD and the HD box. That would be cheaper. try amzon.
