As many of you are no doubt aware Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance was released last week in Europe, and it's out very soon in North America! And some of us noticed that C3 was very overdue for a proper Kingdom Hearts thread - here it is!

Kingdom Hearts started about 10 years ago as what many assumed would be a standalone game, it has grown into a complex series expanding that one game's zany storyline about Disney and the magical powers of hearts and friendship.

The franchise is known for having a relatively consistent quality compared to most RPGs, and while its cheesy themes and overcomplex plot aren't for everyone; the gameplay continues to be very fun and playable for original fans. The plot is also quite enjoyable to talk about and will probably (hopefully?) be something this thread is used for often!

So far the game has 7 titles scattered across a variety of platforms, some more important than others but all are pretty good for the most part, all also make some kind of important contribution to the plot. Listed below in order of chronology for convenience:

- Birth by Sleep (PSP - 2010)
- Kingdom Hearts (PS2 - 2002)
- Chain of Memories (GBA/PS2 - 2004/2007)
- 358/2 Days (DS - 2009)
- Kingdom Hearts II (PS2 - 2006)
- coded (Mobile/DS - 2008/2011)
- 3D: Dream Drop Distance (3DS - 2012)
- Kingdom Hearts III (?)

HD Collections
- Kingdom Hearts I.5 HD ReMIX (PS3 - 2013/TBA)

For those of you interested in getting into the series, the weaker and less important entries are in italics! While still good games they may not be a good place to start.

So get discussing and have fun!
Obviously the latest and imo one of the best in the series (Dream Drop Distance) will be the centre of discussion for a little while, and because of it I've become really excited for the inevitable Kingdom Hearts III which I really hope is fully revealed soon!

Have no epic banner-making skills, but stars to you for making the thread. Smilie

Less important maybe, but in no way is Re:Coded one of the weakest, I'd place it above the original personally. Great game, just sharing my two cents on that. Smilie

Am now entering major spoiler territory with DDD since I've completed it. Firstly, holy jumping jack jesus at

That will be my Avatar in a few years for certain. Smilie
Next, I'm assuming that at the end, Sora is

Agreed, I loved Re:Coded quite a lot and it's one of my fav entries in the series but I have to admit it's very rehashy and not really the best showcase of what the series has to offer. Common consensus is that it's quite weak.
Imo though Days is easily the weakest.

spoilers everywhere

And here's my response to all those thoughts:

As you can see I have a lot on my mind about KH Smilie

oh and whats the deal with vanities? like in kingdom hearts 1, why was Riku wearing his clothes? and

First of all welcome to C3! Second of all please don't double post (post twice in a row), if you want to say something else then edit your previous post Smilie Thanks!

Now on topic:

Does that even make sense? I'm trying to make sense of this still myself.

I'm currently having a bit of a KH marathon in my excitement for KHIII.. which is probably a long ways off but still. I've downloaded some Final Mixes and Re:CoM (serves Square right for not localising them) and have been having a lot of fun with those Smilie

It sounds like there will be one more game before KHIII (sigh) Nomura said he wants it to be 'something small', most rumours suggest an iOS game or an HD Collection.
Atm I'd prefer an HD Collection, I just want development to focus on KHIII now plEASE.

I'd also vote for an HD collection, consisting of the Final Mix versions of 1 and 2 together with Re:CoM (and a Birth By Sleep remastering if they're feeling generous). I'd pay shitloads for that.

Quite honestly though, I'd like to see this scenario play out (spoilers for DDD's ending);

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX Coming to PS3 in 2013

http://www.square-enix.co.jp/kingdom/khhd/

Contains:

- Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix HD
- Kingdom Hearts: ReChain of Memories HD
- Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days cut-scenes remastered in HD in theatre mode

Bizarrely, no KH2 HD or Birth By Sleep... Will be in a future second package?

KH PC social game announced, too.

Geez are you kidding? This is both pretty cool and pretty weak, I can't believe there will be no KHII FM included.. especially since it probably means they'll just make another collection for it.

Milking much?
As long as we get KHIII soon, it's not that bad, but.. I just don't see why this doesn't include KHII.

No Wii U? I r disappoint. Smilie

Just updated the first post after Az' updated it with a spiffy banner! Now added an HD Collections section with I.5 on it, since inevitably II.5 will be there too.

Also, there are rumours that KHI.5 will come to WiiU, it'd be great if so but I'm not holding my breath.

It makes too much sense for Square to do a PS3/WiiU version, the fanbase is already split across Nintendo and Sony machines, and I can't imagine that the eventual HK3 would make much profit being stuck only on one system. :/
