The time has come...the end of what could be one of the greatest trilogies is coming this Friday:

The film:

The Dark Knight Rises is a 2012 superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan, who co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan Nolan and the story with David S. Goyer. Based on the DC Comics character Batman, the film is the third installment in Nolan's Batman film series, and is a sequel to Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008). The Dark Knight Rises is intended to be the conclusion of the series. Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman reprise their roles from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The film takes place eight years after the events of The Dark Knight and introduces the characters of Selina Kyle and Bane—portrayed by Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy, respectively.

The cast:

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne / Batman:A billionaire socialite dedicated to protecting Gotham City from the criminal underworld.
Tom Hardy as Bane: A terrorist leader intent on destroying Gotham City.
Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle: Selina Kyle is a cat burglar described as "an associate" of Bane
Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth: Bruce's trusted butler and confidant.
Gary Oldman as James Gordon: Commissioner of the Gotham City Police Department, and one of the city's few honest police officers.
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox: Fox runs Wayne Enterprises on behalf of Bruce Wayne and serves as his armorer, providing him with high-tech equipment.
Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate: A member of the Wayne Enterprises executive board who encourages a still-grieving Bruce Wayne to rejoin with society and continue his father's philanthropic works.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake: Blake is a young police officer whose instincts lead him to believe that there is trouble on the horizon.

I cannot wait, and hopefully it will live up to the hype and the rest of the series.

I myself am off to the IMAX on Friday, but I have also been sent tickets to a regional screening on Wednesday night which I am sorely tempted to attend

Going to see it at the midnight release with some friends! Smilie I remember sitting in the theater at the end of the second movie thinking to myself, "How the heck are they ever going to wrap this up?" Can't wait to find out!

I think this video is relevant! (Everybody has probably already seen it though.)

When I read this, all I can think of is Sarah from Team America: World Police; "I sense Gary is in great danger". Seems like a skill that might come in handy for the Batman.

I can't say I'm interested in this, personally. I didn't like Batman Begins or The Dark Knight, so I doubt this will be any different.

I preferred Tim Burtons take on Batman. Even then though, I'm still not a massive fan, I just think they're better.

Here be spoilers of my first impressions. Be warned...this is a film you should see for yourselves. I'm not going to give away any major spoilers at this point, but I know some people will want to see it without even a vague spoiler.

You have been warned

It's saddening to hear about the Colorado shooting during a screening of this, which left 12 dead and many others injured. I would talk more in depth about the film, but this news pretty much dominates

The Daily Mail have already tried to link it with the The Dark Knight Returns storyline

WAS DEADLY SHOOTING INSPIRED BY BATMAN COMIC BOOK?
The Dark Knight cinema massacre may have been inspired by a Batman comic book strip, it emerged on Friday.
The bloodbath is a chilling copycat of a 25-year-old Batman comic strip which features a deranged gunman opening fire in a cinema.
In the second issue of The Dark Knight Returns, written by Frank Miller - the creative mind behind Sin City and 300 - gunman Arnold Crimp opens fire in a pornographic theatre, killing three people, after listening to Led Zepplin's classic track 'Stairway to Heaven.'
Text from the page reads: 'Arnold Crimp fingers the cold steel thing in his pocket and stares at the movie marquee and does not throw up.
'He thinks about Led Zeppelin and how they are trying to kill him.
'He had not known about Led Zeppelin until Father Don on TV had explained it last night.
'Father Don said that Led Zeppelin hid a prayer to Satan in their song Stairway to Heaven.
'They hid it very well. They recorded it backwards.
'Arnold Crimp took the album from the record store where he worked until they fired him this afternoon and transferred Stairway to Heaven to tape.
'Then he played the tape backwards. He played it forty-seven times until he was absolutely certain that Father Don was right.'
Crimp then walks into a cinema, which is screening a pornographic film called My Sweet Satan, and opens fire.
Holmes motives behind the massacre are unknown, but if he was a fan of the Batman comics, then he may well have read the issue featuring Crimp's killing-spree.
The comic itself is still in print, and on Friday it was available in several Waterstones' book shops, priced £12.99.

Whilst some earlier reports linked the gunman to Bane (because he wore a gas mask...ignoring the fact that he used gas in the attack and it shielded himself)

I read on one website that the gunman had died his hair red and claimed to be 'the Joker'. This was the most sickening news I have ever woken up to. I spent a year abroad in Boulder, Colorado which is no more than a half hour away from Denver (and Aurora, the suburb where this happened). It was surreal enough knowing this, and having to go on Facebook and check that nobody I knew was involved. I just got back from work and checked again only to notice that somebody from my creative writing class out there was present. I don't remember much about him but I remember he was a huge Zelda fan, so our type of people. It is crazy to think that this has happened.

Really unfortunate. Colorado has had enough to deal with lately with the wildfires, let alone this tragedy. It's just sad that there are people like that in the world.

Still looking forward to seeing the film myself tonight.

It's very sad to hear about the shootings, indeed. I always wonder what drives people to do such things.

I'll be going to see this now, since my friends invited me to go and see it with them next Saturday. I would have much rather seen the new Spider-Man film, but I'm fine to watch this if that's what they want to see. Maybe I'll like it more than the other two. If it has similarities, then probably not.

I really had a hard time following the previous two and probably found them dull because of that. Maybe I'm just dumb though...

Watched this today and loved it. As a rule I'm not a fan of superhero stuff, but this Batman trilogy is about the only superhero flick I have been interested in. Rises was awesome and there definitely was some emotional stuff going on. Catwoman was walking sex.
