I've been playing the N64 version today and I've got really hyped for the DS Version. I was just wondering what everyone's hopes for this are?

And also what DS functions it could take advantage of.

Here are my ideas that take advantage of the DS's unique uses. I won't state the obvious with multiplayer functions everyone is already talking about.

Track Editor

The touch screen would make that very easy to use, and your courses could be shared with others in the area ect.

Item Release through Microphone

As in being able to just shout "fire!" to release the weapon that you have.

Items:

Short Cut Activator

Considering that one screen will show you the map, I'd like to see an item available that activates a small sneaky shortcut that could be used to cut through a segment of the circuit. You'd be able to tell when it's open and closed, meaning you could carefully time your runs in order to make it through the gap and manage to steal a win.

Not something for every race of course, considering that would take away the challenge.

Yellow Shell

This is a very wild idea, that probably never will happen. But it would be cool if when you fire this shell, the map screen turns into 3rd Person View in order to control the yellow shell so you can home in on a certain individual, while the computer momentarily takes over your kart for a few seconds.

Two Kart Items

Again, something that won't happen, but I'd like to see items available that required to players to work together to eliminate another kart. Like a rope that two karts hold across each other stretching out onto the entire road forcing people behind to either find another route or go face first into their trap.

Fire Trails

Basically the mushroom boost only it leaves a hazardous trail of fire that other karters have to avoid either by hopping over it or swerving out the way.

Anyone got other ideas 'n stuff to add? Smilie

Woa, some superb ideas! Expanding a bit on the track editor - i hope that some form of pc -> game -> pc compatibility would be on offer so tracks can be shared over the net, in forums etc.

Yeah... It's be like Trackmania, but popular, and not as French.

And MKDS mods. I can feel a homebrew Excitebike DS coming on. Smilie

I agree. those sound like some good ideas; I should reccomend you to nintendo.

I'm never looking back; cause time doesn't wait for me, I go my own way.

I hope it's more like Mario Kart Super Circuit on the GBA and less like Double Dash, which I thought was pretty average.

Cubed3 Member

Yeah if its like Super circuit it will be perfection that game ruled. A track editor would be really cool

I'm hoping for a cross between the originality and fun of Super Mario Kart on the SNES between the more stratagy/items focused Double Dash on the Cube.

Then again, as long as it's Mario Kart I'm happy.

I like the yellow shell idea. The same sdistic pleasure that you get from slowly homing in a slayer missile on your hapless ignorant target then cackling manaically to yourself as you watch the realisation dawn on their face as they vainly attempt to shoot it out of the air. On perfect dark you understand not real life. Honest.

BTW has anyone noticed that you always notice yourself (too late) in other peoples screens just before they gun you down. Its like we have a sixth sense that tells us when were in danger.

Also who else wants to see the return of the hop?

errr...

Great ideas Sound.

And indeed KingDom - bring back the hop Smilie

Promising though, because this is more of an old school looking MK, pretty much just MK64 - which I'm sure has the hop.

well early e3 foootage of it shows that it has the hop. Mario Kart 64 was shit imo Super circuit and the original are the best : P

Yeah! it would be awsome, to play against someone, with out paying.

I especially like your ideas for new items, and what about an item that would make you wider so people can't easily get past you but it would also make it more difficult to take turns..adding a bit of strategy to it?

Cubed3 Member

I like the short cut idea and the unlikely (why!? nintendo why?!) double kart attacks Smilie
I though MK64 was ok, MKDD was better, super circuit lasted ages. Hopefully a mix of all 3 will be done (but no double racing).

I was thinking of something like the yellow shell idea. You could use the D-pad to carry on racing in the top screen and use the stylus on the bottom screen which is used to track or target where you point Smilie would be hard to keep track of the two but seeing as aiming as exactly where you want would balance it out.

I take it there aren't any PC games which can use 2 monitors?

I want coins brought back into it or at least have the option

"FIRE!!!!"

...

*bang!*

"YES!"

Excellent idea.

I think a weapon in which you touch the screen to aim would be cool, like a bullet bill or something.

But please Nintendo, make it more like MKSmilieC than MK:64...

and YES. Coins must return.

It would be cool to build classic tracks if a track editor was included

XBL Gamertag: James2t3

8 player single cart multiplayer on every SNES/N64 and DS track!

Or have a simple course editor andplay them ourself. Even if itlimits youto just 90 and 45 degree angles...it would extend thelifespan and multiplayer hugely!

I really hope they add a trackeditor, that was awsome to play around with in F-Zero X DD extension disk(I didn't have it, but my friend had... but there where some buttons that we never figured out what they did Smilie).

Cubed3 Member

I hope they take the second screen further, with the select button dedicated to changing the lower screen display. Hopefully things like:
rear view mirror
item tracker
will be available in addition to the whole map view(s)

I'm really really hoping for a complex, detailed track editor.

Online and 8 player are crucial.

Whoa this thread was fairly old...

Anyway, I doubt that there will be a track editor. If you REALLY want one, bug the piss out of Nintendo.

Who are we? We are the Knights who say..... "Wii"!
Cubed3 Member

hmmm dont think a rear view mirrir woud be posible remember only one screen can do a lot of 3D at any one time but if they could get it in it would be a nice feature

XBL Gamertag: James2t3
Cubed3 Member

It would probably feel quite confusing to have two seperate screens showing full 3D anyway.
