I had to make a decision, on whether to buy an MP3 player (256mb) or a Mini Disc recorder/player.

I chose the latter, as Mini Discs were unfairly overlooked due to the timing that they were released. A lot of my friends had MP3 players but I plumped for the Mini disc player, because:

1. Hardly anyone has one.
2. The mini discs look cool and come in different (and pretty) colours)
3. Battery time is just as good as any MP3 (mine is 42 hours)
4. Records onto Mini Disc.

What do you think? I am altogether pleased with it, but I can't help wondering whether I should have gone for the slightly newer MP3 player.

Ah and you can't slate mini disc players for having crap battery time like PSP, because 42 hours is hardly crap.

Yeah mini disks are cool with the new disks that can hold 1GB

i cant really see a real reason to go for a mini disk player over an mp3... the mp3 players are far more practical, and you carry everything in one unit.

On an I-pod yep, but they are a bit pricey for me.

My mini disc player cost

It be better to go for a mini disk plyer over a 256MB mp3 player but if its between HDD MP3 player then id go for that.

Yeah. HD MP3 player is the only real choice out there, unless you're just a very casual listener and can do with 256mb. I'm just waiting for MD to die, tbh. I can't see that it has any reason for being in the market... Smilie

1. Hardly anyone has one.

Yeah and buying an inneficient product is cool as long as noone else has one.

2. The mini discs look cool and come in different (and pretty) colours)

The muvo slim comes in a variety of colours, red, black, pink, blue, silver.

3. Battery time is just as good as any MP3 (mine is 42 hours)

Just as good as any mp3 player, but not better, not to make it worth losing out on all the other mp3 benefits.

4. Records onto Mini Disc.

Mp3 players record onto mp3, and I can imagine a darn sight faster than music goes onto a disk.

Good Mp3 players are FAR smaller than any minidisc players, mainly because minidisc players have to be at least the same size of the disc.

Also you can now buy Mp3 players that charge from USB, and music travveling through USB goes a lot faster than music being written to a disc.

Also id imagine after a while of putting music and taking it off of a disc eventually the disc will lose quality/wear out.

THere really is no reason to buy a minidisc over an Mp3.

All I can say in my defence is that Mini Discs are basically smaller versions of GameCube discs with a plastic case protecting them, therefore the cannot wear out.

Other than that RedKing pretty much silenced me Smilie

My minidisc is fantastic!

My personal order:

Ipod/Muvo
Hi-MD
mini ipod
Minidisc (normal)
256mb mp3player

See no Wiivil
Hear no Wiivil
Speak no Wiivil

Other than that RedKing pretty much silenced me

See, I told you my prescence at C3 is beneficial.

I reccomend the Creative Muvo Slim 256.

I also reccomend the company Creative for your one stop mp3 player shop, so far creative are by far the best company for mp3 players of all shapes and sizes.

I'm just about to get rid of my minidisc in favour of an ogg-vorbis player.

Whatever you do, don't use stock earphones. Buy some good ones, to get the sound quality benifit.

I bought a protable CD player for my car, it can play burned mp3 discs, came with a cigarette lighter adapter and acassette adapter. It cost me $20.

That, my friends, is an sudio solution!

Well of course theres no comparason - MP3 players are a lot better; but I've just got a Mini Disc - I can't afford an MP3.

I'm rather digging theCreative Zen Micro at the moment.

MP3 IPOD. Get a 60gig one of them that will beat anything the 60gig versin also stores pics.

and only costs slightly more than $500....

iPod.
